7 a.m. the next morning.

Chris woke up, stretched, and got ready for the day. He washed up and made breakfast for his Pokémon along the way.

When he returned to the classroom the previous night, the class meeting had already ended. Since he was absent, Xavier was successfully elected as the class leader. Chris was also informed that by 8:00 the next morning, he needed to head to the Breeder House at Dragon University to pick up a Pokémon egg.

Just as Amy had mentioned, the military training for the breeding department involved receiving a Pokémon egg as part of the task.

Later, back at the dormitory, Chris turned on his handheld console and began his quest through Granite Cave. Now, however, he had an additional goal: capturing a Nosepass.

Catching a Nosepass in Granite Cave was crucial for Chris to fulfill his promise to Professor Theodore, who expected him to personally deliver one!

The odds of encountering Nosepass were low—only slightly higher than Ralts—but after three hours of searching that night, Chris managed to catch twelve. With a week until the delivery deadline, he still had plenty of time.

During those three hours, Chris also kept track of what items the Pokémon in Granite Cave were holding.

Zubat didn't drop anything.

Abra had a 5% chance of holding a "Twisted Spoon."

Geodude had a 5% chance of holding an "Everstone."

Makuhita had a 5% chance of holding a "Black Belt."

Both Onix and Aron had a 5% chance of holding a "Hard Stone."

Sableye had a 5% chance of holding a "Wide Lens."

Croagunk had a 5% chance of holding an "Iron Ball."

Nosepass had a 5% chance of holding either a "Magnet" or a "Hard Stone."

Overall, Granite Cave was rich in items, especially compared to the many berries found on Route 110. The Pokémon living underground often held valuable items that boosted the power of their moves.

After three hours, Chris managed to snag three Hard Stones and one Everstone.

It wasn't a huge haul, but each item was worth a lot.

The three Hard Stones increased the power of Rock-type moves by 14%, 17%, and 19%. They sold for 70,000, 85,000, and 95,000 Pokédollars, respectively. As a rare and functional item, the price of an Everstone was fixed at 250,000 Pokédollars with no room for negotiation.

In total, Chris had earned 500,000 Pokédollars in just three hours. If he worked hard for twelve hours a day, that would net him two million Pokédollars daily.

Sixty million in a month.

Switching from Route 110 to Granite Cave had doubled his income once again.

"Making money is way too easy," Chris thought to himself with a grin.

In just a few minutes, he had earned more than he would in years in his previous life. The difference was staggering.

Chris suddenly felt like a nouveau riche.

It wasn't that he wanted to spend money recklessly, but the sheer amount felt overwhelming!

To celebrate, he treated himself to a 1,000 Pokédollar supper.

So far, Chris hadn't found any treasure-tier Pokémon items, which left him wondering if it was even possible. After all, the game's drop limit for rare items was capped at 20%.

Chris ate the leftovers from last night's supper for breakfast. After putting away his Pokémon, he headed out to the breeding hut at Dragon University.

As he passed the main road on campus, he noticed a group of students in camouflage uniforms marching by—they were all freshmen from the combat department.

"Chris!"

Hearing his name called, Chris quickly turned toward the voice and spotted Amy waving at him with her hat, running over to meet him. At the same time, no fewer than three male classmates followed her, while more than ten female classmates had their eyes on Chris.

Whenever two good-looking people were together, it was bound to attract attention.

"Where are you off to?" Chris asked.

"We're headed to Trial Island. The military training content hasn't changed—it's still a wild adventure," Amy grumbled. "We leave at 7:30 in the morning and won't be back until 5:00 in the afternoon."

Trial Island, also known as Experiment Island, was a nearby island managed by Dragon University. It was specifically used to house various Pokémon, making it convenient to observe their behavior while also providing a place for students to sharpen their combat skills.

A win-win situation.

Dragon University had as many as seven Trial Islands, though only three were accessible to students. The remaining four were reserved for professors, such as Professor Theodore, who had his own Trial Island focused on Electric-type Pokémon.

"That's great," Chris remarked with a smile. For students in the combat department, who often struggled to find good places to train, Trial Island was the perfect place to level up.

"Great, huh? In this weather, no matter how much sunscreen I use, I'm going to get sunburned," Amy groaned, rolling her eyes. "Don't laugh! You're not getting off the hook either."

Chris shrugged. Their breeding department was also scheduled to visit Trial Island, but it wouldn't be for a few days, and only after their Pokémon eggs had hatched.

"By the way, sign-ups for the new military training competition have started. Didn't you say you wanted to join in? Make sure you register!" Amy added. "But you'd better hope you don't end up facing me, or I'll show you what a real bow looks like! What a rising star in the battle department is!"

Amy clenched her fists, clearly fired up. Since their last encounter at the West Lake Arena, she had imagined Chris as her rival, determined to challenge him someday.

To be my first target as the future battle queen, Chris, you should feel honored!

"Alright, rising star, but if you don't hurry, you might miss the boat to Trial Island tomorrow," Chris said, pointing to the military training team that was disappearing in the distance.

When Amy turned around, the long line of trainees was already out of sight.

"Ah! Wait for me!" Amy shouted as she dashed off, calling back to Chris, "I'll give big baby a hug when I get back ~~~"

A group of senior students nearby glanced at Chris, raising their eyebrows.

Big… baby?

Is that really what I think it means?

Tsk tsk, these new students are something else.

Chris sighed, turning silently to continue on his way to the breeding hut. The registration point for the military training competition was along the way, so he figured he might as well sign up.
