I found myself standing in front of my family's old apartment, frozen in disbelief. It had been reduced to rubble years ago, yet here it stood—perfectly intact, as though time had rewound itself.
The silence felt deafening as I stepped inside, the floorboards groaning under my weight. The house was suffocatingly dark, with only a single candle flickering weakly on the dining table. Its faint glow cast eerie shadows that crawled up the walls.
Then, I heard it. A piercing scream from the master bedroom.
My chest tightened. "Elspeth?" I whispered, my voice trembling.
Another cry followed, desperate and broken. Adrenaline surged through me as I sprinted toward the room. Throwing the door open, I stopped dead in my tracks.
