The taxi she ordered was a minute away, so there was nothing Kelsie could do other than to look around her surrounding.
As she turned her attention away from the gate to the flower bed beside her, she failed to notice a black BMW with the words 'Adler' sprawled across the license plate driving in.
Jett Adler and Daniel Adler sat in the backseat.
Daniel had his hands clasped in-between his legs as he silently fidgeted with his fingers. Despite the air condition in the car, the back of his shirt was soaked with sweat.
His brother hadn't said a word to him since they left the airport and when Jett Adler says nothing in a situation he's supposed to say something, something was bound to happen.
He didn't dare to breathe too loud as he feared he'd remind Jett that he was in the car with him.
As he waited for the car to pull to a stop outside the building, he carefully went over his plan to rush up to his room once they arrived.
He was going over the plan again in his mind when the driver suddenly slammed his foot down on the pedal, hurling him forward.
Daniel didn't bother to ask why he stopped so abruptly and just reached for the doorknob. He was about to push it open when he heard Jett's cold voice.
"We're not in front of the building yet."
Daniel froze and slowly withdrew his hand from the doorknob then looked outside the window.
The driver glanced at Jett through the rear view mirror and apologized immediately.
"Forgive me, Mr. Adler, I didn't expect to see someone standing in your spot."
"What? There's someone standing there? Who could be so bold despite seeing the warning signs pasted all over the wall?" Daniel blurted out in surprise, craning his neck to see who it was.
Jett shifted his attention from the screen of his computer to look at the person. When he saw a lady, he frowned slightly and stared at her for a few more seconds before he recognized her to be the same person who had stood out his spot at the airport.
He tore his eyes away from her and lowered his eyes back to the screen of his computer as he ordered the driver calmly, "Park in front of the building."
"Park in front of the building? If he parks in front of the building, he'd have to hit her and…" Daniel was saying in a bid to reason with him, but the words died in his throat when Jett glanced at him stoically.
The driver nodded and stepped on the pedal again.
After waiting for a full minute, Kelsie had just taken up her phone to call the taxi driver when she suddenly saw a car driving towards her at full speed.
Instantly, she jumped out of the way and watched as it stopped in front of her. The door to the other side opened and a young man who looked to be in his mid-twenties hurried out of it.
The driver got out of the car almost immediately and hurriedly walked around it to open the door for Jett without bothering to mumble a word of apology to her.
Seeing he didn't apologize for almost running into her, she was about to walk towards his employer when she saw a tall and familiar figure alight from the car.
At the same time, a taxi pulled to a stop behind the BMW. When she saw the plate number and recognized it to be the taxi she ordered, she quickly changed directions.
Seeing her run off so fast made a glint of surprise flash past Jett's eyes for a split-second. He definitely heard her cuss him out at the airport when he almost hit her with the door of his car.
Now that his driver almost ran into her, he expected her to do something more than cuss at him, but she didn't even bother to do so and was just running away.
Daniel was about to walk towards the building when he noticed Jett was standing at a spot looking at something intently.
So he stopped and followed his eyes to see what he was looking at. Upon doing so, his eyes lit up immediately. This was the first time he was seeing his brother stare so hard at a woman.
He proceeded to scurry to Jett's side and beamed approvingly.
"You're definitely my brother. I had only seen her side profile, but I can tell you even without seeing what the rest of her face looks like that she is gorgeous."
"If you want to go after her and you need tips on how to do it, you have nothing to worry about because you have me."
"You may not know this, but I'm an expert with women. Point at any woman you want me to take their number and I'll walk up to her do so without revealing who I am."
He kept blabbing with his eyes fixed on the road that he didn't notice when Jett turned and began walking towards the building.
"Big brother, please wait for me!" He quickly yelled after Jett and ran after him.
Meanwhile, the taxi dropped Kelsie in front of the Sutton family gate. For some reason, the gate was left open and there was no security in sight to guard it.
When she got closer to the house, she slipped her hands into her pocket and kept glancing at the various expensive cars in the garage.
It definitely didn't belong to anyone in the Sutton family. The profit from the family business wouldn't be enough to get even the lowest car parked here.
The thought had just formed in her head when she saw a man and woman come out of the house holding hands.
Right. Jerry had mentioned something about a marriage between Laura Sutton and Bryan Baker.
This could be an engagement party for them like the one that was hosted seven years ago for her.
The people who came out of the house left the door ajar and the gentle music being played inside was seeping out.
She slipped into the party and found somewhere to sit in a corner. Then she whipped out her phone and dialed Jerry's number. She called him twice, but both times, her calls all went unanswered.
She leaned her back on the chair and began checking the stock market, totally ignoring the familiar looking girl and her friends who were a table away.
"Goodness, Laura Sutton, you're slowly becoming the woman you said you'd become six years ago."
"I remember six years ago when she told us she'd marry Bryan Baker like she always wanted and we laughed at her."
"I'm glad we didn't have a bet back then. Otherwise, I would've lost a huge chunk of money today."
"I know, right? But let's be honest with ourselves, we didn't for a moment think that someone from such a reputable family like Bryan Baker would settle down with a creature like Kelsie Sutton, did we?"
Laura Sutton was beaming proudly in their midst. She had smiled so much from the flattering of the guests that her cheeks were all flushed and hurting badly.
But she couldn't tell them to stop because she was always ready to hear the hundreds of ways she was way better than Kelsie.
She held up her glass of champagne to her lips and scoffed lightly, "I mean, it was obvious. He made it clear that ugly fatty wasn't his type and it was his wish to marry me."
The boys and girls with her laughed loudly before they nodded in agreement.
"You can't really blame him. You're a hard one to resist. If I was ready to settle down, I'd snatch you away from him without thinking twice."
"Talking about Kelsie, I heard she'd be back for your engagement party today. Don't you fear she'd flip out and pull your hair? Everyone knows she used to be so in love with Bryan Baker back then."
Laura Sutton snorted instantly, "She must've felt really special to be loved by one of those homeless boys on the streets who slept and impregnated her."
"It's only right that she was in love with a handsome man like Bryan after he showed her a little bit of affection."
Her friends laughed again.
"Don't worry, we're here for you, we'll make sure she doesn't get anywhere close to you once she stumbles in here."
"If the four of us won't be able to keep her away from you, we'll be sure to call the boys at the next table."
Laura grimaced and glanced around with a worried look in her eyes, "That reminds me, have you seen Bryan? He said he'd be here before 6."
"I think I saw him in the kitchen." One of the girls pointed out.
"Really? I need to see him." Laura exhaled lightly and got on her feet.
The four people with her did the same, before they all followed her towards the direction of the kitchen.
Just like that, the noise disappeared and Kelsie exhaled in relief. She turned off the screen of her phone and wrapped her arms around her body.
With the noise gone, she decided to make use of this quiet time to nap for a few minutes. She was just about to close her eyes when a familiar face popped into her view.
"Kelsie Sutton?"
