"Ryan?" Aria stirred slightly in her sleep,
Ryan's eyes snapped towards her sleeping form.
"I'm here," He replied softly, did she think I had left or am I that of an asshole.
Aria's eyelids fluttered open, still heavy with sleep as she struggles to sit back up on the table, she can't believe she had slept off.
"Sorry," she said. "I didn't mean to sleep."
Ryan's lips curled upward. "You needed it"
Aria nodded gratefully,Ryan had been the one helping her since, the least she could do was stay awake with him. "Thanks," she said. "How long did I sleep?"
Ryan opened his mouth to reply, but before he could utter a word, they heard the door handle starts to shake. The sound was as if someone was trying to open the door.
Ryan quickly shut up and his hand quickly moves to his gun, ready to draw a bullet to the intruder.
Aria's eyes widened and she tried to move out from the table but her injured leg stopped her
"Stay back," Ryan mouthed.
Aria nodded as she tried to slide off the table again, but a sharp pain shot through her injured leg.
Ryan noticed her wince. " Don't fucking move," he whispered.
Aria's face twisted in frustration. "I have to," she mouthed back
"No, you will make it worse." The door handle shakes again, and this time it was more louder
"Ryan?" Aria whispered.
"I will handle it," Ryan replied, turning back to the door.
The door shakes louder this time, the wood creaked under the pressure. A banging sound was heard on the door.
"Please," a faint voice whispered.
"Please, please," the voice begged, growing more desperate.
Louder banging on the door followed, the sound reverberating through the room.
Someone was at the door, banging on it as if their life depended on it.
Ryan's expression turned cautious, he doesn't want to open the door, why would someone be banging on it.
The banging grew more desperate
"Ryan, isn't it someone?" Aria asked.
Ryan's grip on his gun tightened.
"I can't risk it" he said, what if he opens the door and a creature entered.
Aria quickly carried her bag to her back, preparing for the worst.
They don't know what's behind the door, so it's better to be ready.
A bloody scream was heard outside the door and the door started to shake rapidly
Aria gasped."Oh God," as she saw the chair that was holding the door begin to shake.
The scream outside was mixing with a gagging sound as if the person that was screaming was also choking to a liquid substance.
Ryan quickly walked to the window he was gazing at before. He looked at how they would be able to jump from it and land.
"It's our only chance," Ryan whispered to himself, they couldn't stay there anymore with the way the chair was shaking it wouldn't be long before it opens.
Ryan carefully opened the window and the cool breeze swept in.
Aria shivered from the table.
Ryan swiftly walked over to her, but her eyes were fixed on the shaking door.
"Hold tight," Ryan whispered while carefully lifting her into his arms and puts her to his back.
Aria wrapped her arms around his neck tight.
The scream outside the door was not heard but the shaking of the door continued, growing more intense, indicating that whatever was at the door was still there.
Ryan quietly walked back to the window, his eyes scanning the area below.
While the moon cast a glow over the deserted land.
Ryan looked out of the window, his eyes adjusting to the darkness.
"The drop isn't too far," he said, but on a normal day that jump was freaking high even for an Olympics..
"Are you kidding?" Aria whispers "That's like a million feet!"
Ryan chuckled."On a normal day, maybe. But we don't have a choice."
"Right."Ryan helped Aria adjust her position on his back.
"Ready?" he asked.
Aria took a deep breath before answering.
"Yes."
Ryan looked back at the door to see it starting to open.
Ryan jumped and they landed hard on the ground.
He groaned as he absorbed the impact, his knees buckling beneath him. He was the one who took all the weight, shielding Aria from the shock.
Aria's arms loosened around his neck.
"Are you okay?" she whispered.
"Fine," Ryan muttered.
Aria slid off his back to run but Ryan pulled her back up.
"Your injury would slow us down" he whispered shouted, they couldn't afford to make loud noises as to not attract more danger to them.
Ryan sprinted into the road as the darkness seemed to close in around them.
The sound of his footsteps echoed behind as he ran.
Aria clings to his neck like a koala, her slender arms wrapped tightly around him while her ponytail was bouncing with each stride Ryan takes.
The darkness began to clear, indicating that dawn was approaching.
The dark horizon transformed into a mixture of pink and orange, a breathtaking mix of colors that seemed almost surreal amidst their desperate flight.
Aria lifted her head, her eyes scanning their surroundings. she didn't see any creature but that didn't guarantee they were safe.
"The sun's rising," she noted.
Ryan nodded."We need to find shelter before then."
As they ran, the silence between them was punctuated only by the sound of their footsteps and the increasing light of dawn.
