The rain continued to fall in steady sheets, unrelenting. Kyle stood before her, his mind racing as he watched Mayu shiver in the cold. Without thinking, he shrugged off his jacket, offering it to her.
"Here, take this. You'll get sick if you stay out here like that," he said, stepping closer.
Mayu blinked, looking up at him with a mix of surprise and reluctance. She shook her head, pushing the jacket away gently. "I'm fine," she muttered, though her voice was weak.
Kyle wasn't having it. He frowned and insisted, draping the jacket over her soaked shoulders despite her protest. "You're not fine," he said firmly, the determination in his voice leaving no room for argument.
For a moment, Mayu sat frozen, her body stiff beneath the warmth of his jacket. She didn't want to admit it, but the gesture touched her in a way she hadn't expected. Kyle gave a small, lopsided smile, his eyes softening as he stood back up. "Get home safe," he said, before turning on his heel and breaking into a run toward his apartment.
Mayu watched him go, the rain still falling around her, but the cold didn't seem to sting as much now. As she clutched the jacket tighter around her, her heart beat faster. She was flattered, more than she'd ever let him know. As Kyle disappeared from view, she found herself whispering, "Thank you..." again, this time a little louder, though he was already gone.
