700 power stones =1 bonus chapter

Five minutes passed quickly, and the referee confirmed that both sides were ready before beginning to read the rules of the match.

"This is the Dragon University freshman military training competition audition. Trainer Chris will face off against Trainer Tyson. Each side is allowed only one Pokémon. The battle ends when one Pokémon loses the ability to fight!"

"Now, please release your Pokémon at the same time!"

Chris and Tyson locked eyes, focusing intently on each other. In unison, they grabbed their Poké Balls from their belts and threw them into the air.

With a flash of silver light, two Pokémon appeared.

Tyson sent out Croagunk, a purple, upright-walking frog with a silly expression. Fans of the anime would remember how its Poison Jab often left Brock paralyzed and dragged away.

Chris chose Makuhita. He figured that since this was just an audition, he didn't need to use one of his main team members.

"Nice! I've got the advantage!" Tyson pumped his fist excitedly as he saw his opponent.

Croagunk is a Poison-type, while Makuhita is a Fighting-type. Although Poison-type moves don't deal double damage to Fighting-types, Poison-types are resistant to Fighting-type moves, which gave Tyson the upper hand from the start.

But before Tyson could celebrate, a murmur spread through the audience.

"Wait a minute!" someone shouted. "Red gloves, red cheeks, a red bib—Chris's Makuhita is a Shiny Pokémon!"

More people began to notice the difference, and soon all eyes were on Chris's rare Makuhita.

Amy, watching from the crowd, widened her eyes in disbelief.

"First a Shiny Ralts, and now a Shiny Makuhita? How does this guy have such insane luck?"

Shiny Pokémon, whether strong or weak, always attracted attention. It was like spotting a plaid shirt in a sea of uniforms—it stood out regardless of the quality.

Even Tyson couldn't help but stare at the Shiny Makuhita in awe.

Its vivid red gloves, its striking red cheeks, and those massive fists—it looked like it could pack a serious punch! But he quickly snapped out of it, reminding himself that he was rooting for Tyson, not his rival.

"Hmph, so what if it's Shiny? Shiny doesn't mean strong! Just watch, I'll crush it!"

The referee confirmed that both trainers were ready, raising the flag before declaring, "Battle begin!"

"Croagunk, use Poison Sting!"

"Makuhita, use Fake Out!" Chris and Tyson gave their commands at the same time.

Croagunk opened its mouth, shooting out a spray of poisonous barbs toward Makuhita. Poison-types often aim to weaken opponents by inflicting a poisoned status, making them a nuisance even in the wild, where trainers generally avoided them.

The Poison Sting hit Makuhita, but despite the attack, its color remained unchanged, showing that it had not been poisoned. Makuhita had taken the hit but was still in perfect condition.

"You're lucky." Tyson sneered as he realized the Poison Sting hadn't worked as intended. Without missing a beat, he gave a new command, "Dodge and use Karate Chop!"

Makuhita charged at Croagunk, raising its hand for a slap that looked more like a punch. However, Croagunk, being faster, swiftly dodged and pulled back its right hand, a faint silver glow gathering as it prepared to counterattack. The target was clear—Makuhita's head, aiming for a critical hit.

*Smack!*

In an instant, Makuhita, who had appeared slow moments ago, suddenly moved as if propelled by rocket thrusters. Just a second ago, its red fist was a meter away from Croagunk, but in a blink, it appeared right in Croagunk's face.

Croagunk, caught off guard by Makuhita's burst of speed, took a direct hit from the *Fake Out*. The blow sent Croagunk flying through the air, spinning like a top before crashing to the ground several meters away.

*Thud...*

Croagunk slid across the battlefield, coming to a halt two meters from where it had landed.

"What... just happened?" Tyson stared in disbelief. A moment ago, Croagunk had easily dodged the attack—how had Makuhita suddenly closed the gap so fast?

He couldn't wrap his head around it.

If not for the advice Chris had received from the Breeder who owned the vine tree, he wouldn't have thought to teach Makuhita a unique version of *Quick Attack*. Though technically a *Quick Attack*, it was more of a combination of *Force Palm* and *Quick Attack*. The strategy was to unleash a sudden burst of speed at close range, catching the opponent off guard and disrupting their timing.

It was similar to how Frogadier used to combine *Cut* and *Quick Attack* for rapid strikes.

And Tyson thought Chris was lucky? No, it was Tyson who was lucky.

Makuhita's ability was *Guts*!

With *Guts*, when Makuhita is affected by a status condition, its attack power increases by 50%. So, even though it had resisted the poison earlier, Makuhita's attack power was now boosted. That *Fake Out* was going to be devastating either way.

Croagunk was now reeling from the blow, completely stunned.

"Makuhita, finish it! Use Arm Thrust!" Chris commanded confidently.

"Maku~~!" Makuhita grinned, its expression friendly yet terrifying in Croagunk's dazed eyes. Despite Tyson's desperate commands, Croagunk couldn't move a muscle. It was as if the frog's body was frozen in fear.

Makuhita strode up to the immobilized Croagunk. Its red gloves turned into blurs as they rained down punches like a relentless storm.

Within five seconds, the barrage was over. Croagunk lay motionless on the ground.

"The battle is over! Croagunk is unable to fight. The winner is Makuhita, and the victor is Trainer Chris!" the referee announced, raising the flag to signal the end.
