"You're not just a loose end," she said, her voice calm but laced with urgency. "You're the missing piece he needs to complete this puzzle."
I stared at her, my mind struggling to keep up with her words. "What are you talking about? I don't know anything about Gideon's plans, and I certainly don't have what he needs."
Marissa shook her head. "Not consciously, perhaps. But your family's legacy holds the key—literally and figuratively. That black box, the deeds, the photograph… they're just the surface. Your father's secrets go much deeper."
Miguel's hand rested lightly on my arm, his touch grounding me. "What exactly are you saying?" he demanded, his tone sharper than mine.
Marissa gestured to the maps and documents scattered across the table. "Your father built an empire on more than hard work and smart investments. He made deals, alliances… some of which came at a great cost. Gideon's family was one of them."
