Chapter 16 - 16: Dangerous Existence

After a while, the sound of an electric current buzzed through the air, causing Ning Shu's head to feel numb. "It can be exchanged with points, but Host currently has no points, so Host cannot trade for a manual."

It felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her. As expected, there was nothing free in this world.

Still, she refused to give up. "I only ended up in this world because of your mistake. The task is so difficult; shouldn't I receive some compensation?"

The system responded in its usual monotonous tone, "The reason Host ended up in this world was due to a problem with the system program, not because of me."

Ning Shu felt like coughing up blood. It was just a system, and yet here she was, trying to bargain with it. Her brain must have short-circuited.

With that option crossed off, Ning Shu felt a wave of frustration and couldn't help but feel a little depressed.

Meanwhile, Ling Xue, sitting in front of Ning Shu, had become flustered the moment the system appeared. She felt as if something incredibly powerful had locked onto her.

Ling Xue panicked. How could this world have such a dangerous existence? It wasn't possible! She shuddered, cold sweat trickling down her back.

Cultivators have keen senses, and Ling Xue had always been especially lucky in this world. Every misfortune seemed to turn into a blessing, and everything had gone smoothly for her since she arrived. She hadn't encountered a single thing that unsettled her—until now.

What was it? What the hell was it!? Ling Xue gritted her teeth and scanned her surroundings but found nothing out of the ordinary. Perhaps it was just her imagination.

Yet, the feeling was undeniable. Ling Xue felt like she was on the brink of losing her mind.

When the system finally vanished, both Ning Shu and Ling Xue collapsed over their desks, drained. Ning Shu was mentally exhausted from her failed negotiation, while Ling Xue had been on edge the whole time due to the perceived threat. Now that it was gone, her body relaxed, but her face remained pale.

A shadow of fear had taken root in Ling Xue's heart. Her limbs felt weak. To put it bluntly, she had been scared stiff.

Of course, Ning Shu had no idea that her brief conversation with the system had terrified Ling Xue so much.

Her own concerns were now shifting back to her tasks.

The bell signaling the end of class rang. As soon as the blond, blue-eyed teacher left the room, An Rong rushed over and kicked Ning Shu's desk, which slid forward and hit Ling Xue sitting in front.

The desk struck Ling Xue square in the back. Ning Shu's eyes widened in disbelief. This had nothing to do with her! As for An Rong, her face turned pale.

Ling Xue abruptly stood up and slammed her hand onto her desk, shattering it instantly. She glared coldly. "Do you want to die!?"

The oppressive aura she released sent An Rong crashing to the floor. Ning Shu, thinking quickly, had already dropped to the ground, escaping the brunt of the aura.

Under the weight of Ling Xue's murderous presence, An Rong's body trembled uncontrollably. Her nose began to bleed, her teeth chattered, and then her eyes rolled back as she fainted.

The classroom erupted in chaos. Only then did Ling Xue snap out of her fury, quickly retracting her oppressive aura. She felt irritated—her earlier sense of danger had left her unnerved.

In a moment of distraction, something had hit her back, and she'd lost control. As a cultivator, she followed her emotions freely, and suppressing her anger wasn't her way.

In this world, nothing had ever provoked her anger before, which was why she usually carried herself with an aloof indifference, looking down on ordinary people.

But that strange sensation from earlier had stirred something uncontrollable inside her.

When Ling Xue saw the fearful faces of the students staring at her, she grew even more annoyed. Without bothering to explain or check on the unconscious An Rong, she pressed her lips into a thin line, maintaining her cold, detached expression.

She cast a glance at Ning Shu, who was still lying on the floor without a shred of dignity, and a flash of murderous intent flickered in her eyes.

Ning Shu was baffled. She hadn't been the one to kick the desk—so why was Ling Xue glaring at her like that? The female lead sure was unpredictable, always deciding things her way.
