"What exactly am I trying to do here?" Kai's mind screamed at him while he was midway through trying to dodge the machine.
It only barely succeeded in saving his life though, since his foot was still caught in its path, his vision blurred and his sense of direction was tossed as many times as he spun after the machine caught him midair.
A win was a win though, and Kai was back on his foot again as soon as he stopped spinning, leaping with a huff and landing on his good foot while trying to assess the damage he had suffered, pointless as that was.
"Come here boy!" The demon roared, diving at Kai with its good arm and missing when the teen turned towards the hole the machine had left in the wall and leapt through. "I will have your head!!" It screeched, opening its mouth wide and regurgitating a mound of human fingers it had claimed since breaking into the facility. "Come back to me, Kai Mora!"
"I gotta get out of here!" Kai began running down the hall, not minding the dozens of bodies he was seeing strung across the walls. "Ava," Kai stopped and ducked flat to the ground at a four-way intersection , making a loud sputtering sound when his stomach hit the bloody floor. "She's this way."
Kai slipped once getting up, and once more after standing, finding it increasingly hard to keep his footing after losing his momentum. Unluckily for him, this was not the case with his pursuer who was easily able to sink its claws into the ground for maximum traction.
For a moment, it seemed like he'd be able to escape the creature, but Kai found the reality of his situation far more grim when the large clawed hand of the demon locked around his torso and slammed him into the wall, leaving cracks and causing the lights above him to flicker and then burst.
"H-Hey, let's make a deal." Kai lowered his hands from the back of his head after protecting his skull, staring up into the face of the demon as it slowly chuckled and loomed closer to him.
"I will use your body as my new arm, you will make a fine replacement, the Red One can deal with me all he wishes later," The creature chuckled, opening its mouth over Kai's head and clamping down.
"Seriously, l-let's talk this through, aren't you gonna get rewarded for taking me to your king?" Kai had one hand on the upper and his other on the lower jaw of the beast, struggling with all his might to prevent his head from getting bitten off.
"Killing you is worth a thousand rewards, vessel, your blood will enrich and empower me beyond anything the selfish Red One would have done!" It spoke over his head. "Just die quietly here where there is no witness, nobody will ever know-"
The silent halls echoed and the blood-drenched walls and floors rippled when a gun was fired.
"He is the hope of mankind's evolution, do you mind just going back to hell for a while so I can continue my research?" Kai heard the doctor's voice while the pressure of the Demon's bite slowly lessened until it raised its head and looked behind itself.
"Idiot, I went through all of that so you wouldn't die and you do something like this?" Kai grunted holding on to the hand of the demon and twisting himself like a contortionist, getting free and punching the creature in its knee when it was still paying him no heed.
"Kai, the cells are straight ahead, if you want to meet up with Ava then-" The doctor only managed to fire off one more shot before she became another addition to the wall, skewered thrice through her chest with the gun slowly slipping from her grasp and her legs shaking as her pain rapidly turned into numbness.
"I already know where Ava was you fucking moron, don't you think that it would be dead if guns could kill it?" Kai took off running down the hall while the demon was busy staring at the doctor. "Fuck!" He tried running faster, but he had no traction.
"Kai Mora!" The Bat-headed beast shrieked once more, catching up to him in the blink of an eye and opening its palm over his torso to grab him, but it was surprised when only Kai's bloody shirt was left in its grasp while he continued sloppily running down the hallways. "Come back!"
"I need to get off this slippery-" Kai's thoughts were dramatically interrupted amidst him leaping and turning, catching the creature's hand by the thumb and middle finger when it tried snatching him again.
"You will not escape a third time!!" The demon began sprinting down the hall at breakneck speeds, causing the blood and white decor to look like a blur of crimson as it continued gaining momentum with every step it took while Kai's feet slid across the ground.
The tiles were uprooted, the doors and windows they were passing rattled and broke, a distance that should have taken a few minutes to walk was covered in a few seconds, and Kai's vision flickered to and from shades of darkness when he collided into a wall getting pushed right through to the other side.
"Kai!" Ava shrieked as soon as she saw him, his feet slapped against the ground, and the demon was so focused on him that it completely ignored Ava and Andrew when it started pushing Kai once more, gaining speed again rushing towards another wall and slamming Kai into it with another roar.
"Wh... what the fuck was that?" Andrew slowly released Ava's hand and turned in the opposite direction preparing to run away, but the girl had already been on her way towards Kai as soon as he passed her.
"O-Oi, Ava, this isn't the time to mess around..." Andrew stared at the floor and the many rips and indentures the demon's legs had made while it pushed Kai. "Ava!"
"Run away if you want!" She shouted back at him, gaining slight traction by using the tears in the floor as footholds. "I go where he goes!"
"I thought she'd changed, at least a little," Andrew shook his head, but the dawning revelation that he was now alone in a bloody facility with god knows how many more hellish abomonations, made him start to shiver, so with a straightened back and stiffened shoulders, he began walking in the direction the three had gone.
"Maybe... this way I can find someplace safe and hide."
"Is this actually a mob like the ones that were following me, or is it some kind of high ranked demon?" Kai began wondering when he hit one more wall, grunting and coughing while he held on to the hand with all his strength, waning as it was.
"There's no way they're all this strong, right?" He asked, raising his knee into the creature's chin when it tried biting him again and then kicking it several more times, thankful that he had managed to force it to sever its arm as that was the only reason he was still alive.
"You cunning little shit!" The demon growled, pulling backwards and slamming him into the wall several more times in an attempt to weaken and soften him for consumption.
"One of my few redeeming qualities!" Kai kicked the demon in its face again, preparing himself when he felt his weight shift forward and then rapidly backwards, he had no idea how many other walls he had been forced through after the first all he was sure of was that this one was considerably more sturdy than the others as he was repeatedly slammed against it.
"Die! Die! Die! Die!!" The demon cackled watching Kai slowly lose consciousness with every new crack and every grunt he made when being used as a batton against the concrete, but right when it felt the pressure of his grip lessen the wall finally caved, and cold air washed across them as they both fell outside into a heavy downpour.
"Outside, again." The demon raised its head, looking at the rainclouds above and then down at Kai, except...
There was no Kai.
What it did see was a motorcycle flying towars it and from the awkward angle it had fallen, when it tried standing to protect itself, its foot got caught in the rubble and it tripped again getting bludgened with a bike in the side of its head.
"You!" The demon raised its torso and turned to the rubble attempting to free itself, but Kai grabbed a parking sign rooted in the ground, yanking it free with a roar and smashing the asphalt bit into the creature's head, creating a dent as it staggered and flashed itself, groaning in pain.
"Don't think for a second that you will-" The demon was shut up when Kai spun the sign and swung it again roaring, and then watching with a huff of satisfaction as the arm he had aimed at was broken and rendered useless, causing the demon to screech and turn its voice to the skies, wailing.
"Go back to hell, demon, and send a message to your precious bretheren!" Kai locked his hands around the creature's neck by hooking his fingers and standing firmly behind it while it went still.
"Kai Mora belongs to nobody, I am nobody's vessel, come all you want, I will kill every last one of you!" He ground his teeth as he began tightening his grip, listening to the satisfying gargling the monster made until it stiffened and then went limp when the neck vertebrae snapped.
"Kai!" Ava came running and stopping just on the other side of the wall, staring at his beatened state, the beast dead at his feet, and then at the buildings burning behind him in the city. "What's going on?" She asked.
"Isn't it obvious?" He turned his back while the black marks slowly disappeared and the steam rising from his body lessened.
In the far of the city, people could be heard screaming and wailing, but what stood out beyond any building was a large tower of rotating flames reaching into the clouds while standing still; a gate.
"It's the Apocalypse, Ava."
