As Knight and Lucy entered the guild, the quiet atmosphere suddenly shifted, and time seemed to resume its normal pace.
"Back from your mission, Knight, Lucy?" Mirajane greeted them with her usual warm smile.
"Knight? Lucy?" Erza Scarlet, her expression neutral, turned around. "Are you the new members Mira mentioned? Welcome to Fairy Tail. I'm Erza."
"Hello, senior, I'm Knight," Knight greeted, observing her intently.
The first thing that caught his attention was her long crimson hair. Her armor, adorned with the guild's emblem on her left chest, protected her upper body, while a blue short skirt and black boots accentuated her long legs. She looked more like a knight from a kingdom than a magician, fitting since her magic was aptly named "The Knight."
"Ms. Erza, hello! I'm Lucy," Lucy said nervously. She had heard from Mira that Erza was one of the guild's S-class wizards—her strong aura was quite intimidating.
Sensing Lucy's nervousness, Erza offered a reassuring smile. "We're all family here. If you face any difficulties, don't hesitate to come to me."
"Did you hear that, Lucy?" Knight teased. "If you have any trouble, just go to Erza."
The unspoken message: Don't bother me—let me enjoy my peace.
"You don't need to call me 'senior,' just Erza," Erza said seriously, her gaze shifting back to Knight. "I've heard a lot about you since I returned. The Guild Master praised your creation of the magic Internet and how it's changing the world. And as a wizard, you've mastered powerful super magic."
Knight was about to downplay his achievements when Erza suddenly shifted gears. "Let's put aside the Internet for now. Since you've mastered such impressive magic, how about a spar? Show me your strength."
The guild members immediately perked up at the mention of a duel.
"Erza's going to spar with Knight?"
"This is going to be epic!"
The excitement in the room was palpable, with everyone's eyes gleaming in anticipation.
Knight, however, was not thrilled. The good news? Erza didn't want to team up with him. The bad news? She wanted to fight him.
Why was this bad news? He suspected that if he won, Erza would keep pushing for more matches. And losing? That wasn't an option for him either—not as a man.
Just as he was contemplating this, Natsu leapt in, bursting with energy. "Erza! Before you fight him, let me go first! This time, I'll win!"
Surrounded by flames, Natsu charged at Erza, yelling, "Fire Dragon's Iron Fist—"
Before he could finish, Erza swiftly turned and punched him in the stomach, knocking him out cold in one blow.
Gray laughed. "Serves you right, you idiot!"
Mirajane stepped forward. "Wait, Erza, neither you nor Knight should spar inside the guild. You'll destroy the place."
"True," Erza nodded. "Let's go to the lake behind the guild." She turned to Knight. "Come with me."
Knight sighed. "I didn't even agree to this..." But there was no stopping her now. Erza stood in front of him, waiting patiently. "Do you need time to prepare? I'm a considerate person, after all," she said with a smile.
Knight raised an eyebrow. "Considerate in the wrong ways," he muttered under his breath.
"Fine," he said aloud. "But before we start, you have to promise me one thing."
Erza tilted her head slightly. "Anything. We're family, after all."
"If you lose, you can't challenge me again."
Erza blinked, then smiled. Confident—she genuinely believed she would win.
"Deal. I'll be waiting by the lake," she said before walking out with purpose.
Behind the Fairy Tail Guild was a vast lake, large enough to be mistaken for a sea. Knight and Erza stood about 30 meters apart, with the guild members gathering a safe distance away to watch the match.
In the guild's group chat, members were already placing bets.
Macao: "Alright, time to start betting!"
Wakaba: "Erza's gonna win. 200 points on her!"
Levy: "Knight's strong, but Erza's magical power is on another level. 100 points on Erza!"
Lucy: "Why are you all using points?"
Loke: "Because money's too easy to earn! But points? Now that's valuable."
Mirajane: "Alright, Loke, enough with the alias. Bet on your real name."
Loke: "Okay, fine! 200 points on Erza."
Mirajane: "I'm betting 500 points on Knight!"
Macao: "How do you have so many points?"
Mirajane: "That's a secret. 😉"
Wakaba: "Knight's giving her points, for sure. So jealous! 😭"
Knight glanced at the guild members, knowing exactly what they were doing without needing to check the chat. He focused back on Erza.
"Stay clear, everyone. I'm not responsible if you get caught in this," he warned before turning to Erza. "Let's begin."
Erza, with the virtues of a knight, extended him the courtesy of making the first move. "You go first."
Without a word, Knight summoned his magic. A wave of power surged through his body, gathering in his fist.
Boom!
The force of his punch reverberated, splitting the air and sending a massive wave across the lake—a towering 100-meter-high wall of water barreling toward Erza.
