High above, on the very peak of heaven's abode, a Deity ordered the creation of man and animals.
"Bring forth life. Populate Gaia." With a gracious bow, two brothers descended upon the mortal land.
The first brother roamed the globe, creating numerous animals that dwelled in the highest of skies to the deepest of oceans.
The second brother simply followed the first, watching his brother's journey.
Years passed, Gaia was flourishing with life, and as their task was coming to an end, the Deity called the brothers back to His palace.
Kneeling in His presence, the first brother reported on his progress.
He showed the Deity scenes of winged animals flying in the clear skies, sleek creatures gliding through the vast ocean, and nimble four-legged creations grazing the solid ground.
Nodding in approval, He looked over to the second brother, gesturing for him to speak next.
The first brother, knowing that his brother had not created a single life form, desired to falsely claim some of his creations as his brother's.
And yet, just as the thought crossed his mind, he found that he could not speak. His mouth, which existed a moment before, no longer remained.
The first brother worried for his second, hoping that no punishment would fall on him.
As the silence persisted, the second brother finally spoke towards the Deity. "Hidden inside the deepest of jungles, I have created a creature. One that looks both towards the stars and inwardly towards itself."
His gaze sharpens, the reality which surrounds them begins to quake in response to His action.
However, the second brother stands still, undeterred by His warning.
In a moment's pass, the quaking stops, and the Deity dismisses the two brothers, having received His grace.
The first brother held many questions. When had he created these creatures? Why did his brother never tell him about his creations? Why did He let them go?
These questions plagued his mind, but he knew his brother must have withheld them for a reason.
He could only sigh and walk behind his brother as they left His palace.
Alfie's head felt like it was going to burst. His phantom body convulsed, and his limbs twisted in ways a human body should've never been able to.
He had no clue as to where he was or how he had gotten himself here.
All he saw around him was a pitch black void that stretched on for as far as the eye could see.
At first he had felt a slight pain stinging across his whole body. But after an indefinite length of time the feeling went away.
He tried to collect his thoughts, find any reasonable explanation for his current predicament.
But in a void of space, time, information, and any external influence he figured out nothing.
Finding no escape, no answer, and no distractions he slept to pass the infinite time he seemed to posses.Â
Each time he awoke, his eyes glimmer dimmed ever so slightly.
On occasions he would enter cycles of madness, laughing at his own plight.Â
But given enough time, his madness always grew bored reverting to a state of normal.Â
Eons passed and he eventually grew past his cycles of madness maturing into a state of non-being.
Drifting through the void, a light appeared in view, resembling a star shining in the void. Without warning, Alfie's husked soul was dragged into its blinding light.
Opening his eyes, the empty void no longer stared back. Instead, a lush green jungle revealed itself. One teeming with color and life that Alfie had not seen in ages.
A scene that the husk of Alfie could not enjoy. His eyes were lifeless, and although physically fine, his mind and soul remained shattered.

Alfie slowly blinked. The light within his eyes grew brighter with every second.
For the first time in centuries, life flowed through his limbs.
Dazed and feeling as if he just awoke from a long slumber, he spoke once more.
"It's too bright."
