When I finally stumbled outside, the air hit me like a wall of suffocating heat and chaos. Smoke curled up into the sky, thick and black, blotting out the stars. My lungs burned with every breath, but I didn't have time to stop and catch it. The ground beneath my feet was littered with debris—shattered glass, splintered wood, and pieces of metal that gleamed dully in the dim light of fires scattered across the compound.
The scene was pure hell.
Zombies were everywhere. Groaning, snarling, and clawing at anything that moved, they swarmed like locusts. People were screaming, running in every direction, only to be dragged down by the relentless undead. The explosions hadn't scared the zombies off—it had only stirred them into a frenzy.
I was dizzy, my legs shaking as I tried to find a clear path. My head was pounding from the tranquilizer, but I knew if I stopped now, I wouldn't get another chance.
