Chapter 1 - Prologue!

~YAWN~

The faint hum of a yawn echoed throughout the room as the man slowly awakened, the erosion of time seeming to hum through his veins as his consciousness slowly stirred.

The mind of the man floated between the realms of sleep and wakefulness. The blurred imagines of memories slowly flashed throughout his mind as he opened his eyes, fully waking up.

He groaned as he woke up, feeling the warm air on his skin, which was laced with the unique scent of teak wood. His eyes fluttered as they were weighted by decades of sleep as he looked around the room he was in.

The room was extremely opulent, or luxurious, adorned with intricate patterns of gold and silver, each detail crafted with supernatural precision.

However, he quickly shook his head and ignored the room, he had seen it a million times before, it was his personal room after all, and he spent a decent amount of time here in the past.

Instead, he focused on the sense of time, or perhaps the lack of it. Focusing in on his surroundings, his cosmic awareness flared, and he quickly came to a conclusion as to how long he had been in retreat for.

Twenty years.

Twenty years had passed since he had entered into this retreat to jog his memory, to clear up the visions he saw, but after 20 years, he realized these were not visions.

They were memories!

Memories of his past life. He had been reborn in this world long long ago, even prior to The Great War. He had very little memories, and they were extremely fuzzy. Just visions of his past life, the fact he had a younger sister, a loving aunt, but not much.

The main memories he had when he arrived in this world was of his powers. Their origin, a game called Genshin Impact, and perfect knowledge of how to control all of those various powers.

His favorite character from those memories was a man called Neuvillette, who he happened to share the looks of, and so he also decided to take up his name.

( MC will be called Neuvillette from here on out! )

Thus, he spent his life in this world using his clean slate to enjoy his life, and eventually became the Chief Ludex of the Supernatural, who controls the Court of the Fatui, which judges all crimes across the Supernatural World and controls the Prisons.

He used his immense power to create the laws of the Supernatural World, and enforce them, until the point where now, basically every single meaningful dispute was resolved in the Court of the Fatui.

However, around 30 years ago, Neuvillette had began having visions. Visions of persons he knew, such as Serafall Leviathan and Sirzechs Lucifer, and over a 10 year period, those visions became more intense.

This made Neuvillette officially announce he was going into a lengthy retreat in order to find out what these visions were about, and and after 20 years, Neuvillette had come to the conclusion.

They weren't Visions. They were Memories!

Memories of his past life, showing that this world was based on an anime called High School DxD. He learned of the protagonist, a guy called Issei who loves boobs, and the heroine, a Devil called Rias with massive boobs.

It was weird!

Finally, Neuvillette stood up, his movements languid and slightly stiff. Sitting in the same spot for 20 years would do that to you. However, within seconds, his stiff movements became smooth, and he walked into the mirror.

Neuvillette stood at a whopping 6'8, his form draped in a beautiful robe with the colours of deep blue and grey intertwined with silver accents. His long, pale hair cascaded down his back.

Once he was done checking his appearance and making sure everything was okay, Neuvillette turned to the doors on the far side of the room, moving towards them, and with a flick of his gloved hand, the doors opened, and he exited it.

Beyond his personal room stretched the sprawling halls of the Palais Mermonia, which was the administrative heart of the Court of Fatui.

Thei air within the palace was cool, still carrying the scent of incense and polished stone.

The faint sounds of court business, quiet murmurs, the rustle of robes, and the occasional clicking of boots on the floor, whispered from distant rooms.

There were many moving cogs in the wheel of the Fatui, from Financial, to the actual Court Cases and documents themselves, and such, there was always more work to be done.

As Neuvillette walked through the halls, many of the palace staff glanced at him in stunned silence. Most of them were new faces, likely hired during his absence, and had never seen the Chief Ludex in person.

They had only heard stories, whispered legends of the man who single-handedly brought some form of order to the chaotic supernatural world. Their wide eyes quickly lowered in deference, and they stepped aside, their heads bowed as he passed.

Neuvillette paid them little attention, his mind still absorbing the clarity of his memories, no longer visions, but true recollections of his past life. He now knew with certainty that this world was derived from a story High School DxD.

That thought made him laugh. Here he was at the Court of Fatui, one of if not the most influential factions in the world, and even his title of the Chief Ludex, it all seemed so far removed from the ridiculousness of an anime where the protagonist needs to squeeze his partners breasts to enhance his power.

But here he was, in the middle of it all, a figure of justice and authority. Life truly had a strange sense of humor. As Neuvillette turned a corner, he spotted a familiar figure standing near one of the grand atrium's windows: Alfred Pennyworth!

Alfred was Neuvillette's most trusted associate, he stood tall, though not quite as towering as Neuvillette's own 6'8" frame. Alfred had been human once, before Neuvillette had granted him the power of an adepti, transforming him into something more, something eternal.

His dark hair was neatly tied back, and he wore a elegant suit, which though formal, lacked the grandiosity of Neuvillette's attire. Even after all these years, Alfred remained ever the diligent servant, loyal beyond words.

As Neuvillette approached, Alfred's eyes widened in disbelief. He blinked, taking a step forward, his usually composed demeanor faltering. "C~Chief…Ludex" he stammered, his voice filled with both shock and relief. "You've returned."

Neuvillette inclined his head, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips, "It seems I have," he said softly. "Has much changed in my absence?"

Alfred took a breath, visibly calming himself before bowing low. "Forgive my shock, my lord. I had almost forgotten what it was like to be in your presence. I… We have missed you." He straightened, his expression becoming more somber.

"There have been many issues, I'm afraid. Though I've done my best to lead the Court in your stead, I fear I am not as skilled at command as you."

"One should not chastise himself for mistakes on the path of learning. Judging from what I've seen, you've done an exceptionally suitable job Alfred." Neuvillette said.

Alfred hesitated for a moment before speaking again, his tone filled with regret, "Thank you, my lord, but… without your guidance, tensions have been rising, especially with the devils, many of the more powerful straight up ignore any court summonings we give them, and have even injured enforcers due to your absence."

Neuvillette frowned slightly, his mind already calculating the steps he would need to take to restore balance, "I see," he said, his voice thoughtful, "Did they perhaps believe I was dead?"

Alfred hesitantly nodded, "Many theories sprouted due to your retreat. Many claimed you were dead, overtaken by prior injuries, many also thought you were losing your power. I have done my best to crush these rumours, but they keep coming."

"Hmm, so what have been the most significant incidents?" Neuvillette asked, beginning to listen intently.

It was the normal for high quality incidents, territorial disputes, high class murders, the normal ones, but when Neuvillette heard of one particular incident, his impassive expression warped into a frown, "The nekoshou and nekomata were slaughtered?"

Alfred saw the Ludex's dissatisfied expressions and quickly began explaining, "Y~yes....Many years ago, there was in incident involving 2 nekoshou that shook the Underworld. Yasaka and Nurarihyon came to the Court of Fatui in order to create a case, but it unfortunately couldn't be passed."

"We presume the Devils still held some anger towards the nekomata and their variant nekoshou, as only less than a week ago, news of their slaughter was released. Very little nekomata survived, and same for their variant nekoshou, I'm afraid the species is basically on the brink of extinction."

"It seems I need to give these people a reminder of why the Court of the Fatui has so much power. Nevillette said.

"Yasaka and Nurarihyon are actually in the Office of the Ludex. A meeting was scheduled to discuss what possible action can be taken to bring the Devils who slaughtered them, but we doubted anything could be done, especially with your absence. The incident with the 2 Nekoshou's has still gone unpunished after all these years, much to their dissatisfaction." Alfred said, waiting for his superior to give him further instructions.

Neuvillette just quietly stood, an impassive thoughtful expression on his face as he wondered the next best course of action, "I'll handle the meeting with the Yokai. Meanwhile, send a Court Summon with my personal stamp to the Devils through one of our enforcers, these incidents cannot remain unpunished."

Alfred nodded over and over, "Right away Monsieur Neuvillette." once Alfred finished, he briskly walked away, moving to the Office of the Enforcers.

Meanwhile, Neuvillette headed to his personal Office, the Office of the Ludex, to meet with Yasaka and Nurarihyon.
