Chapter 9 - Three Days Left

Doctor Donald kept staring at the transparent glass room, showing Austin inside, as he lay confusedly on the ground, trying to move his body.

Suddenly, Doctor Donald's phone began ringing on his pocket. He quickly delved his hands inside and retrieved the phone; with a quick gesture of his hands, he answered the call.

"Is my experiment ready and fully active?" a voice from Doctor Donald's phone sounded aggressively.

"Yes, sir. The test subject is active and fully online. But there is one more thing to do before he can be used for our task," Doctor Donald said.

"There is an improvement in the neurocore control system. And his memories are fairly lost. Only his name was remembered by him. But there is still a possibility that he could regain his memories. I will try my best to avoid that from happening.

"I need you to give us like three days, sir. And I promise you that you will see an excellent job done by me. We have to make sure that we gain full control of him and make the neurocore system to be in our favor, sir," Donald said while talking to the other man on the phone at the other end.

Okay, that's good news to hear. "I'm sticking to your word, Donald," the man at the other end of the phone said. "Three days, you said?" he asked.

"Yes, sir, three days," Donald replied.

"I am putting my hopes on you. You know the future of our success lies in this experiment. I have invested a lot in this, so don't fail me," the man said then cut off the call.

Doctor Donald sighed while gripping his phone tightly as he looked at Austin from the outside.

"No matter what, you lap rat, you have to be fully active in less than three days, or we are all doomed," doctor Donald said while bringing down his phone gently as he grabbed it firmly into his pocket.

"Hey you," he said, pointing at a guy adjusting some pipe that was been connected to the room where Austin was.

"Come over here." He said.

"Me?" the guy asked confusingly, confused if he was the one doctor Donald was referring the call to. He's just a common worker in the facility. He was surprised, while facing to look at doctor Donald with an unsettled expression on his face.

"Yeah, you, of course; how many freaks are there with you? Get over here real quick," doctor Donald said.

"We are going inside that room together, you and me; you will help me hold a special equipment, do you understand," doctor Donald asked.

"Yes, sir, I understand. What shall I assist you with?" the guy asked.

"Hmmm, that's impressive," Donald said. "I love your courage."

The entire facility was filled with doctors, and each of them had their function. Some are based on the aspect of remote controlling of the building and the data process of the experiment they are conducting. Some are responsible for the repairs of the pipes, which contain chemical fluids in each of the experimental rooms. The underground chamber was vast. Austin was not the only experiment they were working on. It just that he happened to be one of the few successful ones to pass the critical process of the experiment. there were a lot of experimental humans under the awaken experiment of the neorocore. But only Austin was the first and successful once to come to life as well as being fully online.

Hey kid, are you ready for this? Doctor Donald asked the guy he called previously.

Yes, sir, I am ready.

"Okay, fellows," Austin shouted out loud to the other workers and doctor around. activated the active Neurocore system sleep mode and turned off test subject one zero one half offline. "We need to continue the experiment and make sure that our test subject is due in no time."

"We have not less than three days to make this happen. So get to work," he said.

He then turned and looked at the guy. "You, what's your name?" he said. "My name is George," the guy replied.

"Okay, George, fill up the chemical fluid in this injection device and hold it for me, doctor Donald said while giving the device to George.

When we get inside the room, you give it back to me. I need to neutralize the active Neurocore memories, even his name; I want him to forget it, I don't want his memories to get in our way. After that, we overload him with electrical power and test his resistable force over electricity. We have to know if he can withstand the high voltage and be aware Of his environment when he halfly shot is down. Donald said while talking to George, who was beside him holding the chemical fluid in the injection.

Billie, Donald's assistant, approaches doctor Donald. Billie is more like the second-in-command under the research facility and oversees everything that goes on in the entire building when Doctor Donald is not present.

"Sir, the machines are fully ready, sir. We can proceed now," Billie said while holding a key in his hands.

We are ready to neutralize the neurocore system, sir. Should we proceed?

"No, hold on, Billie," Donald commanded. "I need to observe a few things before we proceed," he said. Then he gently walked to the well secured glass building where Austin was, with his hands folded at his back.

He reached the building's transparent wall while gazing at Austin's robotics features. With a serious expression he said, "It's unbelievable that it worked; this host was completely dead when we retrieved the body, the neurocore finally accepted a host, hmmm. All the others were still alive when we took them and performed the experiment on them. Even with that, they ended up dead.

This man is completely different from the others and unique. The neurocore technology system accepted him.

Even till date, I haven't gotten the complete way of how the neurocore works. A technology that was not created by human beings, what do you expect? But I will try my best to make everything active and fully functional," Dr. Donald murmured to himself as he fixed his gaze on Austin.

Now, do it, Billie's Doctor Donald said. "Yes, sir," Billie responded. Then he walked to the control room where a series of controls are been placed. He went to a specific control section in the room and inserted the key he was holding earlier.

With his hands on the key as it was inserted, he looked at Doctor Donald; Doctor Donald looked back at him, and then they shook their heads in unison, a signal for Billie to proceed.

As he turned the key to the left, Austin immediately shot down down. But his eyes still rolled around; Austin could not talk or move. Instead, he lay quietly on the ground.

"Oh yeah, that's it. Be a good boy and stay calm for a while," Doctor Donald said. His lips gently curled into a smile as he stared at Austin, gradually shutting down.

"Open the door, now George," Donald commanded. "Yes, sir, I'm doing it right away."

George then walked towards the door that emerged from inside, the invisible door that tends to emerge from inside the room when Doctor Donald swiped his pass card. From outside the room, he could indicate the exact location of the door. He then walked to the door and pressed a big button placed at the center of the massive iron door.

The door gradually ejected as it folded open. "Sir, it's fully open now, sir," George said.

"Yeah, I can see that as well, I am not blind," Doctor Donald said, angrily. "Bring in the fluid with you inside. we have just like three days to make this machine fully functional."

Then he walked into the room and climbed a few steps, with George at his back.

"Billie, make sure that you watch the system and alert us if anything goes wrong," Donald said.

"Yes sir, understood," Billie replied.
