"Miss Parker," the Doctor began, his voice calm but professional. "I've reviewed your mother's condition."
My chest tightened. "And?"
"She's stable, but the recovery process will take time. Her body is fragile, and stress - any stress - could complicate her progress."
I nodded, the knot in my stomach loosening just slightly. Stable. It wasn't much, but it was something.
"What can I do?" My voice cracked slightly. "How can I help?"
"Patience," he replied gently, folding his hands on the desk. "Being here, supporting her emotionally, will make a difference. But Miss Parker…" He hesitated, his brow furrowing. "She needs peace. Whatever challenges you're facing outside of this hospital - try to shield her from them."
His words hit me hard, a stark reminder of the storm brewing with Alex's father. I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded. "Thank you, Doctor."
