Chapter 21 - The Day Her world Changed

Screams echoed throughout the land as people ran in pure terror of the battle that was going on but this girl couldn't move.

Smash!!!! Rubble began to fall towards the girl as a man came crashing through it. But before it could hit the girl something had stopped it.

"Maybe move please. This shit isn't light kid." A man says while holding up the rubble.

The girl who is terrified looks up to see a man with long, wavy white hair that reached his shoulders. Dark blue eyes, wearing a trench coat that was custom fit to go over his knight armor.

"I can't.. I'm scared." The girl says with tears going down her face.

The man extends one of his hands while holding the debris with the other.

"I'm not going to be able to hold this forever so let's go." He replies while holding his hand out.

The girl takes a second but then takes his hand, without any hesitation he pulls her away from the wall and tossed her aside.

Crash!!!! He threw the debris to the side before heading over to her.

"Are you okay? You need to head away from here as fast as possible." The man says while kneeling next to her.

"Yes.. who are you?" She questions with tears in her eyes.

He takes a second to wipe the tears from her eyes as he looks at her with a smile.

"I'm Haru, I'm here to stop the demon lords army from killing everyone. So I need you to go somewhere safe." Haru says while patting her head.

"But what about my horn, you don't think I'll hurt anyone..?" She replies with a bit of fear and nervousness in her voice.

"No. You seem like you have a good heart. Even if no one believes it, remember that a hero told you otherwise. I'll always believe it." Haru responds before standing up.

Drawing the blue sword once again, he dashed back out within seconds towards the left hand once again.

"Haru." The mumbled to herself as she got up and started running.

That name stuck with her as she ran and ran while the battle waged in behind her.

(Present time. Inside the temple.)

"To think you'd be alive still after all this time is good but I can't believe I have to train with you again after all this shit." Sorakami says with an annoyed tone.

Not my fault the demon Lord's left hand screwed up so much shit for me but I'm glad that I could learn everything that I need to once again.

Haru took notice of Mai standing over by the wall with tears going down her cheeks as the conversation died down.

"We can start training tomorrow. You two get settled in for today." Sorakami mentions before disappearing into another room.

After Sorakami left the room he went over to Mai and tried to figure out what was going on with her all of a sudden.

"Everything okay Mai?" Haru questions with a confused look on his face.

"I.. I never thought I'd run into you again." Mai responds while wiping her tears.

I don't know what's gotten into her all of a sudden, we've only just met not that long ago so I don't get what's going on here.

"You saved my life years ago and I don't know why it took me so long to remember it but I'm the girl from back then." Mai says while trying to calm herself down.

Flashes from back then began to go through Haru's head, bits and pieces from the day he saved her from the debris before fighting.

"You're all grown up. My memory isn't all here from that day but I'm glad you took what I said to heart. I still mean it." Haru replies with a smile on his face.

"The scar is from the left hand isn't it? I've been with a hero this whole time and I didn't even remember you, the man who saved me from certain death when all hope was lost." Mai begins to say as she fell to her knees.

I didn't take it to heart since I didn't even remember myself but I get why it'd be pretty upsetting to think about. Forgetting someone who saved your life is a pretty big deal but I think I've saved lots of people in my opinion.

"Yeah. No need to be upset about it. The curse placed on me by the left hand caused a lot of people to forget about my existence." Haru explains while taking a seat next to her.

The dreaded curse that caused everyone to forget my existence was something that I didn't expect to effect her. Considering the fact that demons knew of me, I'm surprised she forgot but I guess she is half human it seems.

Sorakami remembers me though, how is that possible?

"I wondered for years how the hero was doing that saved me but I couldn't remember anything about you until Sorakami and you spoke. It all came to me." Mai responds while holding her hands over her knees.

I haven't really met anyone in years who could remember me so having two people who do that aren't trying to kill me is kind of nice for once.

I'm going to make everyone remember me no matter what and this time it'll be a way bigger achievement.

"It's okay. I'll fix everything in time. I'm going to get stronger here though, then it's time to finish off the demon lord and her new armies." Haru speaks with a bit of confidence.

I'm going to become the second SS class and wipe out the demon lord myself. Sorakami is going to help me and after that I need to make my way to find the generals once again.

Finding them was the quickest way to get information on the hands before fighting the main demon themselves. She probably doesn't expect me to show myself again since she established our differences in strength.

I'll make sure she's happy to see me again.
