Liam's expression twisted with frustration. "You don't understand, Isabella. I know I've made mistakes—hell, I've made more than a few. But I'm trying to make things right."
I arched an eyebrow, unimpressed. "And what does that mean, exactly?"
Liam took a deep breath, running a hand over his face. "I know Michael's onto me. He's probably already got someone digging into my accounts, but there's more to this than you realize. If you let him keep digging, he's going to find things that will hurt him. Things that will hurt you too."
My pulse quickened. "What are you talking about?"
Liam stepped closer, lowering his voice as if afraid someone might overhear. "There are people—dangerous people—who don't want this coming to light. If Michael keeps pushing, they'll retaliate. And you'll be caught in the crossfire."
