Hazen let them drag her along, doing her best to notice landmarks as they led her through. She glanced back, hoping to see Commander Kyle in the distance.
"He's not here. He promised to protect me," she thought, panic creeping in.
"He said he'd be in the shadows. How do you expect to see him?" Amoris replied.
"Amoris. Thank goodness I'm not alone,"_ Hazen thought with relief.
The chocolate-skinned man led Hazen to a dead end.
"What's going on? Aren't I supposed to meet the Queen? Where are they taking me?!" she thought, her innocent expression threatening to falter.
"Keep calm, mortal," Amoris reprimanded her, his tone laced with irritation.
"I know, Amoris. I'm not stupid—my life is on the line here!" Hazen shot back mentally.
The chocolate-skinned man chanted a mantra, causing the wall to open and reveal a hidden passageway.
Hazen couldn't help but remember the basement and Madam Nora as she looked into the dark tunnel.
