The drive back to the penthouse was silent. I could feel the weight of what had just transpired at the Hartley estate pressing down on both Michael and i. His grip on the steering wheel was tight, his knuckles white, and his jaw clenched as he stared straight ahead, his mind clearly racing with thoughts he wasn't ready to share.

 

The tension in the air between them was suffocating. I tried to focus on the city streets passing by, the familiar sights blurring together as my thoughts spiraled. I knew Michael had done what he had to do—Liam's betrayal had left him no choice. But it didn't make it any easier. Family was complicated, and the damage Liam had caused wouldn't be easily repaired.
