Chapter 2 - Jamie Henson, Police Corporal

Aside from the frustrations she saw this morning such as a driver in front being indecisive as whether to go left and right, Jamie entered the police department without losing her cool. She has to set an example, especially that she is a policewoman, and getting news of a cop going ballistic over some daily frustrations will definitely damage one's reputation. It was just any other morning that she gets for the 5 years she's worked here. It was okay when she started as a patrolwoman, tasked to patrol the streets, and it was okay when she was promoted to Police Corporal, a cop in charge of handling reports of other officers and evidences by the Detectives for trial.

"Aye, good morning, Jamie!" Officer Quinn greeted as soon as Jamie sets her things down her desk. Officer Quinn is a blue tiefling, one of her horns was damaged due to a big fight with her brother. At least, that's what she heard when Quinn gossiped with the other officers. "Morning." Jamie noted.

"Gee, you sound gloomy. Lemme guess, someone took your patience?" The tiefling remarked with a look that made Jamie roll her eyes.

"It's the usual. Don't want to ttalk about it. Did I miss anything before I came?" The human stated.

"Oh, um... There's a new detective in the building! Heard she has to clean up the file room first."

Jamie paused at the thought of a new detective in the precinct. She remembered the last detective that they have replaced; working with him was a nightmare and it was lucky for her that she didn't drop dead because of his incompetence. Hopefully, the new one would be someone who handles evidences like they're just a bag of chips. "Cool." The policewoman replied, her head filled with new frustrations from her experience with that particular detecctive.

Quinn could tell the unenthusiasm in her voice. "Jamie," She stated, pronouncing her name like a dissapointed teacher to a kid who is not genuine when saying sorry. "I can see that you'vee had it rough with Detective Greenhorn, but give the new one a chance. Sure, I heard she's just fresh out of college, but I'm sure she'll be an amazing one once she learns the ropes!"

"You told me the same thing when you hooked me up with a friend of yours. He's terrible." Jamie stated, not even holding back on what she just said.

Quinn rolled her eyes at the comment, fixing her throat to change the subject. "Anyway, I want to ask you to bring this to the file room, okay?" She asked, handing a folder. Jamie inspected the files inside to see a profile. While she knew Quinn can gossip a lot, she's quite competent at handling files like these. "I'm about to go out on patrol, anyway. Have a great day!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jamie took a deep sigh, dragging herself along the hallway to visit the file room. Quinn said that the new detective is currently assigned there, so maybe this would be a good test for her to see if she's quite confident in her craft.

It's almost as if it was a jinx, though.

Jamie found herself in a hot mess of a file room, combined with a defeated girl in the middle of such mess. Jamie could probably feel herself having an aneurysm just by being annoyed at this. "The hell happened here?" She called out to the girl.

"Hello, Ma'am." She greeted. "I was organizing the file room, and uh... It's a whole mess here."

Wow, at least the first thing she did is not to insult me, Jamie thought. "Are you the new recuit the police are talking about? You've got a fine mess on your first shift." She commented.

"Hey, I wanted to have my first assignment but the captain put me here!" The girl protested. "S-sorry Ma'am, I'll do my best to fix this by the end of the day."

"Jamie Henson, Police Corporal." She introduced. Assuming she knew what her position means, she continued before the other's mouth opened to say something. "Save your name for when we're going to work together on a case. I don't trust newbies." She looked at the mess around them. "Again, you're a newbie, right? I'll help you for now. You're lucky I don't need to be on patrol just yet."

Jamie rolled her eyes as soon as she could see a shimmer in the newbie's eyes. "You will? Oh, thank you! I've really been struggling on organizing these files, man! Does that mean we're going to work together?-"

"No, newbie." Jamie starkly replied. "Helping you here doesn't mean we get to be friends. Now, sort the files you messed up according to letter."

"But I don't like to be called newbie," The girl mentioned. "My name's Katie!"

"I'll call you that when I don't see you as a newbie, Newbie. Now shut up and do your assignment. And do NOT let the captain know I helped you."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunset came, and Katie got to report to captain Blackwood about her finished progress before 7 PM hit. To her surprise, the captain was perhaps too easily persuaded, praising her for being quite a competent detective because of sorting the files within one day. Little did he know that she had an assisstant earlier, a policewoman named Jamie. Thanks to her, she'll be able to get home early on her first day at work.

Mahika's sunset scenery was something that Katie would always love to see, no matter her mood and environment. The orange and purple sky makes it feel like she's in some fantasy show or book, and she would only wish that fantasy was real to her. It would be fun to see more than just magic and science, anyway.

She also thought of how many times luck appeared before her today. She was lucky enough to get to work without being too late, and she was lucky to find someone who was willing to help her, despite seeming like such a strict policewoman. Her name was Jamie, right? She's such a strange person, her eyes were so silver that she initially thought she was blind, but she could tell that shecan see her clearly. She was even shocked that she started to work at the precinct at the age of 17, and that today she should be 22. 17! She only just finished high school by then! Is she such a smart human that she sped through education so easily and effortlessly?

Now's definitely not the time to overthink things. The one thing she knows for certain is that maybe Jamie tends to be a tough girl but has a heart of gold inside. Who knows? She still has more time to spend on knowing everyone in the precinct.
