Heads-up before reading!
This is a fanfiction that features some of my OCs from the novel "A Tamia's Tale" and a lot of characters from different media (notably Monster Girl Quest, of course) taking place in the modern world. Don't read too much into it, it's mostly for shits and giggles and to help me progress as a writer. Also, the premise in which my OCs are is just an excuse to have more fun, don't worry about it.
Also, yeah my OC is named Luka but has nothing to do with MGQ's Luka, sorry about that if that confuses you (I hope it doesn't)
I hope you'll have as much fun reading it as I had writing it!
Smoke rose from his hot chocolate cup as he scrolled through the news on his phone. The small room that doubled as his office was dimly lit by the soft glow of his screen and the occasional flicker from a worn-out desk lamp. He yawned deeply. It was 11:00 AM, but for Luka, it was just the beginning of his day. The past month had been unnervingly quiet, too quiet for the moment, and he worried whether something horrible might come soon.
Adjusting his earpiece, he listened closely to what the person at the end of the line had to say.
"Nope, nothing on my own end either." the voice came through with the steady clicks of a keyboard in the background. "Seriously, Luka, you should just boot a game and relax. You're wasting your time for something that's probably not coming."
The young detective let out a low chuckle, sipping his chocolate. "Yeah, but we never know when someone might barge in here. Didn't you tell me that you noticed some magic in the air recently?"
"Yes, but that could mean anything. It could even be an error on my part."
"Nah, you rarely make mistakes, Nina," Luka said, shaking his head. "This isn't your style."
From the other end of the earpiece, he could hear her chuckle. "You're right. Still, try to relax."
"But I am relaxed," he answered, taking once more a sip from his cup.
In a completely different world, a white figure dressed in a cape and a hat was running for its life. She took a panicky glance at her ticking pocket watch.
"I'm running late, I'm running late!"
To meet Alice and Luka and assist them with the next steps, the so-called "White Rabbit" had unintentionally opened the wrong portal. Rather, she arrived into a world filled with dangerous creatures eager to make her their lunch.
As grotesque as it was, the big lizards still closed in behind her. She found herself shouting over her shoulder in an attempt to calm them down. "I swear I'm not delicious!"
But why was she running if she could open portals through dimensions? Because she forgot to close the last one leading directly to this world.
And she was running directly towards it. "Okay, switch the coordinates from JP31993 to Luka… There!" she muttered, fingers shaking as she managed to reset the location. She leaped through the portal in extremis, just as the beasts were about to bite her head off.
"Wait! I've got a huge energy spike near you!"
"Hm?" Luka mumbled, still half focused on his cup of hot chocolate.
He barely had a second to react before a glowing rift tore open right in front of him, splitting his desk clean in half.
"WHAT THE F—" Luka shouted, springing backward in pure panic, spilling his hot chocolate all over the floor in the process. His chair tumbled over as he scrambled to get some distance.
"Are you okay? What happened?"
Before he could answer, a white blur shot out from the portal and landed gracefully on the floor in front of him.
"Ta-da!" the white rabbit exclaimed in an unnervingly cheerful tone. "Were you expecting… Expecting… Eh?"
She blinked, her confident smile fading as she glanced around the room. Her ears twitched in confusion. This wasn't the familiar continent of Sentora. This warm, dusty office was definitely not what she had in mind.
With an embarrassed expression, she finally looked at the stunned man on the floor.
"Oops, sorry! Wrong world!" she said, feigning to look dumb.
Luka, still on the floor, stared at the remnants of his once-functional desk. "My desk…" He slowly stood up, dusting off his coat, then without hesitation, pulled a small handgun with a crystal instead of a barrel from his jacket. The click of the safety being flicked off echoed in the room.
"You have five seconds to explain what just happened," he said, the barrel aimed directly at her.
The White Rabbit froze, her eyes darting between the gun and Luka's somewhat serious face. "W-Whoa whoa!" she stammered, waving her hands. "Let's not get hasty there! This thing looks far more dangerous than the makinas I'm used to!"
"Four," Luka counted calmly, his finger inching toward the trigger.
"I made a mistake in coming here! I prefer the dinosaurs!" she shouted before jumping back into the portal.
"Hey! Get back he—" Luka started, but his words were cut short as the White Rabbit jumped back in the office, this time while being chased by a small raptor.
The small lizard skidded into the room, its claws scrapping at the flooring as it snapped its jaws menacingly.
Luka's eyes widened, excitement overtaking his fear. "A dinosaur? So cool!"
"A WHAT?" the voice shouted in the earpiece.
"SHOOT IT!" the White Rabbit squealed, diving behind the shattered desk for cover.
The raptor snarled, its reptilian eyes locking onto Luka as it let out a low, menacing hiss, crouching like a predator ready to pounce.
Luka glanced at his gun, then back at the raptor. "But it's a dinosaur!" he exclaimed, still not believing it. "Do you know how this could advance research?"
"Even better dead! Just do it!" Nina's voice crackled.
The raptor took another step forward, its tail whipping from side to side as it prepared to spring. "Sorry, little one…" Luka sniffed.
He aimed carefully, the barrel steady in his grip. His finger squeezed the trigger, and the shot rang out, echoing in the ruined office. A magical bullet erupted from the gun, glowing faintly as it cut through the air.
The bullet hit its mark, piercing through the raptor's skull as easily as if it were slicing through butter. The creature let out a single, pained screech before collapsing to the floor in a heap, its body twitching once before going still.
Luka exhaled slowly, lowering the gun. "Poor thing…"
The White Rabbit peeked up from her hiding spot, her big eyes wide as she noticed the wound of the now-dead raptor. "I knew your gun was dangerous!"
"Well yeah, it shoots concentrated energy," Luka glared at her as he explained, "Like a blaster." His workplace was a jumble, and his drink had spilled, leaving a subtle chocolate odor in the air.
"Um, well… Thanks for not shooting me."
Luka sighed and put back the gun in his jacket. "I'm still not convinced otherwise."
"Luka, are you okay?" Nina's voice crackled through the earpiece. "How is your office?"
He glanced at the mess around him. "I've got a dead dinosaur in my office, a broken desk and I spilled my chocolate," he muttered. "Otherwise, I'm fine."
The White Rabbit, having recovered her composure, dusted off her pristine white cape. "Ah, I see," she giggled. "I said this was not where I intended to go, but I still stumbled upon a Luka," she winked like this was all part of a prank.
The detective crossed his arms. "A Luka? What do you mean by that?"
"Oh, well," she twirled a finger in the air, "You see, I was supposed to help Alice and Luka back in my world, but I opened the wrong portal. Silly me!"
Luka's eyebrow twitched. "Don't 'silly me' me! You brought a fucking dinosaur to my office and trashed the place!" he gestured wildly at the mess.
"And seriously, a white rabbit helping Alice? What is this, a storybook?"
The White Rabbit pouted, tilting her head. "Well… You're maybe right." She gave an apologetic smile, clearly not taking his frustration seriously. "It's not the same Alice you're thinking of. It's a bit more naughty!"
Luka exhaled slowly, rubbing his temples. He knew the night was just starting but he wasn't prepared for that. "I don't care. Just get back to your world before something else jumps out of that portal."
As soon as the words left his mouth, a shrill cry exploded from his earpiece, nearly deafening him.
"Alice and a White Rabbit? Is this MGQ?"
Luka winced, pulling the earpiece away from his ear. "Holy crap Nina!" he shouted. "You almost destroyed my ear!"
The White Rabbit perked up, her ears twitching in interest. "It seems this world has some connection to ours. Though I believe it's more of a game here."
Luka glared at her, more confused than ever. "I don't care. Just close the damn portal."
"Alright, alright, no need to get your fur in a twist!" With a snap of her fingers, the portal began to flicker. "Portal closing in three, two—"
Before she could finish, there was a loud thud from the other side of the portal, the sound reverberating ominously. Luka barely had time to react before a brilliant flash of light erupted from the portal. The scenery behind it morphed in an instant, shifting from an otherworldly rift to the grand stone walls of a castle.
"...one," the White Rabbit finished with a casual tone, completely oblivious to the danger.
But it was too late.
In a fraction of a second, a glowing figure shot out from the portal with terrifying speed. Luka's eyes widened in horror as the blur collided with the White Rabbit, knocking her clean off her feet. The impact was so powerful that a sword flew from the collision, plating itself on the floor right near Luka.
The next thing he knew, the White Rabbit's head was rolling across the floor.
Her decapitated body crumpled to the ground in a heap, while the figure responsible for the gruesome act landed head first into the wall, groaning in pain.
Luka stood frozen, his mind trying to process this sudden turn of events.
"I heard a noise, what happened?" Nina's voice came through, making Luka come back from the shock.
The man blinked, staring at the headless corpse of the White Rabbit. His eyebrow twitched nervously as cold sweat began to bead on his forehead.
"We… we lost the only way to close the portal…"
The barely naked glowing figure groaned in pain, as it tried to get its head off the wall.
"And now there's some kind of succubus with blue hair…" he continued, looking at the intruder. "She had a sword too."
With a loud, almost comical pop, the succubus finally freed herself from the wall, sending a cloud of dust into the already trashed room. Luka could now see the barely clothed woman with blue long twin tails swinging behind her, low wings attached to her back, slightly darker horns, and finally her glowing blue eyes.
The ornate sword she had been carrying had slipped out of her grasp during the collision and was now embedded in the floor near Luka's feet. She looked down at it, then at the White Rabbit's corpse, and finally at the young man.
"Hey, you!" she snapped, "Get me my sword."
Luka glanced down at the weapon, admiring the craftsmanship. The sword was beautifully made, its hilt encrusted with jewels, and it had an almost otherworldly glow. He figured it would fetch a hefty price at a pawn shop. But despite the allure of the blade, his attention quickly shifted back to the succubus herself. There was something more pressing on his mind.
"I know the room is quite warm but…" he trailed off, sizing her up from head to toe, taking in the minimal clothing. "Aren't you cold?"
The succubus went wide-eyed. "Are you freaking kidding me? That's the first thing you have to say?"
She quickly brushed the dust off her body and stood up with a sadistic grin, her hands starting to glow with a blue aura.
"Heh, whatever. You should've run away. I'll have to clean the evidence that I did something bad, or else I'll get in trouble," the succubus sneered, her hands glowing with a blue aura that quickly wrapped itself around Luka, enveloping him in a light glow.
Luka's body twitched involuntarily in response, but instead of panic, he just blinked, mildly curious.
"Hm? That tickles," he muttered with a playful tone.
"Ahah! Get fucked los—" the succubus began, but her triumphant grin quickly faltered into a confused frown as she watched the man in front of her remain completely unbothered.
Luka raised an eyebrow, his body still glowing but unfazed. "I mean, it's kinda useful when you don't have a lamp. Bit too flashy though…" He looked at his glowing skin with amusement.
"What the fuck is this?" she cried, shaking her hands frantically as she tinkered with her spell, visibly distressed. "Why isn't it working?!"
"I have bad news and good news, Luka," the voice inside the earpiece interrupted, ignoring the succubus.
The man shrugged, enjoying the tingling sensations. "Okay, hit me up."
"First, the good news," she started. "The portal is going to close soon."
"What?" The succubus screamed in panic, her blue eyes widening. "Shit! I need to get back in there!"
Her wings flared as she frantically glanced at the portal, which had already started to shrink.
"Damn, you have good hearing," Luka commented while pointing at the narrowing rift. "But you might want to hurry up, doesn't look like you've got much time," he added, tossing the ornate sword at her.
She cursed under her breath, catching the sword mid-air. "Just you wait! I'll come back and—"
"Kyukyu!"
Before she could finish her threat, a dark tentacle shot out from the portal with a wet, slithering sound. The voice from the other side echoed menacingly as the tentacle wrapped itself around the succubus's head, yanking her back through the portal.
Once it snapped shut, the room returned to an eerie silence which made Luka's head both hurt and relieved.
"The bad news?" he asked, rubbing his forehead. There was already too much going on but he felt like nothing could be worse.
"There are dozens of portals opening throughout the city as we speak."
Luka chuckled nervously, "You're kidding, right?" It was, in fact, worse.
"I wish I was. Though that was clearly Morrigan earlier, considering the way you described her."
He sighed, looking at the two bodies on the floor. "This is getting out of hand real quick…" He paused, as something Nina had mentioned earlier resurfaced in his mind. "Also, you're going to have to tell me what this 'MGQ' thing is. I think we'll need it."
"Yeah, don't worry," Nina replied, trying to hide her excitement. "Though I would've preferred another game, to be honest."
Luka frowned, realization dawning. "Wait, these were videogame characters?"
"Yup!" Nina replied with far too much cheer for his liking.
"I'm not going to ask how you know that… Let's move on."
"Alright, I'll guide you to the other portals. Hang in there!"
Luka sighed deeply, looking at his destroyed office. "I feel like this is going to be a long night…"
Somewhere far away… On the continent of Sentora, already bothered by Multiversal bullshit.
Near the large city of Grand Noah, Sofia, a lamia faithful to the goddess Ilias had left the pocket castle to talk a metaphorical 'walk' outside.
The sun above was warm, its heat soaking into her scales. The gentle wind danced around her, carrying the scent of wildflowers and distant sea spray. She moved toward a quiet clearing, away from the noise of the world. There, she closed her eyes, intertwining her fingers in a soft, graceful motion. The lamia began chanting a prayer to Ilias, in the hope of finding salvation.
Of course, the exact content of the prayer shall never be revealed as it might be interpreted as sinful.
As the prayer came to an end, Sofia opened her eyes slowly, gazing up at the clear sky. A moment of calm, of quiet reflection, was all she asked for. But fate had other plans.
The portal behind her shimmered into existence without a sound. She was oblivious to the danger forming just steps away. Only the subtle shift in the atmosphere, followed by the faint ruffling of grass, alerted her that something was amiss.
Her ears perked up at the unmistakable metallic scrape of blades being drawn and sharpened.
Sofia's heart skipped a beat. She spun around, instinctively coiling her tail in a defensive stance. There, stepping from the now-fading portal, was an imposing figure—a towering man dressed in a long black cassock, with a green military-style coat draped over it. His slicked-back platinum-blond hair gleamed under the sunlight, and his piercing green eyes locked onto her through his glasses with a zeal that made her blood run cold.
"It seems our lord and savior Jesus Christ had something interesting in store for me today…" the man spoke, his deep voice booming into the clearing as a manic grin spread across his face.
The silver cross dangling from the chain around his neck swayed with each step, catching the light. His glasses gleamed, obscuring his eyes momentarily as he brandished two blessed bayonets, holding them together to form a cross in front of him.
"Amen!" Father Alexander Anderson declared with a maniacal laugh.
Sofia's muscles tightened as the blood drained from her face.
Goddess Ilias… Save me!
This was going to be a good day… For him.
