...…..
IN THE PRESENT, ARSTYR
Vanya glared at the system's notification, her expression a mixture of frustration and incredulity.
"....." she trailed off, her eyes narrowing at the system's enticement. "You say there's no penalty for not accepting the mission, yet you still have the guts to entice me with rewards? Do you think I am morally lacking?"
Her gaze lingered on the reward:
[Rewards: Myths in Celestial]
[Description: ?????]
[The user would have to reach a certain realm and level to obtain the description]
She scowled, frustration etched on her face. "How am I supposed to use something I don't understand?" The system seemed to know exactly how to pique her interest.
Sernon, standing before her, witnessed the array of emotions crossing her face. As one of the creators of the system, he could guess her thoughts.
"Are you receiving your first daily quests?" he asked, his voice calm.
She nodded, feeling a sense of unease. It wasn't his knowledge of the system that unsettled her, but rather the unsettling feeling that the system seemed to be adapting to her thoughts.
[Daily quests initiating...]
[Complete!]
[Daily quests]
[Run for 5 miles: 0/5 miles]
[Perform 100 pushups: 0/100]
[Increased your stats]
[Rewards: 100 XPs and 15 stat points]
She closed the system's interface with a thought. 'Just kill me!!!' she mentally screamed, anger and anguish swirling within.
"Sernon, you're right. It's because of that," she admitted, sighing. "But this isn't solving my current issue – money!!"
Sernon chuckled. "That's not a problem. Check out the shop feature; you'll find something to solve your problem."
She raised an eyebrow. "Are you telling me that this shop doesn't need money to run its business?" She scowled.
Sernon nodded. "Yes. All you need are XPs"
'Dude, that seems even harder to earn than real cash' she thought in frustration.
You might wonder why she didn't doubt his words. Why should she? Sernon naturally ought to know more about the system than she did. After all, he was the one who gave her the system.
"Okay, but I'll check the special quest contents before the shop feature," she decided.
With a thought, the system's interface reopened.
[Accept/Reject?]
She accepts the quest.
[Special Quest]
[Name the System]
[Description: Give the system a fitting name]
[Rewards: 500 XPs, 50 stat points, and Myths in Celestial]
"Woah, I get extra rewards? And this quest is so easy. Beginners luck I guess. A great one, that is!" she exclaimed.
Sernon, who knew what the quest was, also felt that the quest was somewhat easy for someone as studious as herself. But, this quest required more than smarts, it required some imagination. He was curious to know what she would name the system.
Vanya pondered for a moment before responding.
"System of Ultimates."
[Congratulations host!]
[Achievement Unlocked: System Naming]
[Rewards: 500 XPs, 50 stat points, and Myths in Celestial]
[User, you may call me the Ultimate system]
The system's notifications flashed, and she felt a surge of excitement.
"Well done," Sernon said, a hint of a smile on his face. "Now, check the shop feature. Your financial woes might just disappear."
She hesitated for a moment before opening the shop interface.
[Shop]
[Items]
[Health Potions: 10 XPs each]
[Mana Potions: 20 XPs each]
[Strength Boosters: 50 XPs each]
[Intelligence Enhancers: 50 XPs each]
[...]
Her eyes widened as she scrolled through the extensive list. This system was more complex than she had imagined.
"Sernon, how do I earn more XPs?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Sernon smiled. "Complete quests, daily tasks, and explore the world. The system will guide you."
She nodded, "don't I need to do some killings?" She's heard that was how most video gaming systems worked( from her idiot student) so was curious if the system of ultimates also works that way.
Hearing this, Sernon became solem " yes you can get XPs from killing creatures stronger than yourself. But you have to make sure that whatever creature you are killing, deserves death. Otherwise, you'd receive a penalty for each innocent soul that dies by your hands. Wars are exempted after all innocent people are bound to die in wars" he explained.
Although Vanya understands most of what he wants to convey, there is just one thing she doesn't understand one thing "who told you I want to fight wars?" What the hell????
