Chapter 3 - Attack on the King

LYRA POV

The very next day, I seemed to be the first to wake as my entire being was restless and I could barely sleep throughout the night due to excitement.

I couldn't wait to see the King at breakfast looking beautiful in his pink hair hehe.

I willed my body to sit down obediently at the foot of my bed and wait for my maid to come in and get me prepared and to be honest it felt like torture.

"Princess Lyra, as I said some minutes ago, when it's time for breakfast I will be notified and bring you to the dining," Ava replied to my question with a forced smile on her face. She looked a bit tired of me as I have repeatedly asked her the same question multiple times now.

"What if you weren't notified? Or your telepathy thing stops working…let's just go there and wait." I tried to reason with her but she wasn't having it.

"It is against the rules to enter the dining room before the king," Ava stated,, deadpa,n, her back to the do,or, stopping me from leaving.

"What kind of a stupid rule is that?" I groaned and grabbed at my hair, I paused when I heard Ava gasp out in shock.

"Hey! I didn't mean to be disrespectful but the rule is kinda lame." I argued.

"For the sake of my neck could you please be more mindful of your speech Princess Lyra?" Ava slowly uttered, as she rushed to my side her little fox ears twitching, more reason for me to consider kidnapping her when my stay here was over. 'She was so cute!'

I just gave up and collapsed on my bed, my eyes staring blankly at the beautiful patterns in the ceiling.

"Okay, we can head to the dining room now." I heard Ava say but I was already out the door before she could help hold it open for me.

"So he dares to show up uhn?" I smirked as I increased my pace, I could hear Ava call out to me in panic from behind and I willed my legs to slow down a bit.

The hallway to the dining was a bit packed as all the other heirs made their way to the dining with their assigned maids. I easily blended in.

I could have screamed out in excitement when my eyes locked on the King seated high and mighty, he donned a cloak shielding his features but I was quick to clam my mouth shut.

A tear slipped out my eye in happiness and I moved purposely forward until I felt someone tug on my arm.

"Princess Lyra, it's this way." I looked to where Ava guestured and it was then I noticed the other set of dining tables set in rows below where I stood. I didn't utter a word and followed her.

There was a deafening silence as no one dared to make a sound in the presence of the King but that didn't bother me, I was waiting for him to take off his cloak and give a short speech before we started our meal.

My eyes squinted as the King just started eating without revealing his face or giving a speech. This wasn't normal. 'I should be a good subject and correct that!' I smiled devilishly.

I hastily drew a talisman on my palm, using the pin from my hair to prickle my hand and then using my blood to activate the spell.

My eyes darted around to make sure I had not been discovered, but all was well as everyone seemed focused on their meal, and even Ava seemed preoccupied with getting something off her uniform.

I thrust the talisman in the king's direction, my fingers tingling in anticipation as I watched it float softly in the air towards him. I was going to embarrass him like he did me.

The wind talisman took effect, pushing the King's cloak off his face. Nobody seemed to notice anything out of the ordinary but I looked on in disbelief.

"How did he get rid of it!" I asked no one in particular, my eyes glaring at him but he seemed not to notice as he just kept on eating his meal nonchalantly. It was a spell I had carefully written out with my blood, no one was supposed to be able to dispel it.

I couldn't wait for this stupid breakfast to be over, immediately the King excused himself. I was the first to dart out heading to my room.

My peace was disturbed as Ava came to get me, claiming we had a class holding up to educate us properly for the tournament ahead. But honestly, I really didn't care. I decided to go since I didn't want eyebrows raised until I accomplished my task.

I felt drained and hungry when I went back since I had nothing for breakfast and Ava said she wouldn't be able to sneak me anything to eat since everything has procedures.

I was so impatient and hungry as I waited for dark to fall so I could take cover and sneak out.

On getting to his chamber door I didn't have to wait for a servant this time as the door swung open. 'Oh, he better be ready for me.' I didn't think twice and slipped in.

My feet padded slowly into his chamber, my eyes roamed the pieces of furniture in the room, and couldn't help but notice how blad the colors were, still remembering to be cautious as I followed the dripping sound of water and rounded a corner.

I immediately sighted the devil himself, hands sprawled out, half submerged in the pool. I couldn't help but pause and stare. He did look unreal, his features striking. I didn't know where to focus. 'He just had to have the character of a devil.' I thought.

My eyes widened in perplexity as I saw his long flowing hair was still pink.

"How did you turn it black? It was supposed to be pink the whole day!" I asked, aggravated.

"I could have your neck a second time for intruding." I heard him utter his eyes still closed.

"It isn't intruding if you opened the door." I hissed. "No one is supposed to be able to reverse my blood talisman..except you didn't! That wasn't you!" my eyes light up in revelation.

The sparkle in my eyes dimmed as I saw the glistering tip of a knife heading straight for my neck. My eyes dilated, the red-rimmed in my iris deepening as I evaded the attack and caught the knife nimbly in my palm.

I didn't waste a heartbeat as I propelled myself into the air, covering the distance between us and coming to land directly behind him. In one swift move with the knife, I drew a straight line across his throat, bleeding him.

"You are swift but lack perception." I heard the king comment like it was some kind of display and that irked me.

"If I wanted you dead, the last thing you would see is your body hitting the ground." I threatened.
