Kelsie left a few instructions to the elderly woman before leaving the apartment.
She walked outside the gate and hailed a cab to the said location.
When she got there, she found the building filled to the brim with people.
Usually, it would've remained a small event with just a few people if a lot of competitive companies and people didn't deem it a worthy place to weed out those who were not fit to work for Jett Adler.
Whatever happens tonight will be shared with the rest of the world tomorrow, just so everyone can see who the true number one hacker in Silicon Valley was.
"Kelsie, you're here!" Kelsie suddenly heard someone call out to her when she made it to the hall.
She frowned slightly and gently massaged the space between her brows in exasperation, finding the voice familiar.
Sure enough, when she turned around she found Laura with a group of people.
They were about four of them with her.
Laura had a bright smile on her face and appeared to be beaming at Kelsie, a smile which those with her clearly misinterpreted.
Laura have anything to say, but she saw this contest as an opportunity to show Kelsie the vast difference between them.
Kelsie waited to see if Laura had something to say. When ten seconds passed by without her uttering a word, she tore her eyes away from her and proceeded to eye search the hall.
At this, the people with Laura instantly became offended.
"You treat her with so much respect, but she repays you by trying to snatch your fiancé from you. What a shameless person!"
"If I were you, I wouldn't let her step an inch close to me. Someone with an attitude like hers isn't normal."
However, she hurriedly waved her hand at them and shook her head in refusal, "Don't be like that. No matter what, Kelsie is my sister and besides, he used to be engaged to her in the past and she had great affection for him back then. It's only right that she still feels something for him after all these years."
She spoke so kindly that the people with her felt even more aggrieved and looked at her like a fool for being so unsuspecting of her so called sister.
"You have such a good heart, Laura. She knows that which is why she continues treating you like a fool!"
"If you keep being nice to her, she'll keep wronging you knowing you'll continue forgive her in the end."
"I believe it's only a matter of time before Bryan sees he's making a mistake. Everyone knows the second daughter of the Sutton family has so many talents."
"The same chance you had was given to her, but she didn't take it and spent al her time being lazy in her room."
"What is she even doing here? This is a place for people who have a knack for hacking. She doesn't know a thing about computers, does she?"
"I remember all the stories you told us of how she never agreed to be in the computer lessons class with you."
"Oh, did she come to watch and cheer for you since this will directly affect the Sutton family?"
Laura calmly shook her head in refusal, a faint cold glint flashing past her eyes as she mocked Kelsie in her heart.
Wasn't it just a few days ago you went head to head with me in front of the company shareholders?
You didn't admit it directly, but you actually dared to imply you were on the same level as me.
Today, I'll make sure you learn your place!
She got rid of the hostility in her eyes and said softly, "She didn't come to cheer me on. A few days ago, Kelsie mentioned that she knew a thing or two about hacking."
"I thought she was messing around, but she insisted that she picked up a few things abroad."
"This contest isn't just for the gurus, it's also for noobs to sharpen their skills and get better. So I thought about inviting her."
"Furthermore, she said she could go head-to-head with me. Ever since that day, we've not had an opportunity to test her skills."
"I thought today would also be a good day for that. If sister knows more than me, I'd gladly learn from her."
She said a lot of things, but what she said about Kelsie saying she could go head-to-head with her struck a nerve in them and they felt even more offended.
Not just hecause it was an insult to Laura, but it was also an insult to them who were still learning from her.
"Hey, you actually dared to say you can go head-to-head with Laura? Aren't you bragging too much?"
"Do you have any idea what Laura has accomplished in the past seven years?"
"She's no longer the little girl who didn't know what to do when she sits in front of a computer. Her fingers now moves across keyboards in a flash."
"There is not a lot of people who can beat her in our country. Saying you can beat her because you picked up a few things abroad is an insult to her and everyone of us. I ought to hit you for that!"
Two of them were so riled up they balled their hands into a tight fist and attempted to rush towards Kelsie when Laura quickly held them back.
"Now, now, this is no time to be aggressive. I invited Kelsie here because I felt she can help us have a better chance at winning."
The people paused and glanced at her. They didn't bother thinking about what she said before they directly refused.
"No, I don't think she'll help us at all. A noob like her will only hold us back."
"Don't forget that this place is crawling with talents. Both those that has progressed in leaps in the past few months and those who are just naturally talented."
Laura smiled wickedly and glanced at Kelsie.
"You were confident that you could take me a few days ago. Are you still confident now?"
Kelsie stared at her blankly.
"The contest prize, if I stay on your team and win it, will I have to share it with you and everyone else on the team?"
"By right."
"Never mind, then. I'll be my own team."
Then she walked to a seat in front and sat down.
