"Okay I hope to see your papers on my desk this afternoon, class dismissed"
"Harriett"
I turned around as soon as I felt Pierce lightly tap my shoulder.
"Oh hey,"
I finished putting my things in my bag before standing up.
"Lunch?"
He flashed a smile at me and I gave him a light nod as an answer. We walked together in silence until we reached the diner just outside our school premises.
"Order anything you want"
He urged me, I looked at the displayed dishes and decided to just have a light lunch since I ate so much earlier before going to school. And frankly I didn't feel like eating too much, not with the topic that Pierce was going to bring up.
"So… about my transfer"
Pierce trailed off as soon as our food arrived.
"Why did your mom suddenly urged you to change schools? It's only the start of the semester"
"Well she says that this school won't make me get in large companies after graduating"
I chuckled at her mother's reason well it is funny how a child of a large conglomerate corporation is studying in a public university so I wasn't really surprised at Aunt's decision.
"Well we all know the reason why you entered this university Pierce"
I looked at him straight in the eye before giving him a small smile, he let out a sigh before holding my hand.
"Was it wrong of me to want to be by my bestfriend's side?"
I stared at our hands for a while. Maybe it was because we had been together for so long that I instantly knew what he had in mind. What was troubling him and it made my own heart ache.
"I'm not her Pierce and I won't be like her, I'm gonna be fine by myself"
He stared at me as if he was debating whether to believe me or not. Not a moment later he snorts and lets go of my hand.
"Sure damn, you won't be like her."
I smiled at him, I am well aware that the reason a rich kid like him enrolled in this university is to have his eyes on me. The reason? I'm still debating whether it's out of concern or guilt.
Well whatever it is, I'm not a kid anymore who needs to be looked after. The whole day passed by normally, a little peaceful until a voice shattered that.
"Oh-ho Hey Qian"
I squinted my eyes, in front of me lies a Leonel Cydel Ramir but instead of army green-colored uniform, he's wearing an all-white uniform.
"You look.."
"Dashing? Handsome?"
I raised an eyebrow at him before rolling my eyes and started to walk away.
"Clean"
"Hey wait up! Did you just say I look clean? Is that a compliment?"
"Depends on how you take it"
I heard a light chuckle from him as we both walked down the stairs.
"So which version do you like better?"
I looked at him, clearly eager for my answer as he stood still.
"What?"
"This clean version or the army green version?"
I looked at him from head to toe, I definitely prefer the army green version. But I was in my right mind to not tell him that.
"You look like your planning something suspicious with how you look right now"
"Again, I don't think that's a compliment"
"I told you, it depends on you."
He grabbed the handrail of the stairs and blocked my path before I could even take another step forward. He leaned closer, another smile plastered on his face. That warm smile that he so easily gives to me.
"So, you want to eat dinner?"
"What?"
He laughed at me before flicking my forehead.
"I'm inviting you for dinner stupid"
"HEY WHO ARE YOU CALLING STUPID, STUPID"
I massage my forehead and started walking again.
"So is that a yes to dinner or not?"
"Go figure"
I glared at him when I heard him laughing by my side.
"You look cute"
What he said made me stop in my tracks, my heart clearly not in right terms with me because it felt as if a horse was galloping inside of it.
"What?"
He asks while laughing. I felt the slight churn in my stomach while did and that made me uncomfortable.
"Are you flirting with me?"
"Well, do you want me to flirt with you?"
He gave me a grin and I felt that heartbeat of mine beating faster again. I stared at him and wondered if he was really just teasing me or if he was really serious.
He must have seen my expression because he just gave me a pat on top of my head before saying.
"Well, I think I'll give up on that dinner. See you around Qian"
And just like that he started walking away. I touched the top of my head, if there's one thing I'm bad at it's at stuff like this. With boys, I'm awkward around them the only one I'm comfortable with is Pierce and he's the type who teases me every now and then, a very bad example for a guy reference if I may add.
But as Pierce's teasing gets under my skin and annoys the hell out of me, Leonel's is. How do I put this? It makes me feel emotions that I had only read in romance books.
The kind of feeling that I shouldn't even feel.
I felt my phone vibrate indicating that a text message had just been received. It's from Leonel
Message me when you get home safely.
Take care.
What? I felt another flutter in my stomach but decided to kill it down.
"Why would I even do that. He's really crazy."
I shove the feeling down as I did with my phone and walked away.
Days went by and with Pierce gone, I decided to hang out with some of our regular blockmates. I kind of admit that it is fun hanging out with other people once in a while but what I don't like is the fact that one person started pestering me every now and then.
"Hey Qian, Wanna have lunch with me?"
I rolled my eyes and smiled sweetly at him.
"No"
I heard his loud laughter as I started walking away. It wasn't the constant asking out that annoys the hell out of me but the feelings that would rise up whenever I hear his laugh or see his smile.
"Hey Leonel, you gonna eat lunch or not?"
I looked back and saw one of his classmates walking towards him. Leonel turned to me flashing his sweet smile again.
"Qian, do I still get your no?"
"Yes,"
I told him before walking towards the student's area just down the hall.
I looked for an empty seat and placed my things. I have a report to write plus materials to review for our next training day,
I was about to finish my report when a pack of siomai rice with chili was placed in front of me. I looked up and saw Leonel holding the pack.
"What's that?"
"Uhh siomai rice?"
He said stating the obvious. I snorted at him.
"I mean what's it for?"
"Your lunch,"
He said smilingly as he sat on the empty seat beside me. There was that loud thump in my heart again as he moved closer to me.
"You haven't eaten yet so I thought I'd buy you one"
I stared at he food and grimaced before placing my papers down and staring at him.
"I don't remember making any offers for you to pester me with lunch or dinner or even going out of your way to buy me lunch"
He placed the pack beside my papers and stared at me. His smile easily dropping, and my heart along with it.
"Is it that hard for you to trust my intentions? I believed I told you before, I'm attracted to you, I remember telling you that truthfully but you still don't trust me"
My eyes widened at his statement. Now I'm the bad guy here?
"It's just lunch Qian, you can toss it in the trash can if you think I poisoned it."
He stood up angrily and started walking away. I was just citing the facts why is he so angry now? I stared at his back before grimacing.
I looked at the pack and let out a sigh before continuing my report but I just can't seem to focus on it anymore.
I closed my eyes and looked at the food in front of me. An uncomfortable feeling settling down on me. I had never seen him that angry before, or annoyed.
But damn it, why did he even get angry all of a sudden.
I swear men are so weird most of the time.
