The test subject is successfully confirmed. The test subject will be online in the next 5 seconds. A mechanical voice sounded.
Counter starting, five… four… three… two… one…
"Where am I? What is this? Am I in a dream, or what?"
Austin woke up in a scientific facility, inside a room that was covered with glass all around, and the room was entirely white.
His vision became so blurry as he tried to look round the room where he was. Suddenly, a beam of white light shone on his face, into his eyes.
"Test Visibility is normal; he's now conscious and fully online. Can you hear me?" A man's voice sounded.
Austin heard a man's voice talking but couldn't figure out where the voice was coming from. He couldn't even move his hands or legs. The only thing he was conscious of making use of was his neck, moving it slowly as he tried to look round with the blurry view.
Upon seeing the light that was shone on his face, he noticed the figure of a man dressed in a scientific lab coat, approaching with something in his hands that he couldn't identify because of his low sight and blurry view.
"Stay calm, it will be fast and easy."
Suddenly, Austin felt a sharp pain on his spine, like some fluid passing through his back boon to the veins in his body.
"Stay calm. Your sight will return to you as soon as the fluid starts taking action, probably in 10 minutes," a voice sounded.
Ten minutes later, Austin's sight began to get active, and he could see a little bit clearer. His toes began moving as he tried to stand up from the bed where he was liad, but he noticed that his hands were locked onto the left and right side of the bed, along with his both legs.
"Don't try to stand or do anything. Stay calm. I have some few questions for you to test your memories if they are active. Before I proceed to that, my name is Professor Donald. I am your special doctor for your maintenance and care, so feel free around me. I'm not here to hurt you."
The doctor gently sat beside Austin on a chair close to the bed where Austin was being laid on while restrained. The doctor sat down with a book in his hands and a pen, more like a recording book where info is being taken.
Austin was completely clueless about what was going on around him, with no memories of what had happened. He tried to move his head to where the doctor was sitting beside him but couldn't. His neck hurt.
"Your neck hurts right?" the doctor asked. "That's impressive, that's a very fast improvement. You can feel pain. Hmmm, I need to take this down in my book."
Then the doctor began writing some words in the book, after that. He shifted his gaze back to Austin.
"Where am I?" Austin asked.
"You are in a research facility, a high technological facility, made specifically for research."
"What is your name, test subject one zero one."
Austin tightened his jaw and clenched his teeth in pain as he responded, "My name is Austin. What happened here? Why am I here?" Austin responded while asking weakly, trying to turn his neck due to the pain sticking in his cervical vertebrae at the back of his neck.
"Hmmm, that's impressive. You remember your name, hmmm" the doctor said while playing with the pen he held in his hands.
"Okay. I have gotten what I wanted from you, Austin. And one more thing, don't forget my name, or should I say it to you again?
He asked jokingly, as he smiled. My name is Professor Donald, Don't forget that.
The doctor stood up from the chair he was sitting on and then walked to a wall around the room. The room was entirely pure white, with glass all around that you could see yourself. When he reached the wall, he removed a card from his pocket and slid it in a thin line in the wall, then suddenly a door emerged from the room wall opening wide.
The doctor turned and looked at Austin, with a smile spreading across his face and said, "Out of twenty thousand test subjects, only one zero one was successful. That's a massive success. Captain Charles will be happy and impressed."
Then he walked out the door. As soon as he walked out, the door closed immediately, leaving Austin alone in the room.
Suddenly, the lock that was placed on his hands and legs attached to the medical bed where he lay began opening in an instant, more like it was being controlled by a remote sensor setting him free.
Austin tried to stand but couldn't. He tried for minutes and suddenly he stood up but was still sitting on the bed, with his hands supporting his body. With a sigh, his gaze suddenly shifted to his hand. He noticed that his hands were made of iron, more like a robot.
As soon as he noticed, his eyes widened and popped out in shock, and his eyebrows raised, arching in surprise.
"Wha… what is this," Austin said surprisingly while bringing his hands closer to his eye level, looking carefully at it, "this is iron. My hands are made up of iron," he said surprisingly.
Then he tried to check his leg as well but also noticed that his leg was also made up of iron, a robotic leg.
His heart pounded as he looked all around his body and noticed that his body was entirely reconstructed in a robotics form.
He stood up suddenly and tried to walk toward the mirror but fell onto the ground.
He was not fully in control of his movement, his legs still moved on their own. So he tried to use his hands and dragged his body to the mirror to see for himself what he really looked like.
Upon reaching the mirror, he saw his appearance; his face was entirely reconstructed like a robot, but his left eye was still left in a human form. While the other eye glowed in a blue color deep inside.
"What is this? No, this is not me," Austin pondered. "I can't look this way. I was once someone, I once had a face, but I don't know what my face looks like or have any memories of myself.
"But... How can I remember my name? If I can remember my name, then I should be able to remember and get hold of my memories. I feel like I am entirely controlled. Who is that man? Who was that man that was speaking, Austin keeps asking himself, cluelessly.
But I could remember his name. Austin feel frustrated and confused, like his thoughts are slipping away from him, without getting a grasp of them."
"Donald... Yes, Donald... That was his name. Who was he?"
Austin lay on the ground while looking at his image on the wall, confusion and wonder spread across his mind. Completely lost, he couldn't remember anything about his past, only his name.
The experimental facility where Austin had been placed looked like a room. It had some doctors all around it outside. and it was more like a room being placed under surveillance, with robotic soldiers fully armed with weapons. The room had some wires connected to it from the outside. with some computers and tanks of blue fluid placed all around it, connected directly to the room. Outside the room is transparent, the doctor could see Austin inside When they are outside the room. They could see his entire movement with a steady record taking of his system progression.
The facility was more like an underground, large chamber made with high technological equipment, beyond present days.
"Hmm, he can talk. That's surprising, and that's a good improvement. It a good improvement that he could understand language and speech, and even tries to remember his memories." Doctor Donald said.
"The Neorocore system is fully online, 100 percent active. Our test subject is successful and fully online," Doctor Donald said in mumbling silence while standing beside the transparent room where Austin had been placed. He could see Austin from the outside, but Austin couldn't see what was outside.
