"Good morning!" I threw open the curtains of Kyle's private hospital room, letting the morning light flood in. He'd had a really close call, taking on his entire family alone and enduring a second surgery. It was pure luck that things weren't a lot worse for him at the moment, and the doctor made sure I knew that.
"Depends on who you ask. Close that curtain, it's too bright," Kyle grumbled, immediately covering his face with his hands.
"You can't keep shutting out the world, baby," I said, trying to coax him gently. Despite his efforts to maintain a tough exterior, recovery had not been easy on him at all. He was definitely struggling to keep up that strong front, and recently, he'd been lashing out more because I could walk better than him at the moment. He hated feeling weak; that much I knew for sure.
Another thing he was worried about was his face.
