Owen first saw Hailey Summers when he was 10, at a charity event his family was invited to. She was there as the main performer and sang a classic that brought the hall into tears. He has admired her ever sense, to the point that he worked day and night to avail a scholarship at the highschool she would be attending as soon as she was 14. Too bad, they were in different grades, though. He was a year older than her.
Now, aged 18, he is supposed to graduate but he refuses to do so, failing the final exams on purpose and resitting the entire year. His parents are incredibly disappointed in him but they don't know how important it is for him to see her face as many times as possible.
The moment he saw her first, he always wanted to draw her.
She is his muse.
Alas, in the four years he has spent at this school, he has never talked to her once. He can't bring himself to. He's too embarrassed and insecure about himself.
Getting ready for school one day, he sighs in the mirror,
"I wish I could be more like him, her ex-fiance."
The School's hotshot, Erman, who was engaged to his idol when they were children. The engagement broke off but not mutually. Hailey probably still likes him. All her songs always revolve around him, after all.
Last year, he even tried to imitate his style, in hopes that he could catch her eye. He dyed his hair blonde and got it permanently straightened as well. When he went to school the other day though, it seemed as though everyone saw through him, with his hair slicked back and him wearing clothes similar to his style. They would laugh behind his back.
The twink is trying to be the Erman, huh?
Isn't that just cute?
Why though?
He's probably just seeking attention.
Hailey never noticed him and as if the day could get worse, Erman even smirked at him across the hallway.
He hasn't been able to make friends in that school since. He absolutely hates Erman but wants to be him at the same time, just so he could get the slightest but of recognition from Hailey. This may be why he still retouched his blonde dye every once in a while, despite his mother's qualms.
At school, he usually ignores everyone and bunks all classes which Hailey doesn't take with him. Oh and there's this short fat girl too who thinks they're in the same boat, as in she also wants Hailey's attention, which is why she always acts like her side kick.
Atleast you get to do that. I can't even bring myself 1 feet in proximity with her.
She doesn't like Hailey like he does tho. She wants her attention so the other popular kids can give her attention. She even acts as their side kick whenever Hailey's busy with work.
Right now, they're in the rooftop, him being busy listening to Hailey's songs and her being busy ramming about gossip to him.
She throws an empty can at him,
"It's almost time for Literature, idiot. Hailey's going to show up."
She makes a run for it, him following from behind.
As soon as he gets to the class though, it's filled with laughter.
"Hailey, you've got to check this out!"
"Hey, that's not yours!"
"You're telling that twink wrote this? The one who never talks and is always gawking at Hailey."
"I actually saw this coming though. The way he's always looking at her would freak me out even."
"No wonder she never talks to him."
Owen's heart skips a beat as he stands at the door. A guy approaches him and swings his shoulder around him.
"Didn't know you were this romantic, man!"
"W-what's going on?"
"Oh well, you know a transfer student was supposed to come from the previous week right? So she got a week's break because of an accident and today's her first-"
"Just get to the point!"
"Chill out man! The transfer girl threw your bag from the chair and your little love book fell out."
"She what!?"
He runs to his seat, gasping. A commotion is already there with some kids laughing at the songs he wrote while the others consoling Hailey and sending him glares. In the middle of this rush stands a confused muscular girl way taller than him, who's trying to get the notebook back. He takes his bag from her.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?"
A girl trying to console Hailey yells at him,
"What the fuck is wrong with YOU? aren't you embarrassed? Writing about a minor like that?"
He splutters, "She's 17! I'm 18!"
"See, new girl? Stop trying to defend him. And don't blame yourself too much, too. Thank goodness we know what sort of a guy he is now."
"The songs aren't even profane!" He's full on red now. The new girl approaches him with guilt.
"I'm really sorry-"
"Shut up!", and so he just runs away to the rooftop, tears stinging his eyes.
Hailey didn't even look surprised. There was zero emotion behind her eyes.
Am I....
Really that insignificant?
