The air stood still as Jerry Sutton stared at the beautiful woman in front of him in disbelief. She was Kelsie?
No, he must've misheard.
He had his eyes pinned on her the whole time that he mistook her words for that of Kelsie's.
It must also be because she answered a call the exact same time that ugly fatso answered his phone call.
After convincing himself that he heard wrong, he shook her words out of his head and spoke into his phone again through clenched teeth.
"Hey, don't mess around? Everyone is already here and waiting for you. Do you think you're someone so important that we all have to wait for you?"
Kelsie almost scoffed. She directly ended the call and stepped away from Bryan Baker.
"I've been here for the past one hour. I'm sure I gave you more than ten missed calls."
Jerry frowned slightly hearing her speak to him again. He tore his eyes away from her and called Kelsie again, but she still ended the call.
After repeating this action three times, blinked in disbelief and raised his eyes to look at her again.
"Are you trying to say you're my daughter Kelsie Sutton and not some goddess she hired to pose as her?"
"What?" Kelsie didn't know when she blurted out.
She parted her lips to continue, but Laura's friends beat her to it in high-pitched voices.
"Is that what happened?"
"Goodness. That ugly thing has become utterly shameless!"
"Did she think none of us would figure it out? She can only become a goddess like this lady in her stream. Don't you agree, Laura?"
However, Laura had her lips pressed tightly against each other as she stared keenly at Kelsie's face with a distant look in her eyes.
She had spent so much time with Kelsie back then just so she could come up with things to ridicule her about in public.
Once she had even snuck a camera into Kelsie's room just so she could get pictures to share to her friends.
Although she didn't succeed in getting the very embarrassing pictures she wanted, she had gotten a view of the multiple rolls of flesh on Kelsie's back.
And right on her collarbone was a huge, black birthmark. Back then, it was hideous, but now, it blended so well with her pale skin that it looked like some intricate tattoo, as if it had always belonged there.
Now that she took a careful look at this woman, she couldn't help but clench her hands into a tight fist when she saw the resemblance between her and the ugly fatso she knew then.
Furthermore, she could clearly see the birth mark on her collarbone. There was no mistaken it now.
She parted her lips and sneered in contempt.
"So it's you. You were called to dissolve what's left of your marriage to Bryan, but instead of doing that, you seduce him on his engagement party to your younger sister? Aren't you ashamed of yourself?!"
Kelsie would've looked puzzled by the sudden accusation if she wasn't used to it.
She was used to this family painting her in a bad light and twisting her actions to make her look bad in front of everyone.
The more she tried to defend herself; the more they twisted her words. So instead of responding to Laura, she turned to Jerry and went straight to the point.
"I've come to dissolve what's left of my engagement to Bryan Baker. Where is the document I'm supposed to sign?"
However, before Jerry Sutton could respond, Laura waltzed to Kelsie's front and scoffed irritably seeing she was being ignored.
"What? Do you think saying you came to sign the document will make everyone here forget you seduced Bryan the moment he walked in here?"
Like expected, her friends rushed to her side again to butt in.
"Kelsie, how shameless can you get? We all know you loved Bryan in the past, but that was in the past, now he's in love with Laura and engaged to her. How could you try to seduce your sister's fiancé?"
"Did you think going under the knife to lose all that weight and to look this pretty would make him change his mind about you?"
"So what if you're now prettier than Laura. He was never in love with you to begin with. And now that he's engaged to Laura, he'd never look your side for any reason."
Laura's eyes darkened hearing the last person. When the person realized what she said, she quickly corrected herself.
"I mean, the only reason he looked at you today is because you seduced him. You're in no way better looking than Laura!"
There was a slight murmuring in the crowd when the last person finished.
"What is she talking about? Kelsie Sutton is clearly the goddess now."
"Laura Sutton may have been the most beautiful of the two sisters in the past, but she clearly doesn't hold a candle to her elder sister now."
"That's not even up for debate, one can see the difference between them from a distance."
Laura clenched her jaw and clenched her fists even tighter, but maintained the subtle look on her face despite the burning rage in her eyes.
In the midst of all this, Bryan stepped towards Kelsie in disbelief.
"You're really Kelsie? The same Kelsie who couldn't move more than five steps without stopping to catch her breath?"
One could hear the admiration in his voice as he spoke.
Deborah Thompson cleared her throat noisily when she saw Bryan was doing nothing to hide how he was feeling.
She feared the next sentence he would make was of him canceling the engagement. So when he opened his mouth to add something else, she quickly beat him to it by lashing out at Kelsie.
"You should've called me when your father didn't answer your calls instead of staying down here with the rest of the guests!"
"Well, since you're already here, then there's no reason to postpone it any longer. Let's go upstairs to sign the document."
Jerry and Laura nodded their heads in agreement, but the moment the three of them turned to leave, they heard Bryan ask in confusion.
"Document? What document?"
Laura immediately turned to him and flashed a toothy smile at him.
"The document? To dissolve the engagement you had with Kelsie in the past. You already signed it six years ago when we found out she was pregnant."
"But for six years she feigned to be busy and refused to return to sign the document. She even refused to have it mailed over to her."
Bryan turned to look at her and raised a questioning brow.
"If she doesn't sign it, I'll remain engaged to her and we'll be able to have a wedding? I'll be able to marry her?"
Laura stared at him reluctantly before she nodded. "Yes, you will. But as soon as she signs it this evening, me and you will be able to hold a…"
She was still speaking excitedly when the man waved his hand at her and interrupted with a note of finality.
"There's no longer any need for her to sign the document since I just made up my mind I'll be marrying her in a week's time."
