Chereads / Man of Soul / Chapter 26 - The Trial Of Glen

Chapter 26 - The Trial Of Glen

Inside a dark room, Glen was sitting on a chair. He was bound by metal chains and handcuffs. He looked down on his thigh.

Knock! Knock! The door opened. Rays of light hit him for a moment. As the door was closed, the room was again filled with darkness.

A figure came near him and whispered in his ear, "Time for case discussion. Don't blank out here. It's your last chance. Being a judge, I shouldn't say this, but I want you to win. These are the last words you'll hear from me as a friend."

The masculine voice ended. The sound of footsteps was heard as the man went away.

Lights turned on. The room was now completely visible. It was a courtroom, not too big and flashy, like a modern trial room. Only a few officials were present in the room.

They circled him. Their faces were covered with bulletproof curtains and their bodies with tables.

Each curtain had a number weaved with it. The man who just whispered in his ear was behind curtain 6, the last curtain.

1 said, "Glen, you are guilty of trying to cross 'The Wall of Heavens'. Do you even know how big of a crime it is?"

Glen said nothing and made a slight grin.

2, offended by his grin, added, "Doing such a crime and still smiling, how shameless can you be?"

3 declared the potential charges, "For this crime, you will be sent to lifetime prison on Central Jail - B."

6 interrupted, "Until, of course, you manage to prove your innocence. But looking at the situation, I doubt you can."

4 shouted, "Interrupting other's words, how insolent!"

6 replied, "Infighting of a judge is not legal unless you want a death penalty. Don't yell at me or any other judge. For the first offence, you are to leave this court."

4 said in a weak voice, "But-."

4 didn't utter any more words. 3 didn't speak for him. So, he stood up and left the courtroom.

Glen said, "What a screwed-up court. I thought interrupting was not allowed."

5 said, "While interrupting is unethical, it's not written anywhere that it is illegal. No more questions from your side."

"What a fucked up law is this? Not that I have a problem."

1 said, "These laws apply to anyone connected to Interpol in any way. Now, without any interruption, what do you have to say for your innocence?"

"I've got nothing to say for my innocence. However, I do have an offer from my side. It'll sure be beneficial for Interpol."

6 said, "State your offer."

"I know two guys who are good enough to fill the void of 1st division. I can make them join Interpol. You see, they have no interest in Interpol but I can trigger the devotion in them."

"And how much time do you need for it? The quicker you do it, the better chances are for us to accept your offer."

"7 days."

The judges discussed among themselves for a minute. After the discussion was over, 1 said, "We discussed your offer and have come to a conclusion. We grant you 7 days to complete what you promised.

If you fail, you will be immediately sent to prison and tortured twice the amount of what you would have been if only you didn't make this offer. If you succeed, your charges will be cleared.

Till then, a machine will be implanted in your heart. Any act against the agreement and the law and it will pierce through your heart and blast."

"Fine by me."

"And your time starts," he looked at his wristwatch and said, "Now."

The tile below his chair flipped. After a minute, he was sitting on a toilet seat.

"What a weird system! Anyway, I did promise to get them in, but I don't know if I can pull it off. I just hope I will be able to."

He arranged his clothes and got out of the toilet. He looked at the time on the clock just above the door of the office, it was 6 am. The toilet was attached to a cabin.

He reached for the seat and sat on it. On the table in front of him was a square-shaped polished wooden box with cursive letters, 'Glen'.

He was lost in thoughts. He took 30 minutes to regain his composure and confidence. As he got himself out of his thoughts, a popular sound distracted him.

He took out his phone from the rack and looked at it. The notification was a message from Charles. Charles messaged him, "Glen, I've got something to ask for you. Will you please do it for me?"

"Since when did you begin requesting me? I'm your bro for a reason. You just order it. I'll give it all I've got."

"Thanks for your support bro. Be sure to come to the address that I'll message you later."

"OK, I'm sure to come. Message me and I'll come to your address. You can count on me."

The phone hung up. Glen thought, "Old friends sure make you happy. Now, how can I make him join Interpol?"

He cleared up his table. When almost all the mess was cleared, he noticed a form. He began reading...

Present...

Glen's thoughts ended with the final words, "If I could only go back on time, I would've never done that and just died. But now, I can't change fate.

Why must I kill him? No, clear your thoughts, damn me. He's nothing but a piece of shit. You're no longer the one you were before. You've changed, Glen."
