The car jolted over a bump in the road, and I clutched Asher tighter, as if I could shield him from the horrors chasing us.
Kiera sat in the back seat, arms crossed, her gaze darting between me and Jared. Her silence was deafening, her presence a reminder of how much had changed. But she wasn't the only thing I was trying to process.

I glanced at him, his hands gripping the steering wheel like it was the only thing keeping him tethered to reality. The sight of him brought back flashes of memories I'd thought I'd lost forever. His touch, his laugh, the way his voice had once felt like home. My chest tightened as everything came flooding back—our love, our promises, and the betrayal that tore us apart.
Now, here he was, driving us to safety, acting like he hadn't broken me.
"We're almost there," Jared said, his voice cutting through the thick tension. "The pack house is secure. Xaden won't get past the defenses."
