Thirty-Two: Perilous Fall {Bonus Chapter}
Dusken shivered as the waves of water massively came into his location. No, they didn't come at him, but instead, they were pulled at his area by the rock he sat on.
'What's happening?' He questioned himself inwardly as the water level of the sea visibly shrunk. They were all being absorbed by the rock he was on.
The sea roared as they crashed on the rock, send water splashing in all directions, wetting Dusken in the process.
There was even a time when he was almost thrown off the rock due to the seas angry waves.
Soon, the entire surroundings was dried of water and the sea vanished without a trace, all taken by this seemingly small rock he sat on.
However, when he stared down, dread crept up his heart, making his eyes widen from the sight below.
He was not on a small rock but instead on a tall, no, very tall, slim boulder. From this height, if he fell, what awaited him was a gruesome end without doubt.
Gulping while glancing below, Dusken knew that he would eventually have to come down.
However, he needed something to help him, otherwise, death was an inevitable circumstance, so he summoned his soul script to checked the information of his newly attained material cards.
Material Cards: [Dark Sword], [Lunar's gloves] and [Night Stone].
Material Card Name: Dark Sword
Card rank: Awakened
Card level: 1
Card description: [A blade gifted to you by the god of darkness.]
Card enchantments: [Flash of shadow]
Enchantment Description: [The sword is as light as a feather to its wielder but extremely heavy to his opponents, for it is as swift as a shadow.]
This was the first time Dusken truly read the enchantment of his longsword as he had been interrupted previously. Not bothering to ponder much on it, he decided to check the rest.
Material Card Name: Lunar's gloves
Card rank: Awakened
Card level: 1
Card description: [In the raging blizzard, Lunar walked calmly, manipulating the snow to his wish. However, finding a dying man who couldn't move and with frozen hands, he gave him a glove, passing on one of his legacies.]
'What the fuck? What the actual fuck?' Dusken wrinkled his nose in pure disappointment.
Scrolling down to read the enchantments, he felt like throwing the card away.
Card Enchantments: [Unbothered]
Enchantment description: [When a person wears this glove, nothing from outside can penetrate it and nothing from within can harm anything outside.]
Dusken's eyes had a chilling light to them, cold ruthlessness rising from their depths, coated with unconcealed rage.
He clenched his fists and decided to check the last material card to see what it could do. Inhaling sharply to stabilise his emotions, he instructed the screen.
Material Card Name: Night Stone
Card rank: Awakened
Card level: 1
Card description: [In the echoes of the white depth, there is only one darkness. The eternal night stone gave birth to a revolution.]
'Another poem with no significant information. I bet this is just another useless material card.' Dusken rolled his eyes inwardly as he scrolled.
Card Enchantments: [Dwelling Night]
Enchantment Description: [This stone absorbs darkness at night and can release them in daylight.]
'Hmm, this seems useful. My ability has this fatal flaw of needing darkness, but still… this won't be useful for coming down.' Gazing down from such a height, his stare penetrated the darkness, making him see the small beings crawling around on the ground.
He suspected that they were mostly creatures living in the sea or underground. He dismissed his soul script while letting out a disappointed sigh.
However, a thought suddenly hit him hard, causing him to immediately summon his spell card. Staring at the designs on it, he inhaled deeply.
The breeze of the night carried with it a refreshing after-effect. It was cool to his skin and his clothes gently swayed under its flow.
Spell card activation: Nightfall Whisper.
The spell card slowly shifted as the darkness in the area were pulled while his shadow rose and transformed into an obsidian shield.
Whispers were resounding in the area and when he decided to decipher them an obstruction met him, so he decided to give up for now.
He glanced at the shield. Its outward appearance was striking and soft to the touch.
'No difference.' Dusken had initially thought that in darkness, there would be a change. Especially as it wasn't only his shadow who formed it, but also darkness.
After some time of inspection, he shockingly found out that he could control its shape and this had been impossible during the day.
'Doesn't this mean…' Dusken's thought trailed off as he changed the shape of the shield, making it slowly cover him like an egg.
Before it covered him completely, Dusken commanded the kneeling Ebon, making it blend with his shadow.
Dusken was completely encased in the shield and the air was hot - suffocating even. However, he ran his fingers through his hair, not ready for what would happen next.
Tilting his balance slightly, the shield suddenly moved, rolling like a ball, at first slow, but then picked up speed.
It wasn't long before it rolled off the rock and fell with a powerful momentum. Tearing the winds apart as it fell.
'I hope this works, I hope this works, I hope this works.' Dusken chanted within the shield as cold sweat ran down his forehead.
He bit his lips as it took all of him to make the shield not come apart. This was his first time changing the shape of the shield after all, and it took all his concentration.
Naturally, he wouldn't have taken the risk and practised first, but there was no time for that in this inheritance.
The shield was gradually opening in the middle of the air, and it was rolling in the winds, making Dusken have to concentrate not to fall and also keep the shield in its egg shape.
Suddenly, a boom resounded, sending tremors through Dusken's body, rupturing his internal organs and making him spit out blood.
The shield had landed and it came undone, transforming back into a spellcard.
However, there were visible cracks on it, meaning that it unusable for a some time and have to recover itself.
"I… survived" Dusken blurted out through gritted teeth. His vision was blurry while gazing at the peak of the tall rock where he had fallen from.
The night breeze caressed Dusken's skin as a cold sensation ran through his spin. The area had a muddy spell as the aftershock of his landing subtly vibrated his body.
Even in his immobilized state, he controlled the darkness to shroud him so that creatures in the area wouldn't notice his presence.
'This won't work.' He shook his head internally. The resounding boom of his fall would surely attract the creatures in the area, no matter what.
Dusken dismissed his spell card, glancing at the endless expanse of the night sky, drowsiness was slowly trying to overcome his senses, but he knew that once he slept, waking up would only be a dream.
'I have to move fast before someone else gets this inheritance.' Dusken thought while struggling to move.
As if to mock and laugh at him, the voice from before once again boomed throughout the entire inheritance.
"PHASE ONE OF THE INHERITANCE HAS BEEN PASSED. PHASE TWO BEGINNING. THERE ARE ONLY FOUR HOURS LEFT TILL YOUR DEATHS."
