Chapter 77 - [77] Lake Baikal

"Hmm.. Wearing a gas mask alone would be completely ineffective."

"Gentlemen, we have arrived at Lake Baikal,"

The American military pilot in the cockpit of the supersonic fighter announced,

Interrupting the X-Men's discussion about how to deal with the three Mutants.

"Alright, X-Men, get ready for battle,"

Professor X said, standing up from his seat with a serious expression.

Beep! Beep!

Suddenly, the radar alarm blared from the cockpit.

"Gentlemen, we've been locked onto by enemy supersonic fighters!"

The pilot, Henry, quickly reported, pointing to the two red dots rapidly closing in on the radar display.

"What the hell, Hank? Didn't you say the only fighter capable of supersonic speed was the one we're flying in?"

Sean Cassidy exclaimed in frustration.

"This is the Soviet Union,"

Beast Hank replied tersely, silencing Sean with just one sentence.

As a superpower in the Cold War, it was only natural for the Soviet Union to possess supersonic fighters.

"Gentlemen, should we attempt to evade them?"

The pilot asked anxiously, watching as two Soviet supersonic fighters launched from the military base at the center of Lake Baikal.

In mere moments, they were closing in on the X-Men's aircraft, causing the pilot to break into a cold sweat.

"Henry, just focus on flying the plane,"

Magneto said as he stood up and waved his hand, opening the door of the fighter.

He looked at the Soviet supersonic fighters rapidly closing in behind them.

With a casual gesture, he pinched the air.

Boom!

Two fireballs erupted in the sky,

The Soviet supersonic fighters crushed effortlessly by Magneto's power.

"Magneto is invincible!"

The pilot, Henry, couldn't help but shout excitedly.

Magneto heard Henry's enthusiastic cheering, and the corners of his mouth curled into a faint smile.

But before he could revel in the moment, the air defense system around Lake Baikal suddenly activated.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

A barrage of missiles launched into the air,

Swarming toward the X-Men's supersonic fighter.

The Soviet Union's steel arsenal was on full display.

Magneto's smile faded as he faced the incoming onslaught.

He frowned slightly, then stretched out his hands.

In an instant, all the missiles froze in midair.

Although Magneto was a Level 4 Mutant, the sheer number of missiles was beyond his ability to fully control.

He strained with all his might, veins bulging on his forehead and arms, trying desperately to keep the missiles suspended in the air.

Despite his efforts, the dense barrage of missiles began to inch closer to the fighter once again.

"Homelander, hurry up! I can't hold them much longer,"

Magneto shouted, his face tense with exertion as he tried to maintain control.

"Magneto, you need to train harder,"

Brian remarked casually, observing the situation.

When it became clear that Magneto couldn't hold the missiles back any longer,

Brian finally decided to act.

Standing up, he flew out of the fighter plane, suspending himself in the air with ease.

The red star cloak on his back fluttered dramatically in the wind.

Amid Magneto's strained roars, brian calmly raised his hand.

With a wave, his psychokinesis erupted.

The missiles, previously creeping toward the fighter, suddenly veered away and shot upward into the sky.

At an altitude of 10,000 meters, the entire barrage detonated!

BooOOoom!

Creating a massive red fire cloud that loomed above Brian!

"Professor X, it's your turn now,"

Brian said, turning back to the fighter after neutralizing the threat.

Professor X nodded calmly and pressed his right hand to his temple.

A surge of immense mental power instantly enveloped the entire base.

The soldiers within the base were overtaken, their eyes dulling as they collapsed to the ground in a deep sleep.

The base, home to 17,000 personnel, had its defenses neutralized in an instant under Professor X's mental influence.

"Alright, Henry, you can land now,"

Professor X said gently, nodding toward Henry in the cockpit.

The supersonic fighter quickly descended, landing smoothly on the runway of the Soviet Union's Lake Baikal military base.

One by one, the X-Men disembarked from the aircraft.

Brian, who had been hovering mid-air, also descended to the ground, positioning himself in front of the X-Men.

With his red star cape billowing in the wind,

Brian struck a commanding and heroic figure, resembling the arrival of Superman.

Behind him, Professor X and the others exchanged subtle looks,

Their eyes twitching slightly at Brian's display.

"Siryn, locate the Mutants,"

Professor X said, ignoring Brian's theatrics and turning to Sean Cassidy.

"Yes, Professor X,"

Siryn responded eagerly.

He was very excited that it was finally his turn to demonstrate his ability.

Sean Cassidy opened his mouth and emitted an infrasound wave.

The sound waves spread rapidly, bouncing back moments later with the information he needed.

Siryn's ears twitched, and a confident smile appeared on his face.

"We've found them, Professor,"

Siryn announced, his expression serious.

"They're 400 meters away from here,"

He added, relaying the exact location he had detected.

Brian glanced at Siren and curled his lips slightly.

An impressive sound wave ability, yet Siren was essentially using it as bat-like echolocation, and looked pleased with himself for it.

It was baffling to Brian.

"Well done, Siryn,"

Professor X said, offering timely praise before leading the group toward the Mutants' location.

Meanwhile, inside a building 400 meters away,

The 10 Mutants looked at one another, confusion etched on their faces.

They stared out at the Soviet soldiers who had suddenly collapsed outside.

They were unsure of what had just happened.

"Could it be that Sebastian Shaw recruited another powerful Mutant?"

A 1.9-meter-tall Soviet man, resembling a bodybuilder, guessed optimistically.

"Armstrong, do you have any brains?

It's obvious the enemy is here,"

A Southeast Asian man with quill-like spikes on his head, a cold expression, and a unique tattoo on his chin, sneered disdainfully.

"Don't push it, Quill! Are you looking for trouble?"

The big man, Armstrong, clenched his fists angrily and stormed toward the man codenamed Quill, shouting in frustration.

Quill, however, remained unfazed by Armstrong's anger.

He sneered, and sharp spikes quickly emerged from his face as a show of force.

"Do you really want to try it?"

Quill said confidently, his demeanor making it clear that he believed he could take down Armstrong in an instant.

Armstrong, initially full of rage, hesitated for a moment and subconsciously took two steps back.

Quill's confidence visibly intimidated Armstrong,

Causing him to lose the resolve he had just moments earlier.

"Weakling,"

Quill sneered earning himself the upper hand without lifting a finger.

Even though Armstrong possessed super strength, in this silent battle of wills, Quill triumphed over Armstrong.
