3 DAYS LATER, GEORGE LOUGHTON'S TRIAL...
I stood beside Elspeth, watching as she adjusted her blazer in front of the mirror in our bedroom. Today, the culmination of months of hard work and sacrifice had finally arrived.
Elspeth was ready. I could see it in the way she carried herself—confidence in every step, yet a quiet tension lingered beneath the surface. This trial would define so much of her life, and I could feel the weight of it pressing down on her.
I helped her into her Louboutins, my fingers brushing against hers for a moment. She gave me a small smile, her nerves momentarily giving way to the comfort of my presence.
"You'll do well," I said, trying to reassure her, though I knew she didn't need it. She had trained for this, prepared for this day in ways few could understand.
