Before he could answer she went on.

Having acted on a whim to see if Joce was a player, Gordon hadn't thought far enough in advance to come up with a back story for himself. So a little hectically he started thinking about what to say.
It might be easy to say that he was a player, he had the necessary knowledge to at least pass himself off as one. The problem was that his own experience as a player was from before virtual reality was possible. So even if he could talk his way through the play style he didn't know if players had advantages, like tech provided though their headset or immersion capsule. He wouldn't be able to replicate any communication abilities let alone some extra capability granted by the tech they used.
