The clothes on Mo Yu's body, which had been billowing due to the surging energy, slowly settled back onto his skin. He exhaled deeply, expelling the turbid air that had been accumulating inside his body.
In less than a year, Mo Yu had advanced from being a Dou Zhe to a Two-Star Dou Shi. It had not been an easy journey, and he had put in a great deal of effort to achieve today's success.
Becoming a Dou Shi signified that Mo Yu had broken through the ranks of ordinary cultivators. While the Dou Shi level was still considered low on the continent, it was significantly stronger and more advanced than the Dou Zhe rank. For instance, in a small place like Qing Shan Town, a Dou Shi was considered top-tier combat strength.
Mo Yu clenched his fist, feeling a newfound sense of power coursing through every part of his body. Now that he had personally entered the Dou Shi realm, he could fully appreciate this strength.
Standing still, Mo Yu suddenly extended his right palm and clenched it tightly. Instantly, silver Dou Qi appeared on the surface of his body. After a brief moment, the Dou Qi retracted and adhered to his clothes, forming a layer of defensive Dou Qi.
This was the Dou Qi Robe, a signature skill of Dou Shi powerhouses, both practical and useful. In battle, it could enhance speed, defense, and attack power.
Looking at the majestic silver thunder robe enveloping his body, Mo Yu smiled. He quickly threw a few punches, and thanks to the recent strengthening of his physical body by the thunder soul energy, his punches were sharp enough to create a piercing sound in the air.
With his current abilities, even without using his soul power, Mo Yu could easily take on a five or six-star Dou Shi. His combat strength had skyrocketed.
Furthermore, after swallowing the accompanying Amethyst Source, his Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder had evolved, reaching the Nascent Stage.
The growth of thunder soul energies is divided into four stages: Infant Stage, Growth Stage, Mature Stage, and Peak Stage.
Previously, the Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder had been in its primordial form, still in the seed stage. The accompanying Amethyst Source, just like the young Amethyst Winged Lion King, had absorbed terrifying amounts of energy from a six-star magical beast while inside the mother beast.
After the Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder absorbed this energy, it successfully broke through to the Infant Stage.
Though it hadn't yet returned to its peak state, the thunder now exhibited some of its true power.
With a thought, a crimson thunderbolt appeared in Mo Yu's hand. Accompanied by a crackling sound, one could faintly hear the cry of a Vermilion Bird.
The Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder now possessed a certain level of sentience. As it surged and rolled, it exuded a terrifying aura, increasing the temperature of the entire cave.
This thunder, combining the violent elements of both fire and thunder, was one of the most destructive energies Mo Yu had at his disposal.
With his breakthrough to a Two-Star Dou Shi and the advancement of his thunder energy, this expedition had been incredibly fruitful.
The following morning, Mo Yu woke up early to leave the cave. After all, he was in the depths of the Magical Beast Mountain Range, surrounded by high-level magical beasts. Furthermore, he had kidnapped the son of the Amethyst Winged Lion King, making it dangerous to linger.
After gathering his belongings, Mo Yu took one last deep look at the cave, which held significant meaning for him. Then, he turned and swiftly headed out.
Half a day later, he found himself in a sparser forest. Mo Yu relaxed a bit; he was now on the outskirts of the Magical Beast Mountain Range. If he continued forward, he might even encounter some mercenary groups hunting magical beasts.
As he passed through a small grove, the sky began to darken. Shaking his head helplessly, Mo Yu was about to find a place to rest when his eyes caught sight of a distant campfire flickering in the distance.
"Someone's there?"
Mo Yu paused, hesitated for a moment, and then started walking toward the source of the fire.
As he got closer, he could make out five figures sitting around the campfire—three men and two women, each armed with weapons. They all wore matching badges on their chests, indicating they were likely part of the same mercenary team.
Mo Yu shook his head, about to leave, when he heard a familiar name that made him freeze in his tracks.
"Xiao Yixian?"
Hearing the name in their conversation, Mo Yu furrowed his brows and restrained his aura. He quietly approached, intending to listen in on their conversation.
"Sigh, what's a powerful Da Dou Shi doing in a place like this? Shouldn't they be living it up in the empire's cities?" a young man's voice asked.
"I heard that Da Dou Shi is here to hunt down a young man named Mo Yu and that's why he came to Qing Shan Town," an older man replied.
"Yeah, I heard that too. Apparently, he offered a 100,000 gold coin bounty for any information on this Mo Yu kid. Even our captain was tempted."
"Our captain may have been tempted, but the Wolf Head Mercenary Group outright joined forces with that Da Dou Shi. I heard that Mo Yu crippled the Mu She's son and even killed their second-in-command, who was a nine-star Dou Zhe!"
"The Wolf Head Mercenary Group is despicable. Not only did they side with the Da Dou Shi, but they also dragged Xiao Yixian into it."
"Yeah, Mu She is ruthless. They say the Da Dou Shi heard that Xiao Yixian knew Mo Yu, so they captured her and have been interrogating her for days. Our captain even tried to plead for her, but he was severely injured by that Da Dou Shi. Others who have been helped by Xiao Yixian are too afraid to speak out."
Mo Yu's frown deepened as he pieced together the situation from their conversation. It seemed that Mu Yin hadn't given up after failing to kill him last time. He had returned to Qing Shan Town and captured Xiao Yixian to force out Mo Yu's whereabouts.
A surge of killing intent flared in Mo Yu's heart. If Mo Yin wanted to die so badly, Mo Yu would make sure he met his end in Qing Shan Town this time!
Sensing the sudden surge of murderous intent, the middle-aged man by the campfire suddenly turned his head, his eyes locking onto Mo Yu's hiding place as he shouted, "Who's there?"
Realizing he had been discovered, Mo Yu no longer concealed himself. He stepped forward calmly. With his current strength, he had no need to worry about whether these mercenaries were friend or foe.
As Mo Yu approached the campfire, the group of mercenaries finally saw his face, illuminated by the flickering flames.
And then they heard a name that both shocked and surprised them.
"I am... Mo Yu."
