Chapter 5 - VIOLET'S DOUBLE LIFE

What are you doing here?"he glared at her and she bowed her head lightly, ignoring his previous outburst.

"I'm Violet Wilson and I have been hired as your new secretary, sir." she answered and Adrian scoffed.

"You must be joking." he shook his head, wondering if it was not the same girl who shouted at him the other day.

Violet prayed silently for him not to terminate her employment.

The blackmailer had specifically emphasized that she must get the job. And now that she has gotten it, it won't go down well if she gets fired the same day.

She looked up when she didn't hear any word from Adrian again, only to see him staring at her, his brows furrowed.

"Is there any problem sir?" she asked when he didn't stop staring at her.

"You can go" he muttered. Though he maintained a blank face, Violet was able to detect that his mood had changed, and she wondered why.

"Is there anything you need me to do before leaving sir?" she asked.

"I said you can go!"he snapped and Violet blinked.

"Such a temper" she muttered, but Adrian heard her.

"What did you say?"

"Nothing sir" she said quickly and wanted to leave immediately but Adrian called her back.

"Wait"

She turned, wondering why he called her back since he was the one who had asked her to leave.

"I thought Bryan already informed you of my rules. Why didn't you abide by them?" he asked, but Violet was lost.

"Sir?" she asked.

"Always inform me of my schedules. You were about leaving without even informing me of my next agenda" he growled.

"I just resumed sir, I haven't made any findings about your schedules sir" she answered.

"I won't remind you next time. It takes me nothing to fire you if I find you incompetent" he warned.

"I'm sorry sir" Violet answered. How bad she wanted to put him in his place for bossing her around, but she knows she can dare do that.

Her aim now is to try all her possible best to get him to like her, even though it sounds impossible.

She needs to get close to him enough if she wants to get any information about him.

And with how hot-headed he is, it's going to be an arduous task, but she has to try her best if she wishes to protect her image.

"Now leave" he said, and she went out immediately.

"Why does her face seem so familiar when we've met only once? Even her voice...

I feel like I have met her somewhere else"he thought to himself as he rested his back on the chair.

*

Sasha frowned when she saw a lady coming out of Adrian's office.

She scanned her from head to toe, the face, the body, the way her clothes accentuates her curves and she scoffed, immediately getting jealous for absolutely no reason.

She suddenly stopped in front of Violet who almost bumped into her.

"Next time, watch where you are going" Sasha sneered.

"You were the one who walked into me. I wasn't expecting you to do that and that's why I bumped into you" Violet said, wondering why this lady was glaring at her.

"Who are you? And what were you doing in his office?" Sasha asked, her hands on her waist.

Violet sighed inwardly.

She wanted to ignore her, but when she noticed how the other workers around them were solely concentrated on their work, trying to look busy, she concluded that the person in front of her must be someone important.

"I'm the new secretary of the C.E.O. I was just employed today" Violet answered.

"No wonder you don't know your place" Sasha rolled her eyes and hissed before going towards Adrian's office.

"What was that?" Violet asked herself. She didn't see any tag on her dress, so it's possible she isn't working here.

"So who the hell is she?" she wondered.

ADRIAN'S OFFICE,

Sasha entered and dropped her bag on Adrian's table.

She is his childhood friend and the only girl close to him, besides his sister.

"I don't like her" She said and sat on the chair opposite him.

"You don't like who?" Adrian asked, confused.

"Your new secretary" she answered, her arms crossed.

Adrian sighed, he was used to her sassy behavior, but he doesn't know the cause for this complaint.

"What did she do?" he asked.

"I just don't like her" she said and Adrian shook his head at her fuss.

"Are you seriously not going to give me a job here?" she asked.

Her father had asked her to take over his business, but she still wants to relax before getting preoccupied.

She's not used to sitting behind a desk and going through files like Adrian.

She knows that if she starts working here, she won't do much work.

"Don't start your whining. Just go work in your dad's place" Adrian answered and continued scribbling on a note.

"Such a workaholic" she rolled her eyes.

Her phone started to ring, she looked at her caller ID, then hissed before dropping it on the table.

It rang again and she switched off her phone.

"Why don't you pick up your call?" he asked.

"It's my stupid ex-boyfriend"

"Ex?" Adrian asked, although not too surprised.

In the span of a year, Sasha has dated three different people.

"Yeah. Ex" she nodded.

"What did this one do? Cheat on you? Broke up with you, or you just fell out of love?" he asked with a knowing look on his face.

"What's with the look? It's not my fault that men are useless"

"Ohh really? You are speaking comfortably to a man right now"

"You are different. You also don't talk extensively with others like this, why are you doing that with me?" she rolled her eyes.

"Very funny" Adrian replied sarcastically.

He and Sasha has been friends for a long time now. Even though he's cold to everyone, she and Bryan are the only people he can comfortably have a conversation with.

"I'm going to a club tonight. Are you coming?" she asked even though she is aware if what his reply would be.

"Come on, loosen up." she teased when he didn't reply her and continued scribbling on his pad.

"Workaholic" she scoffed.

ADRIAN'S ISLAND

Adrian house is located on his island. Yes! His island. As long as money can buy it, Adrian can afford it.

A private paradise, surrounded by crystal clear waters giving the environment a smooth serene, atmosphere.

His grandiose mansion covered much of the island. It looked like a palace with large columns and arches.

A private paradise indeed.

Adrian stood up from the couch and went to the fridge.

Even in casual wears, he looks hot as ever.

He takes a bottle of his favourite strawberry drink, Bert and gulps it down.

His fridge is stocked with it.

It has been his favourite since he was little and doesn't think he can stop taking it.

His mind went back to what Bryan had told him in the office earlier.

EARLIER, IN THE OFFICE

"I couldn't get it" Bryan said as he entered, some files in his hands.

"Get what?" Adrian asked.

"The footage you asked me to retrieve" Bryan answered.

"I checked, but I was unable to find it. It seems like it got deleted" He added.

"Deleted?" Adrian asked, his eyebrows raised.

"Yeah, footage of other days were intact. But I couldn't find any footage captured on that Friday at all. It seemed suspicious" Bryan explained and Adrian frowned.

"That definitely isn't a computer glitch. Someone must have done it deliberately" Adrian said, his eyes dark as he wondered if the girl was sent to him by someone.

"There's something you aren't telling me Adrian.

What exactly happened that day?" Bryan asked.

He had been trying to find out, but Adrian wasn't telling him anything.

"Fine don't talk" He said, annoyed and started leaving when Adrian didn't give him a reply.

"Wait." Adrian called back and Bryan rolled his eyes before turning back.

"I'll tell you..." he paused.

"But don't tease me about it" He said and Bryan grimaced.

"Okay. Just tell me first. I really want to know" he answered, leaning forward.

Adrian heaved a sigh before letting the cat out of the bag.

"I slept with a stranger" he said slowly, his voice barely above a whisper.

Bryan eyes widened, his mouth slightly opened.

He blinked before putting himself together.

"You slept with a stranger? When did you start letting people sleep beside you?" he chuckled.

He concluded that what Adrian was trying to say was that, someone slept beside him.

That's the only reasonable conclusion he could make.

Because the Adrian he knows avoids girls touch like a plague.

And so he's aware that he isn't gay, so...

Adrian sighed, putting his palm on his face.

"Why are you like this?" he hissed.

"Why am I like what? I don't understand"

"Let me put it this way. I had s*x with a stranger. I hope you understand now, dummy" he rolled his eyes.

Bryan stood there frozen, he pinched himself, perhaps he was dreaming.

"Stop being dramatic" Adrian said.

"Tell me you are joking" Bryan said, still not believing his ears.

"I have said it, and I am not repeating my words"

"How? Or was it with a man?" Bryan asked, and Adrian glared at him.

"Hey! That's the only thing coming to my head right now. You had s*x with a girl. Wow! This is shocking" Bryan exclaimed.

"But you hate girls touch. So how?"

"I don't understand either. Though, I was drunk, but I doubt that's the reason.

I have gotten drunk several times and I never lose my composure. But that girl.... I'm clueless" Adrian said.

"Wow! Who's she? Who's this girl that was able to break the ice?"

"That's the thing. I can't remember her face.

It rained that day, my mind wasn't settled. But she just seemed like an haven.

I didn't sleep in that room that night.

I managed to drive myself home." Adrian explained.

"Shit! If you had slept there, you could have seen her face the next morning. The intoxication would have gone"

"Yeah, that was the mistake I made. I was shocked that I slept with her. Dude! I haven't had s*x in years now. It was so shocking"

"I understand. It's more disturbing that the footage was missing."

END OF FLASHBACK;

"Who are you, mystery girl?" Adrian muttered and got himself another drink.
