The Boeing jet had crashed into the terminal, the building had collapsed, and the terrorists had taken control of the plane.
All of this had already driven the trapped passengers and staff to the edge of despair.
But just when all hope seemed lost, the debris was cleared, and a figure draped in a star-spangled cape floated into view.
In that instant, the dull, lifeless eyes of the people began to brighten.
They reached their hands toward the sky, toward the figure flying above them.
Tears of joy welled up in their eyes.
No one could tell who was the first to shout—"Homelander!"
Then, like a wave:
"Homelander!"
"Homelander!"
The cheers grew louder and louder, as if they were going to tear the roof off the terminal.
Amidst the thunderous cheers, Azu flew over the crowd and landed softly on the ground.
He turned and pointed to the opening he had made.
"Hurry, get out. The military is waiting outside."
Only then did people notice the gap, and one by one, they began running towards it.
"Thank you, Homelander!"
"Homelander, I'm your biggest fan, die-hard!"
"Homelander, I love you! My phone number is—"
As they shouted and fled, the tall figure steadily made his way toward the Boeing plane.
At that moment, a few terrorists, realizing the hostages were escaping, raised their rifles, preparing to fire.
Suddenly, a knife flew out of the shadows, stabbing into the neck of one of them.
Another terrorist had barely raised his handgun before a flash of steel flickered from behind him in the darkness.
The sound of a blade slicing into flesh echoed alongside a dying scream.
Black Noir somersaulted in front of a one-armed terrorist, his long blade extended horizontally.
The man froze in place, and a moment later, his head rolled from his neck.
---
Inside the Boeing plane.
Eddie Or roared in frustration, "What the hell is going on? How did they get right up to us without anyone notifying me?!"
His subordinates looked at each other, speechless.
Outside, a booming voice called out.
"Eddie Or."
"If you hand over Eddie Or, the rest of you can go home."
"Yes, I'm in a good mood today, so don't miss this chance."
Eddie looked through the cabin window—the one speaking was none other than Homelander!
At that moment, he could feel several pairs of eyes scanning his face.
Eddie's expression darkened as he glared at the others, "What, you're seriously thinking about giving me up?"
The soldiers quickly shook their heads.
When there was no response from the plane, Azu shrugged, nodded at Black Noir, and then radioed another companion, "The Deep, where are you?"
"I'm at the rear of the plane, boss. I've got eyes on the senator and his family."
"Not good, the terrorists have a gun to the senator."
Azu immediately activated his laser vision's scanning feature, sweeping through the plane to see if the one holding the senator at gunpoint was his target, Eddie Or.
Earlier, when he opened the gap for the hostages to escape, it was to ensure Eddie couldn't slip out with them.
Now that Eddie was still on the plane, if he came out holding Senator Hope as a hostage, Azu wouldn't hesitate to hit him with a blast of laser vision.
If that saved Hope and his family, great.
If not, Azu wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
After all, he wasn't here to save the senator.
However, the scan results left him a bit disappointed.
The one holding the senator at gunpoint was just a regular terrorist.
After a moment's thought, Azu said, "I'll cut the plane open. You and Noir go in to rescue them."
The Deep hesitated.
He was about to say, 'That's too risky,' when suddenly the middle section of the Boeing plane began glowing red.
In the next instant, a brilliant flash of red light split the plane in two.
The sound of metal grinding filled the air as the cut edges glowed red, sparks flying.
The entire plane shook violently.
In the business class section, two terrorists holding Senator Hope lost their balance and collapsed to the floor, along with the senator.
Eddie grabbed the back of a seat, gritting his teeth as he stared at the widening gap in the plane. "They were never going to negotiate."
"Kill the senator!"
As the low-ranking terrorists moved, two figures suddenly flashed into view through the gap.
One man in a green suit shouted, "The Deep is here!"
Black Noir, much quieter, slipped in and immediately threw two knives, embedding them in the necks of two terrorists standing near the senator.
He rolled across the floor, his long blade flashing as he sliced the throat of another terrorist who was raising his rifle.
In a blink.
Black Noir had killed three men.
The Deep, feeling a bit embarrassed, roared and tackled a terrorist, slamming him into the window with enough force to shatter it.
He twisted the man's neck, breaking it, then turned to the senator's daughter and said, "Don't be afraid, miss, The Deep is here to save you."
But as soon as the words left his mouth, a sharp pain exploded in his chest.
Rat-tat-tat.
A terrorist with a light machine gun had fired a burst into The Deep, knocking him back until he collapsed onto the floor.
The terrorist pulled out a grenade, preparing to throw it, but before he could, two beams of deep red light pierced his eyes and exited through the back of his skull.
The beams flew over Eddie's head, disappearing into the depths of the plane.
The light vanished.
The terrorist's head now had two gaping holes, and he dropped to the floor, grenade still in hand.
The senator's daughter, a beautiful blonde girl with blue eyes, looked up to see the steel ceiling of the plane being torn apart.
Through the gap floated Homelander, his cape billowing behind him as he smiled down at her.
She screamed excitedly, "Look, Dad!"
"Homelander is here to save us!"
Eddie saw him too, and the scarred man shouted, "Inject the Sacred Blood!"
He pulled out a syringe filled with a thick, black-red liquid.
Within the liquid, streaks of white light flickered.
"Long live the Dark Night Council!"
Eddie roared as he plunged the syringe into his neck, injecting the entire contents into his body.
The remaining seven soldiers followed suit, injecting their own vials of black blood.
Azu gave a hand signal.
Black Noir rushed over, ignoring the terrorists, and lifted Senator Hope.
With a flick of his wrist, his blade flashed.
He cut a hole in the plane, and jumped through it, escaping with the senator.
Azu floated past The Deep, who was still on the ground, and said, "If you're not dead, finish them off."
Then he shot down the central aisle, past the senator's daughter, and crashed straight into his target.
Eddie Or!
The wind howled as he passed.
Rita, the senator's daughter, stared in confusion.
Why didn't Homelander even glance at me?
Am I not pretty enough?
Meanwhile.
The Deep, clutching his chest, struggled to his feet.
Being able to operate in deep-sea environments meant he wasn't just any ordinary person.
His body density was far higher than the average human, allowing him to withstand the crushing pressures of the deep ocean.
A few machine gun bullets couldn't kill him.
But it sure hurt like hell.
With a roar, The Deep lunged at the nearest terrorist, delivering a fierce punch.
He struck the man's head at an unnatural angle, leaving the terrorist wobbling as he slumped into a seat.
But in the next moment, the man reached up, twisted his head back into place, and stood up as if nothing had happened.
The Deep was stunned.
