Chapter 41 - chapter 41: Departure

Fuck!"

"Yes! I got you!"

His exclamation was quickly followed by a shout of joy, which was followed by rustling of trees as Reniris ran towards his location; she arrived quickly with a smug grin on her face.

"How do you feel? Nice and cool, I assume "

She said, causing Eon to roll his eyes at her terrible joke; not that he could do any better, but still.

"You only captured me because I let you"

"Yeah I'm sure you did, it's definitely not because you got overconfident and careless"

She said sarcastically and folded her arms while giving him a look that told him she wasn't so gullible.

Although Eon simply appreciated her ample breasts that got pushed up as a result of her folding her arms, something she took notice of but found she didn't hate it.

'Hmm never really had a problem with him looking at me with such lust'

She thought, perhaps it was because she knew what his intentions were from the very beginning, so him looking at her sexually was something she expected from him.

"As long as you know"

He said, and this time, it was her who rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"Regardless I win, so it doesn't matter if you let me win"

She said, giving him a cocky smile as her chest inflated with pride, further letting Eon feast on her form with his eyes. Eon didn't take her to be the competitive type but he supposed she was cute that way too.

"Well my turn, if you manage to evade me that will be your actual win of the game"

He said as the ice that had encased him began to crack, and in just a few seconds, he broke free from its hold and stretched, eliciting an amused shake of the head from Reniris.

"I don't think we have enough goblins for that or at least we have culled their numbers down enough so they won't be a problem for a few more months and we have enough heads between the two of us that we should have enough money for a week in an inn"

She said as she sensed the number of goblins within the area, there were barely ten of them, perhaps they should have adjusted the number of goblins heads necessary for the win.

"I get the feeling you're saying that because you don't want to lose"

"Even if I was, it's not like we can play here forever, the guild receptionist is waiting for us outside the forest"

He sighed but chose not to protest. What Reniris said was true; for quests like goblin slaying, you couldn't just bring the head of a goblin inside a city mostly because of a possible disease spreading; as stated before, goblins are sex freaks, so it wouldn't do to have goblin blood anywhere near a city.

Reniris found it interesting that despite most monsters being born from mana, they still are organic enough to want to reproduce and able to successfully reproduce but also carry diseases.

"It's certainly not a matter of mana creating more mana"

She whispered to herself causing Eon to look at her with slight confusion but chose to ignore it.

"Well, let's go then"

He said as he walked away, pulling her out of her thoughts and causing her to run after him

…..

"72,73,74, 75, and 76."

A young woman finished counting the goblin heads and quickly jotted the number down on her clipboard and did some quick maths to determine how much the adventurers should be paid for their work.

The woman was the sole receptionist within the Rix City adventurers guild, and because of that, she handles most of the workload; this includes being the guild's [quest observer], which is the person who makes sure the quests are properly completed without cheating on the adventurers part.

At present, she was near the forest that was east of the city, a safe distance away to not get caught up in the quest but close enough to hear the noise of the adventurers doing their jobs.

"Although I wish they didn't just throw the heads all the way here, hopefully, none of the blood splattered on me"

She said as she checked her clothes; although she would get a change of clothes and wash up after, as it's mandatory to do so for both her and mandatory for the adventurers to wash their hands and weapons before entering the city, she still prefers not to get goblin blood on her.

"We're back, I hope the reward is worth it"

Eon said as both he and Reniris exited the trees.

"Well since you have collected 76 goblin heads today and the Quest was 5ixe per goblin head, that should be around 380 ixe"

"That's 3 nights at an Inn, adding the 250ixe from the 50 goblin heads we collected yesterday It should be 630 and that's a whole week"

Reniris reasoned, but Eon couldn't help but be disappointed, it didn't matter; he was sure he'd get to kill other more powerful monsters in the future.

"Please burn these heads and we can go back and mark the quest complete and give you your reward"

She said Reniris was quick to light the heads with a flame, scorching them to ash in mere seconds before they headed back to the city to collect the reward.

….

Once again, Reniris and Eon had departed from another location and moved towards another, much like how they departed from the village; they took flight once they saw they were far enough from the city of Rix and landed back down once they were close enough to their destination.

"So you're saying there were only humans?"

"Yes"

"But how does that work? How can there be only one race of people, did the elves, Dwarves and beastmen die out?"

Reniris curiously asked. She may not have met any elves or Dwarves yet, but she knew they existed; how she knew that was a point of frustration as she didn't know, but she just knew. Eon could only sigh at her questions.

"Look Ren best answer I can give you is an "I don't know" maybe they did exist and died out but nothing in human history had suggested they existed in the first place"

He answered as the two exited the forest, and as they did, they saw the tall walls of the city of Hen; Eon was beginning to see a pattern with the way the cities were named, one he found to be uninspired and unoriginal.

Unlike the city of Rix, no ice walls were blocking it or anything of the sort but rather, a long line of people waiting to enter.

"But how can there be just humans"

"If it makes you feel any better there were different coloured humans"

Her eyes lit up his words, immediately imagining humans with a variety of colours.

"Colours, like red and blue?"

"No, just brown and close to white shades of brown."

"So like elves and dark elves and such?"

She asked with more than a little disappointment in her tone, something Eon noticed but chose not to comment on.

"Yes"

"Aside from the lack of magic and technology as well as the stories, it seems like your world might have been boring"

"Unbelievably so, but there are some who found excitement in it so..."

Despite agreeing that Earth was boring, he still felt a bit offended that she called it boring, but unfortunately, he could think of nothing to convince her otherwise.

As they got closer to the line of people their conversation shifted from speaking about earth to talking about other things.

"So are you going straight to the library or do we start at the adventurers guild and make some money?"

He asked, and she mulled over his words; they had a week's worth of funds to stay at an inn, but that didn't leave them with enough money for anything else; she'd like to buy books that might be relevant to her search about devils.

"By the way, Sam said we shouldn't mention that we became adventurers at Rix, as that may make people suspicious of us and the legitimacy of our rank as adventurers"

He whispered, and she nodded; it was pretty obvious to both of them that Rix City was quite lax when it came to rules; it was evident by the fact Sam saw no reason to mention the [quest observer] thing when they arrived there.

This made both of them believe there were probably other rules and regulations that Sam ignored to mention, meaning they'll need to be sure they don't break any rules they don't know.

"This is going to be boring, let's play another game"

Eon suggested, and Reniris didn't object; this time, he decided to teach her how to play patty cake; he never really knew the point of the game, and he figured it was more about being in sync than winning.
