Chapter 4 - His New Plaything

Slowly, the King's hair changed back to its original color. It was midnight black now.

But something else got my attention as I noticed the reflection of how fast the slit I made the king's neck healed. I knew people could heal fast but not so fast. What was left now was just a straight trail of blood.

"That was impressive!" I said excitedly and moved to dice at his neck again but he evaded my attack, his large palms encycling my arm on his shoulder and pulling me towards him. He was too fast for me to react and I went toppling into the blue pool.

Fear eroded my body and I screamed at the top of my lungs, water clogging my throat as I splashed around in the water, calling out for help somehow hoping that the King would have pity on me and come to my rescue but there was nothing just silence as I flapped around for my life.

My chest clogged up and my once powerful struggle began to wane. I felt my arms hurt and began to weaken. It all felt like a thick blanket was being used to tie me up tightly and I was running out of breadth.

Just then I was able to grab onto the side of the pool, I gripped it like my life depended on it because it actually did. I was able to weakly pull herself out. How I hated water.

I took in air hungrily as my back hit the dry ground, my eyes trying to regain focus. I remained sprawled out flat on the sides of the pool breathing hard and occasionally coughing out water.

When I felt a bit better I looked around and couldn't find the King in sight. I lay still on the cold floor and listened, 'He must have left me to die.' I thought but that didn't seem like what he would do, he wasn't so merciful. Anyway, whatever he was going to do I didn't want to stand in front of him looking like a drenched bird.

I moved slowly to the door trying to make my escape. I couldn't face him like this.

Upon getting to the door it was locked. "Why don't you just open up a stupid door?" I whined, but surprisingly the door sprang open and I didn't waste time, my feet carried me fast away from there.

The king appeared in the doorway after she had left, his hands behind his back as he seemed thoroughly entertained for the night.

He looked down at the small pocket knife in his hand and the hint of dried blood at its edges.

It was an ordinary knife, but it cut him. It's been decades since his awakening that some little metal hurt him. His eyes stilled as he ran through his thoughts before letting out a smirk.

"Scared of water.." he hummed. "And can compel my chamber door. Interesting." The door slammed behind him as he turned his back and went back into his chambers.

I did my slow walk of shame dripping with water and freezing in my dress back to my room. I was delighted as I didn't run into anyone in the hallway because that would have been hard to explain seeing as I didn't come out with any conceal talisman.

"You had better fear my comeback Mr King," I groaned out as I used my small frame to push my room's large double door ajar and then slipped into the dark room.

Immediately I stepped in I noticed the germed communication bracelet my mom left to me blinking.

"I need to get changed!" I panicked, as I rushed to my wardrobe pulling at things not knowing what to do. I never really paid attention to how these gametes were supposed to be put on but I was confident I could make it work.

"My baby! What took you so long to pick up? And why did you dye your hair black? And why is your hair wet?" Mom nagged at me immediately after I tapped on the bracelet even when her hazy form was not completely present.

"Mom I was deep in slumber, they work us up like dogs here! We have had to attend one boring class to the other." I whined as I crouched down in front of my mom's sitting frame giving her the puppy eyes I knew she was weak to.

"I wish I could hug you baby, but not to worry it's just a month.. just treat it like a bad vacation and let Fairy Clan be like a reward, trust me it will feel as easy as picking your favorite dragon fruit." In front of me, the queen of the Fairy clan was simply like a mother to my child, dropping all of her authority and mighty aura.

"I miss you, Mom," I muttered looking down at my palms.

"Oh dear," I heard her laugh nervously. "You haven't done anything bad have you?" I heard her ask.

"Mom! I just said I missed you." I pointed out.

"I know, I know. It's just you only say that when you do something bad behind my back…" My mom slowly drew out. "But I love you too baby, you know mom does."

My face spread out in a cheeky smile as I stared up at her flawless face staring dotingly at me.

"You should get back to sleep baby, so you have enough strength to face them tomorrow!" Mom laughed as she watched me snuggle back under the blanket.

"I would leave now, remember to call on me first if you cause trouble." Mom reminds me.

"But I have been well-behaved," I argued.

"Baby don't say that you will make me worry more, now close your eyes and go to bed Mom is leaving." I watched as her image slowly dissolved into sparkles.

"Also, your maid doesn't seem experienced enough, she has my baby dressed up like the bear clan." I heard my mom comment as she vanished completely and I chuckled.

My mind rolled over the next day's event as I plotted my next move. "Tomorrow is going to be a good day!" my eyes dropped closed as sleep enveloped me in this embrace
