Weiwei came home a little overwhelmed. The lunch with Director Zhang and the trip to the hospital with the old man were more than enough excitement for her in one day.
Those who came up with the saying "when it rains it pours" knew what they were talking about. Not to mention Chengli's confession. It's been pouring hard, that's for sure.
Weiwei was looking forward to curling up on her sofa and thinking in peace and quiet about everything that had happened. It wasn't that Weiwei liked to delve on the past, but she found she was better at thinking about things not in the heat of the moment. She was able to turn things around in her mind, not to miss important details, and assess whether she did all the right things, and if she made a mistake, she thought about how to fix it. Often, on calm reflection things appeared different than in real time.
Why didn't he call or text me?
There was that, too. Weiwei hadn't heard from Qi since the previous morning.
Are the negotiations not going well? Oh, I hope they are. I want him to succeed, impress his grandpa, and make peace with him.
Weiwei made herself a cup of chamomile tea and sat down on the sofa.
At peace, at last.
Weiwei stretched her back. It felt extremely good to sit like that and stretch.
Someone knocked on the door.
There you go. I guess no peace and quiet for me just yet. Is it still pouring?
Weiwei sighed and went to the door.
"Who is it?"
"It's me," she heard Qi's voice.
He's here?!
Weiwei's heart raced as she flung the door open. Qi was standing in the hallway, with his black roller bag and a quiet smile on his face.
"Surprise," he said.
Weiwei was speechless for a moment.
"Not a good surprise?" asked Qi.
Not really, no.
"Why didn't you call?" said Weiwei. "I was so worried!"
"May I come in?"
Weiwei let him through. "Of course, come in."
Qi stepped into the apartment, and turned around as Weiwei closed the door.
"I thought you'd miss me," he said with the same playful little smile.
"I did," Weiwei blurted before she could consider all the consequences.
"Really?" he came closer to her and wrapped his hands around her waist. "How much?"
His hold on her felt so sweet that Weiwei went gooey one again.
I missed you like crazy.
Qi lowered his head and his lips touched hers. "I missed you a lot," he whispered.
"Me too," exhaled Weiwei and wrapped her hands around his neck.
Their kisses were growing more and more passionate.
He smells so nice. I really missed his smell around the place.
Weiwei opened her eyes, and Qi opened his.
"You should've called," repeated Weiwei pulling away a tiny bit.
"I know," Qi said, loosening his grip. "I couldn't wait. I'll do better next time."
Weiwei felt a little awkward now that they were done kissing. Should they keep going? Should they sit down?
"How was your negotiation?"
"All done. Everything is resolved, signed and sealed."
"And TTT is going to be fine?"
Qi laughed. "Yes, TTT will live on. Don't you worry about it so much."
Weiwei pouted. "That's not a nice thing to say."
Qi kissed her lips again until the pout dissolved. He took her by the hand and led her to the sofa. "There's something else I wanted to tell you."
Oh please, no more news…
"What is it?"
Qi sighed. "You see, my grandfather was trying to get me to come back to the firm now that the investment has been secured. But I told him that I'm only going to finish the business we agreed on with him. And after that I'd go my own way," he gestured. "Here."
His own way? What is he trying to say?
"Which means," he continued, "that from now I'm pretty poor."
Weiwei couldn't contain a giggle.
There was a pretend frown on Qi's face. "I didn't think that'd be funny."
Weiwei shook her head. "And I don't think Vice-President Feng understands the meaning of being poor," she tried to stop herself chuckling.
"So, you're okay with that?"
"With what?"
"With having a poor boyfriend?" Qi asked.
Boyfriend! He's my boyfriend!
"Of course," Weiwei said, taking his hand. "That's nothing new to me. We'll be poor together."
A smile spread over Qi's face again. He pulled Weiwei closer. "You're an angel, Weiwei."
Just kiss me!
"So you want me to be your girlfriend?" she barely managed to mumble.
"I thought you already were," Qi replied between the kisses.
"Did I say that?"
"You said you liked me."
Oh, he's such a good kisser!
"Did I?"
"You said you liked me very much, remember?"
"No…"
"You don't remember?"
"I remember nothing." Weiwei was all burning inside. "Do you like me?"
"I like you. Much more than like you."
His kisses spread all over her neck and face. She was drowning in an overpowering sensation of pleasure and happiness. It filled her from head to toe.
"Weiwei…"
"What?"
"Weiwei, can I?"
She felt his hands on her body and she wanted more.
"Yes."
And Weiwei pulled him closer.
