After Evelyn was discharged from the medical ward by Miss Pompfrey, she was seen talking with Hadrian Potter for a suspiciously long duration.
And after that, she was seen only alongside him, as if she was his attendant. The pair was inseparable, and it didn't take long for rumors to swirl about the nature of their relationship.
Hadrian's presence at Evelyn's side was a clear message to the rest of the house: she was off-limits.
Evelyn's bullies were a bit afraid of the teachers finding out about their deeds. Fortunately, no one ever came for them. They also decided to give up on tormenting her more, she was under the wing of the famous Hadrian Potter, after all.
For Evelyn, the change in treatment was a welcome relief. Although she remained somewhat isolated from the other girls, she preferred isolation over torment. Besides, for her, from that fateful day, nothing in this world mattered in this world except for Hadrian.
She was dedicated to showing him her worth and assisted him with everything he asked. From fetching books in the library to being his test subject for spells, she was happy to be any use of him.
As the days passed, Hadrian's experiments grew more varied and complex. Evelyn endured spells that ranged from mild hexes to more potent and intricate enchantments.
Each time, Hadrian meticulously recorded the results, adjusting his techniques and refining his knowledge. Each time he would praise her for doing well, making her more addicted to himself.
Evelyn bore the physical and emotional strain without complaint, driven by her desire to be useful to Hadrian. Of course, he would heal her up once he was done.
Hadrian also taught her a couple of advanced spells to affirm her magical talents, and he was satisfied with her. It seems the only reason Evelyn was so far behind her peers was that her bullies never allowed her time to study.
One day a group of girls walked toward Evelyn when she was alone, the former bullied girl was a bit intimidated by them but readied her wand nonetheless.
However, those girls just wanted to ask how she managed to get so close to Hadrian. So, Evelyn repeated the answer Hadrian had provided for such situations.
On Halloween night, a strange incident happened as they were having the feast. Professor Quirrell burst into the hall, his face pale and his turban askew.
"Troll! - - In the dungeon! - - - Thought you ought to know!" he gasped before collapsing to the floor.
Panic ensued, students screaming and scrambling as the professors attempted to restore order. Professor Dumbledore's booming voice finally silenced the chaos.
"Prefects, lead your houses back to the dormitories immediately!" he commanded.
As the Slytherins filed out, Hadrian whispered to Evelyn, "Stay close to me."
They joined the line heading towards their dorms, but when they reached a deserted corridor, Hadrian pulled Evelyn aside. "There's something I need you to do."
Evelyn's eyes widened, eager to do whatever he demanded. "What is it?"
"You're going to take down the troll," Hadrian said calmly. "Don't kill it though,"
Evelyn's heart pounded. "A-Are you sure? It's a tro-" but mid words, she shook her head, "Okay, as you say, Hadrian." She said before dashing away.
Hadrian raised his brows, 'Who knew she'd be this loyal...'
Thinking so, he followed after her.
After navigating through several corridors, she finally reached the girls' washroom where the troll was causing a ruckus, attacking a bushy-haired girl.
"Help me!!!" The girl shouted.
Taking a deep breath, Evelyn raised her wand and whispered, "Stupefy!"
The Stunning Spell hit the troll on its shoulder, causing it to stagger. It roared in a fury, turning its attention to her. Its rageful roar terrified her.
She didn't expect this. This spell should have knocked an ordinary person unconscious but the troll was even more riled up from her attack.
She froze.
In fear, she took a few steps back, but the thought of disappointing Hadrian brought her back from her stupor.
Gritting her teeth, she circled around it, dodging its sluggish swings, and cast a series of hexes and jinxes. "Petrificus Totalus!" she shouted, her voice echoing in the small space.
The troll froze, its body locked in a rigid stance. Evelyn panted, sweat dripping down her face.
"Hey, um... thanks for saving me... are you okay?" The bushy-haired girl hesitantly walked towards her.
Soon the teachers came, and the girls handled everything just fine, Hermione even took the blame on herself to save Evelyn from punishment from Snape and Mcgonagle.
Hadrian who watched this from afar, also left.
He had thought to [Apparate] Evelyn away in case of any danger but she did better than expected... a 1st year girl winning against a mountain troll is not an everyday thing, just as Mcgonagle quoted before awarding Slytherin 5 points.
'Now then, Evelyn has saved Hermione, a poor muggle witch, just like her... This situation fulfills all the conditions to invoke a 'Life Debt' contract. Perhaps, I'll tell Evelyn to invoke it and make that girl a slave...'
But not now, in the future perhaps...
Anyway, this seemed a bit suspicious.
'A troll in the dungeons... near the student's dormitories. And what was Quirell doing in the dungeons instead of being in the great hall unlike the rest of the professors... all of this seems a little suspicious...'
But before anything, Hadrian had to head back to the dorms right now or he might get in unnecessary trouble. Snape was already out for a chance to bash him for literally anything.
That night, Hadrian used his 'Dream Manipulation' to investigate the oddities in the school.
He found out that a particular section of the school was laced with even more traps and surveillance spells than the others, and at the end of everything, he found the philosopher stone kept in those secure chambers.
And of course, he wanted to covet the stone for himself.
Ageless Immortality seemed like a nice perk...
