Chapter 7 - Chapter 8: Retrieving the Earrings

Su Youyou was intimidated by Gu Mo's aura, breaking out in a cold sweat. The look in his eyes made her feel as if she were entangled with some demon.

"I, I borrowed the earrings from someone else, just for the photo, they're not mine," Su Youyou still refused to admit it, trying to lie her way out.

Gu Mo glanced at Su Heyi, who was clearly dissatisfied with Su Youyou's excuse for lying, and confronted her: "I just saw you wearing them. If you let me search, they must still be with you!"

"Why should I let you search? Who do you think you are!" Su Youyou shouted, only to be met with a piercing gaze.

Su Youyou clenched her fists, not daring to look at Gu Mo again.

"Whose earrings did you borrow? Call her now, and let's confront each other. Otherwise, I'm going to call the police," Gu Mo said nonchalantly, "You probably don't know that the earrings are worth about 50,000 yuan, which is enough to report to the police. Then I'll tell the police that you've illegally occupied property, and naturally, the police will investigate. Do you think you can deceive us and the police?"

Gu Mo curled the corners of his mouth slightly, his smile cold and cruel, making Su Youyou feel as if all the blood in her body was flowing backward, and she was about to lose the strength to stand, ready to collapse at any moment.

She had prepared a lot to say, but all those words disappeared at this moment, not daring to utter another word, as if speaking again would entangle her with a demon.

"What's the big deal? They're not even anything special. Su Heyi is my sister, can't I borrow them for a couple of days?" Su Youyou turned the tables, disdaining Su Heyi for being stingy, and after speaking, she turned back to get the earrings, threw them into Su Heyi's arms, and said, "Take them! From now on, they have nothing to do with me!"

After saying that, Su Youyou went back to her bedroom and didn't want to come out again.

Seeing the earrings recovered, Su Heyi didn't even appreciate how they looked before putting them back in the gift box, intending to return them to Gu Mo: "I found them, you take them, don't give them to me, I don't need them."

She didn't have much jewelry and didn't have the awareness to dress up. Moreover, most of the time she was wearing a mascot costume, and no one could see what she looked like.

But Gu Mo didn't reach for it. The sternness in his eyes gradually disappeared after Su Youyou left, replaced by a softness that even he didn't realize, staring at Su Heyi for a while before Gu Mo said: "This was a gift from Gu Yan. If you want to return it to him, tell him yourself."

"But..." Su Heyi was in a dilemma. She felt she shouldn't have agreed to Gu Mo, but she couldn't find any words to refute, frowning in confusion.

"Don't 'but' it, just listen. The next time you see Gu Yan, talk to him about it, okay?" Gu Mo's coaxing tone was unprecedented. The bodyguards standing at the door wished they could go deaf immediately. To them, this side of Gu Mo was much scarier than his usual sharp demeanor!

However, Su Heyi didn't know what the bodyguards were thinking. She was just flustered by Gu Mo's gentleness and obediently agreed: "Then I'll give it to him the next time I see him."

"Okay," Gu Mo gave a brief chuckle, quickly returning to his stern expression, "What are you eating tonight? Do you want to join me?"

Su Heyi looked at the clock on the wall. She could tell the time and saw that her uncle and aunt would be back soon, so she shook her head: "My uncle and aunt are coming back!"

"Alright, see you tomorrow," Gu Mo said before leaving, stroking Su Heyi's fair fingers again.

Su Heyi waved obediently, her pure and clean face making Gu Mo eager to hold her in his arms immediately – but he couldn't yet. He would continue to endure.

As soon as Gu Mo left, Su Youyou came out of her room and sneered, "Not bad, when did you climb up the high branch? I didn't expect you to look silly but actually be quite a schemer, with ambitions to rise above your station?"

Su Heyi ignored her and went straight back to her room without a word.

Su Youyou chased after her, her tone jealous: "Su Heyi, you're foolish. Do you think those rich people really like you? They're just looking at your face. Once they find out how silly you are, they'll definitely look down on you!"

Su Heyi vaguely understood what her cousin meant. Su Youyou's words made her somewhat unhappy, so she turned cold and closed the door directly, never giving Su Youyou a response.

"Su Heyi, you're going too far!" Su Youyou stamped her foot in anger but was somewhat helpless.

In the evening, while waiting for her parents to come back for dinner, Su Youyou exaggeratedly told them: "Mom and Dad, you have to discipline Su Heyi properly. I found out today that she's been hanging out with some shady people. Be careful she doesn't get corrupted!"

Su Heyi listened carefully and then refuted: "They're not bad people!"

"See! She admitted it. She really has met someone. Su Heyi, don't forget that you're just a fool. Be careful that you're being sold and still counting money for others!"

Su Heyi's uncle asked her, "Is what your sister saying true? Who have you been mixing with?"

"No!" Su Heyi shook her head but couldn't explain clearly, only able to say, "They are... guests from the amusement park."

Her aunt said, "Heyi, don't get corrupted! You're not normal to begin with. You believe everything people say. If you get corrupted, we won't take care of you anymore!"

Su Heyi lowered her head and ate quietly, not speaking again.

She intuitively felt that she couldn't discuss this issue with them, so she didn't want to talk much.

Seeing Su Heyi being criticized, Su Youyou was satisfied and mocked her in her heart.

...

This time, Su Heyi carefully placed the earrings in the box and carried them with her, worried about losing them, constantly checking if they were still with her.

She didn't know when Gu Yan would appear, but she thought it shouldn't be long.

As expected, the next day at work, Su Heyi saw Gu Yan again.

He was wearing sky-blue overalls, a white short-sleeved shirt, and carrying a small backpack, looking incredibly cute from afar.

The weather was very muggy today, and it seemed like it was going to rain, so there were not many people in the amusement park.

As Gu Yan approached, he trotted over and hugged Su Heyi's leg when he got close: "Dad said you were hurt yesterday. Where were you hurt? Let me see!"

Su Heyi then remembered the wound on her ear and squatted down to show Gu Yan: "It's just a little bit."

"Don't get hurt next time!" Gu Yan's big round eyes were full of worry.

"No, I won't..."

Su Heyi suddenly remembered and quickly took out the gift box from her pocket, handing it to Gu Yan: "Here are the earrings. Mr. Gu asked me to return them to you."

She remembered that people around her seemed to call Gu Mo that way, so she imitated it.

"You, don't you like them?" Gu Yan frowned.

"I do, but I can't accept them," Su Heyi said firmly.

After a slight movement in Gu Yan's eyes, he made an unexpected reaction – his big eyes filled with tears, and he cried pitifully with a sad expression!
