Chapter 6 - Lonely

After the very painful incident for Rover, he has now returned to the place where he was watching the zombies. This time he has slightly recovered and his 'mana' energy has been replenished to 40% of his total 'mana'.

According to information obtained from the student group who saw him in the room, they had been waiting for him for 1 hour.

They had called Rover multiple times, but there was no response.

Sensing something amiss, they immediately approached Rover's room and found his body lying injured and the floor covered in blood everywhere.

They were shocked by what they saw. Why was their leader covered in blood, when there was no access to the outside so it was impossible for a zombie to enter? Seeing something strange about this situation, they could only wait while caring for the severely injured Rover who was still alive as evidenced by his calm breathing.

However, someone in the group became a little disappointed with Rover's condition and decided to leave the group because they saw no more opportunity to survive if they stayed with them.

The group witnessing the departure of one of their members became confused and started feeling complex emotions about what was happening.

They were given two options, leave their rescuer and continue to survive or stay and care for their injured rescuer.

They could choose the second option and not leave their rescuer, but the situation was so difficult and complex that they had to rethink the choice they would make.

They couldn't care for a severely injured person while trying to survive, as it would be a burden that threatened their safety.

However, they couldn't just abandon the person who saved them.

Therefore, after a considerable amount of time, some of the group eventually decided to split up and leave Rover and the person who chose to stay and care for him.

Rover, who witnessed all the events in front of him, could only sigh as he let them part ways.

It was not their fault for leaving him severely injured, especially in the current apocalyptic conditions where they had no choice but to prioritize surviving.

"Understanding human nature is truly troublesome, isn't it," he remarked as he watched the departing group before turning to look at the ones who remained.

"Hey, why don't all of you just leave and get out of this place? Your friend was right, you should have just left me and gone to survive. Isn't your lives precious now? Why do you want to stay and live with me?" Rover asked mockingly to them all.

The ones who stayed could only fall silent for a moment after hearing Rover's words.

They didn't know if what they were doing was right or not, and if what their companion said was actually true.

Seeing them in total confusion, Rover just smiled and began to do the last thing he had to do. He stood up and walked with heavy steps, feeling the weight of each step.

"So, have you decided on your life path? Will you continue to follow me or go back to your previous group?"

Time continued to pass, but this time it felt very slow compared to before. It was now 10 PM, indicating that several hours had passed.

In an abandoned building room, Rover was getting ready to leave. He had been in this room for a few hours to recover, and now his condition had improved by 75% as he had allocated all his points to increase his vitality stats.

After his companions left him, Rover spent his time studying the abilities and statuses he had gained that day.

By sacrificing some points to all stats, he finally began to understand the usefulness of each status.

Strength was useful for increasing attack power and lifting heavy objects more easily.

Agility made someone faster and more agile in any situation.

Stamina helped endure physical exertion and reduce fatigue.

Sense is useful for enhancing the five senses of living beings and being more influenced by surrounding stimuli such as smell, temperature, light, sound, pressure, and even specific things like 'mana' energy.

Vitality is useful for enhancing regeneration in 'mana' energy, stamina, and even the body, as well as improving the body's condition to become more resistant to attacks and diseases.

And finally, there is magic. Compared to various stats that he has experimented with, only the magic stat remains mysterious to him.

Because even though he has experimented with the skills he possesses, Rover does not see any significant changes in the skills he uses.

Then after using it with his skill, he tries to channel 'mana' energy into his weapon, but the effects he receives and feels are still the same. No matter how much he distributes status points to the 'magic' stat.

After spending 6 status points on the 'magic' stat, he stops his experiments and distributes all remaining status points to the 'vitality' stat to recover more quickly from the wounds still present on his body.

"Alright, we should hurry to the sports building to be safe from danger for the time being," he said to himself while carrying Lily's body in his arms.

After making sure nothing was left behind, Rover promptly left the building to go to the sports venue, the safest place for now.

Upon arriving at the location, he observed the sports building and his movements immediately slowed down.

As his gaze shifted forward, Rover's pupils suddenly dilated and trembled uncontrollably when he saw the scene in front of him.

Hundreds of zombie corpses and monsters were scattered everywhere, unrecognizable body parts were strewn and lying on the ground, the stench of decay and thick red blood spread in all directions, making it unbearable for anyone to stay there for a moment.

But it wasn't the main concern for Rover that made him take a few steps back, it was what he saw as a disaster. Not a disaster, but more like a nightmare.

Yes, a nightmare that Rover could never have imagined even in his wildest dreams.

"M-Mom?"
