The man sat calmly at his desk, his stony face a mask of composure. His eyes remained fixed on the computer screen, his gaze unwavering.
Han, his assistant, knocked softly on the door, and he granted entry with a curt "Come in."
Han entered, his expression worried. He approached the desk, waiting for his boss to acknowledge him.
"What is it this time, Han?" he asked, his voice cold as ice.
Han hesitated before speaking. "It's... It's your uncle, sir. Mr. Fredrick. He visited your grandparents' manor today and started a fight."
His boss's expression didn't change, but his eyes flashed with annoyance. He chuckled darkly, the sound sending shivers down Han's spine.
"If it weren't for the fact that he's my grandmother's son, he wouldn't be a huge deal to get rid of. He's starting to be a huge thorn in my flesh."
His eyes turned cold, dead, and merciless.
"Find me a suitable woman, Han. I've had enough."
Han opened his mouth to speak, but his boss cut him off.
"If she were awake, the hospital would have contacted me by now, Han. I can no longer wait. Find me a woman now."
The air seemed to chill, and Han's worry deepened. He knew better than to question his boss's orders.
"Yes, sir," Han replied, backing away slowly.
His boss's gaze returned to the computer screen, his face impassive once more.
Han retreated, closing the door behind him. His mind raced with the implications of his boss's words.
As soon as Han left the office, Jason's phone sprang to life, vibrating on his desk. He picked it up, his eyes narrowing at the hospital's number on the screen.
"Hello, Mr. Von Charles. We're excited to inform you that the woman has finally woken up. We've examined her, and she's in perfect condition now. She's ready to be discharged," the doctor announced cheerfully.
Jason's voice dropped to a menacing tone. "When did she wake up?"
The doctor's enthusiasm faltered. "S...she woke up yesterday, sir, but we had to ensure she was okay before calling you..."
Jason's impatience grew. "What was my instruction?"
Silence...
"Answer me."
The doctor stuttered, "T... That we call you immediately she wakes up... But sir, I was only trying to..."
Jason's voice turned glacial. "So you chose to disobey me?"
The doctor's heart raced audibly over the phone. "N... No, sir... I just... I"
Jason cut him off. "Your medical license will be revoked for disobeying me. It will be seen as a treacherous act for not informing me first. Have you gotten in contact with my enemies?" The doctor could easily imagine the smug look plastered to his face. That was undoubtedly outlandish!
The doctor's composure broke. He started pleading over the phone.
"S... sir..."
Jason hung up, his expression blank.
The doctor slumped, defeated. He knew his career was over. "Why did I wait?" he thought, regret washing over him. Was it wrong to ensure Kimberly's full recovery before notifying Jason?
But what if Jason's order had a special reason?
The doctor's mind circled with questions.
He realized he had made a grave mistake. Pleasing Jason had been his priority, but now, his own future was at stake.
Jason, the firstborn son of the esteemed Von Charles family, embodied the characteristics of a ruthless leader. His intellect was unmatched, with an impressive IQ that left many in awe. As the heir to his grandfather's vast business empire, Jason's destiny was clear.
The Von Charles family legacy was built on power, wealth, and strategic leadership. The family's patriarchal tradition dictated that the most capable member would inherit the CEO position, controlling the family's vast interests.
Jason's exceptional abilities made him the undisputed choice. His grandparents, who founded the empire, favored him above all others. His parents, aware of the dangers that came with Jason's position, protected him fiercely.
Jason became a target. Rival family members tried to eliminate him, fearing his ascendancy.
Jason turned 21. His parents were brutally murdered in cold blood, leaving him shaken but resolute. He knew one of their close relatives had something to do with it.
Jason assumed the leadership role, as he continued to honor his family's legacy and protect his interests. His calculating nature and ambition propelled him to the top.
Now, as a billionaire with control over the family's business chain, Jason ruled most of the country's business circle and beyond. His intelligence and strategic thinking ensured his power, crushing any opposition.
Immediately he hung up, he called his assistant who appeared not long after. Han entered his boss's office with his head lowered as he stood in front of him. " Han, don't worry about bringing anyone anymore."
Han quickly heaved a sight of relief as he let out a nervous chuckle. " What a relief… I… I mean I was a bit skeptical about informing you at first, but it seems you've been informed." He explained.
" What are you talking about, Han?" Jason's blank face made him gulp.
" You… you haven't been informed yet? I… I mean… Great Mrs Von has informed me that she'd prepared a nice lady for you to marry, since… S… since you had no hope of getting a woman you actually liked." Han explained, and tried to maintain his composure without breaking.
He had been working with Jason over the years, but still couldn't fully put up with his aura. Although he could more than most people.
Han is a specially trained, and seasoned man from a wealthy family, thus, he was well refined and equally knowledgeable.
The von empire couldn't just hire anyone without proper ethics, and a fine background. Everything is taken into consideration.
" I have no hope of getting a woman I actually like?" Jason replied. It was obvious that he was amused, but his expression was still blank.
" Mrs Von said that." Han replied.
" Han's eyes widened in surprise as he processed Jason's instruction.
"Sir, are you certain? It's been six months since the accident. Are you sure she's ready to be discharged?" Han asked, trying to hide his skepticism.
Jason's expression remained impassive. "The hospital assured me she's recovered. See to it, Han."
Han nodded, his mind racing with the implications.
He recalled the fateful day six months ago when Kimberly's car crashed.
They had been driving through a deserted road, en route to an important meeting, when a sudden gunshot echoed through the air.
Jason's security team sprang into action, assuming they were under attack.
The guards swiftly repositioned their vehicles, sandwiching Jason's car between two escort vehicles.
Han, seated beside the driver, instinctively readied his gun, prepared for any eventuality.
As they accelerated, a speeding car appeared in the distance, fleeing the scene.
Meanwhile, another vehicle careened off the road, tumbling down the cliff.
Han's trained eyes took in the scene, and he realized the gunshot wasn't intended for them.
"Han's eyes remained fixed on the wreckage as he spoke, "Looks like someone else was the target, sir."
Jason's response was detached, his gaze never leaving the road. "Hmm. Let's move on."
Han hesitated, his tone laced with concern. "Sir, the person in the car might be hurt. Maybe we should check on them."
Jason's expression turned glacial. "What do I care? Besides, the car fell off the cliff; they'll probably burn soon. The chances of them being alive are very low. Don't waste my time. I don't even know them."
Han's words trailed off, but he couldn't help thinking of Jason's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Von Charles. "Imagine if someone was there to save—"
A grunt escaped Jason's lips, cutting Han off.
"Get out of my car now," Jason ordered, his voice icy.
Han didn't hesitate; he exited the vehicle immediately.
"I'm sorry, sir," Han said, lowering his head.
Jason instructed the chauffeur to continue driving, leaving Han stranded.
Alone on the deserted road, Han cursed himself for speaking out of turn.
A black SUV pulled up beside him, and four bodyguards emerged.
"The boss sent us to help you out," one guard explained.
Han recognized them as part of Jason's security detail.
"What's going on?" Han asked, still reeling from Jason's abrupt dismissal.
"The boss wants you to investigate the wreckage," another guard replied.
Han's eyes widened in surprise. "But he just—"
The guard's expression turned grim. "Orders changed. Come with us."
Han nodded, following the guards into the SUV.
As they drove toward the wreckage, Han wondered what had triggered Jason's sudden change of heart.
Was it something Han said, or was there more to the accident than met the eye?
Han nodded, still processing the sudden change in plans.
"I'll make preparations to bring her to your hotel suite," Han confirmed.
Jason's eyes narrowed slightly, his voice firm.
"We'll be going to the hospital to take her to the suite together. Just make sure the suite is ready."
Han's expression turned compliant. "Yes, sir. I'll ensure everything is prepared."
Jason's gaze lingered on Han for a moment before he turned back to his work.
Han quickly pulled out his phone and dialed the hotel's number, his mind racing with the logistics.
"Hotel concierge, please prepare the presidential suite for our arrival. Mr. Jason will be checking in with a guest. Ensure everything is perfect."
He paused, listening to the concierge's confirmation.
"Yes, sir. The suite will be ready within the hour."
Han ended the call and turned back to Jason.
"Everything is arranged, sir. The suite will be ready when we arrive."
Jason nodded curtly, his focus still on the documents before him. " Hm."
