Chapter 7 - A Second Chance

The whole situation was just too ridiculous.

A key, a mysterious letter, and a random check showing up at his parents' grave?

'Is someone playing a prank on me? Where are the cameras?'

He walked in circles like a confused puppy, suddenly suspicious after spotting a bush that looked a little too big.

He walked behind it, crouching low like a spy, then jumped out and pointed

"Aha! Gotcha!"

Nothing.

He straightened up, scratched his head, and tapped his right foot on the ground.

"Come on, I know you're out there! Is this one of those pranks shows where a beautiful lady suddenly confesses to me and tells me that she came from the future?"

He even peeked into a flowerpot, half-expecting a tiny camera to be nestled among the petals.

'Are they using drones?' he muttered, tilting his head up.

But within seconds, his eyes ache.

'It burns!' he yelped, recoiling and rubbing his eyes like he'd just been hit with pepper spray.

He groaned, realizing how ridiculous he must've looked.

"Maybe this thing is real?" Luck wondered aloud, scratching his head.

Even if his IQ had taken a nosedive from years of consuming junk foods and gaming sessions, he wasn't that dense.

No camera crew, no hidden pranksters, not even a suspicious person—just him, his parents' tombstone, and that mysterious key and letter.

'Speaking of the letter...' his voice trailed off as he glanced back at the paper in his hands.

The series of numbers scribbled at the bottom caught his attention.

It wasn't just any random code—it looked like a GPS coordinate.

'I should check it out,' he muttered while pulling out his phone.

His fingers, steady as ever when it comes to gadgets, tapped the numbers into the map app.

The app loaded, and he stared at the screen, blinking a few times.

'Wait... this is a bit far but not so far that it would be a hassle.'

The location was just outside Tokyo, and he had to ride a few buses to get there.

But if he took the bullet train, he would arrive in an hour and a half.

'How much is the fare again?' he mused, glancing at the ticket app on his phone.

"Seventeen thousand yen... that's about 115 USD! This is daylight robbery!" he exclaimed in shock, realizing just how high the cost of living in his country.

At this rate, his 150,000 yen would be gone in no time.

He stared at the screen, mulling his options.

The check might cover his rent and living expenses for a month or two, but after that, he'd be right back at square one.

Still broke. Still aimlessly wandering through life.

'Maybe trying this out isn't such a bad idea. It's not like I have a lot of options left.'

He glanced back at his parents' tombstone, feeling comfort in the thought that they would want him to do something more with his life.

The money and inheritance could mean a chance—a shot at something different.

But at the same time, he felt that just following this strange letter was a bit risky and idiotic, yet there was something about the key that made him want to investigate further.

With a nod, he tucked the envelope and pocketed the key, feeling its weight against his thigh.

'Alright, GPS, show me the way '

Luck took his first step but paused midway.

'Hold on a second. I should cash this check first. I need the money to buy bus tickets,'

He gave up on riding the bullet train because he was a beggar that could not afford it.

After a quick search on his phone, he spotted a bank three kilometers away.

'Let's see if this check is legitimate,'
