My thoughts were overwhelming me with the potential to see my sister but I knew it wasn't a possibility right now. I even ignored the woman asking what we wanted, wow.
"We'll both just have an ale. Surprise us." Mai responds to the woman with a kind tone in her voice.
I guess it's good Mai is here so that way it didn't come off as rude for me to ignore her like that.
"You okay?" Mai asks with a concerned tone.
"Yeah. Just thinking about everything that's happened." Haru responds while looking around the room.
Haru continued to listen in to the conversations around the room as the woman brought them their drinks. The room mostly talked about the rise in demon appearances and how the quests are being given now.
Demons appearing more meant that the war was potentially on the rise to start once again for the first time in years.
"You hear everything going on right?" Haru asks while looking at Mai.
"Lots of talks about demons. It appears that quests are becoming more centered around them which is good for money but bad since it means the second war is on the horizon." Mai responds.
She took in about everything that I did which is good but that just means the chaos is beginning after all. Everything we've dealt with up until we got here was a sign but this just about confirmed it.
The demon lord is getting ready to return and he'll probably be as strong as ever. Damn guy didn't even show up to fight me after his left hand died but I know it'll be different this time.
Killing him myself will truly put my name in the history of the lands forever.
"Seems we've heard the same thing. We really do need to find this hero you spoke of." Haru says before taking a drink of his ale.
Afterwards the two of them got some rest in the inn for the night before setting out to travel once again. Haru still wasn't used to having someone traveling with him but right now it was worth it.
Slowly starting to learn more about how it is to have a companion he was unsure if it was something he liked or not.
"I only slept next to you the other night because it gets cold and I also still have some nightmares about things." Mai speaks up while sitting on the bed across from Haru.
I completely forgot about that until she brought it up, but I guess it wasn't too bad for me to make it a problem.
"It's fine. Not like I usually experience that so you have nothing to worry about." Haru responds before laying back on his bed.
It was definitely interesting having warmth from someone else for the night but it's not something I should be troubling myself with. Having someone to worry about makes it harder to deal with the things that are important.
Another reason I preferred traveling by myself for so long, yet here I am traveling with a half demon of all people. I don't see what's wrong with them though, she's been on my side each time so far.
"Thank you for understanding Haru. Goodnight." Mai says with a bit of happiness in her voice.
"Goodnight Mai." Haru responds before closing his eyes.
The night had gone by without any sort of issues and Haru was once again joined by Mai overnight. Waking up to her next to him was something he didn't bother worrying about.
I'm starting to wonder if she's doing this on purpose or not just to mess with me but I'll see what happens for now. The sun was shining into the room at this point so it's about time to wake up.
Sitting up in bed and quietly moving past Mai, Haru decided to get ready before she woke up. It only took a few minutes of him packing up before she woke up.
"Trying to leave without me again?" Mai asks while stretching.
"Not at all. I just don't like to be behind." Haru answers while grabbing his bag.
I can't really leave her behind since she knows where to go right now and I don't.
"Well let me put my gear on and then I'll be ready to go." Mai says while getting out of bed.
(Outside the inn.) A few minutes later.
People were all heading different directions while talk about what would happen next and what heroes are getting involved. No specific descriptions were mentioned about the heroes .
Just that they were already getting involved with the demons and were the ones to notify the king and the guild.
"We just need to keep heading north. I remember the place being a bit past Shadow Moore." Mai says while looking ahead.
"I'm following you." Haru responds while beginning to follow her.
Mai continued to lead the way towards the potential hero they were looking for, a few days had passed since they first left the inn.
Reaching the outskirts of Dethen, the desert region of the continent. It was a few days of traveling by foot from Shadow Moore, and roughly a day or so by horse or carriage.
Barren desert was all around them with nothing in sight but old buildings that had fallen apart.
"I haven't seen the desert of Dethen in a long time. The Kingdom itself isn't that far from here but what are we looking for exactly?" Haru says before asking his question.
Dethen was a place most avoided because of the heat and lack of cover for anything. Any sort of attacks here are in the wide open which is why it's such a bad place to be in.
"There was an old temple that he used to reside in but I'm not sure if he's still there." Mai answers while taking a look around.
I hope she really does know where she's going here.
"Okay." Haru responds with a bit of a confused expression on his face.
She was so confident until we got here that the hero would be there but she doesn't sound it anymore.
