"Kara, I know who you are. I wasn't planning to reach out, but I have no choice now. I'm in Seaside City. Not only am I in danger, but the entire city might be destroyed."
Dani's voice was frantic over the phone, and before Kara could even respond, Dani hung up. Her tone was enough to hint at panic and a deep sense of urgency.
Kara turned instinctively towards Bruce and Jennifer, who were with her at Wayne Manor.
Jennifer shook her head. "I didn't tell her. Honestly, I feel bad for Dani, but fewer people knowing means better protection for you, Bruce, and Dani, don't you think?"
Bruce spread his hands. "Sure, but what happened? Also, aren't you a bit more at risk of exposure than I am?"
While slipping her phone away, Kara quickly recounted what Dani had said that afternoon. "Dani's team discovered an alien corpse, and they've been researching it. I'm not sure what happened, but something went wrong. I need to head there immediately."
The faces around her—Bruce, Jennifer, and even Alfred—registered surprise. Aliens? The existence of extraterrestrials had always been a topic of speculation, and despite many believing the vastness of space held other life, Earth's technology had yet to uncover definitive proof. But if this discovery brought some sort of deadly crisis, it was clear Dani needed help now.
Though Bruce and Jennifer were unaware of it, Kara had long known the existence of other life, including her own. She wasn't from Earth, after all, but from Krypton.
"Do you want my help?" Bruce offered, standing up in readiness.
Kara smiled wryly. "Can you fly?"
Bruce sat back down, shaking his head. Kara had shown off some of her super-abilities before, though not in full, usually masking them behind other skills and talents.
Wasting no time, Kara floated upwards and turned toward the nearest window, glancing at Jennifer.
"Are you going to fly out without a suit?" Jennifer called after her, concerned. "Aren't you worried about revealing your identity?"
Kara glanced back, gave a confident grin, and grabbed the edges of her shirt, tearing it open to reveal a bright red "S" emblazoned on a blue suit, complete with a red cape, skirt, and boots.
"How's this for a new look?" she teased, hovering mid-air as the Wayne family stared, speechless.
Jennifer looked at her with admiration, while Bruce seemed to size up the suit critically, mentally comparing it to his Batman gear. Unlike his dark and imposing armor, Kara's colors of blue and red exuded hope and assurance.
"See you soon!" Kara winked, then launched herself out the window and into the night sky. She identified the direction and headed straight toward Seaside City at top speed.
Flying through the cool evening air, Kara removed her glasses—a small accessory that helped shield her identity on Earth by subtly altering her appearance. She always exuded a hypnotic effect when wearing them, making her seem unremarkable to those around her. But without them, her natural beauty shone through, and anyone would notice her.
Concern for Dani pushed Kara into full speed, creating a sonic boom as she broke the sound barrier, her urgency carving a path through the night sky. At her maximum speed, she could circle the globe in about ten minutes. So, within half a minute, she had reached the bright lights of Seaside City.
Though based in DC's fictional world, the city bustled as any metropolis would. Known for its bustling West Coast port and Ferris Airlines headquarters, Seaside City thrived as a hub of activity. Tonight, however, the urgency of her flight left no time to admire the cityscape as she searched for Dani.
Using her Super Vision and Super Hearing, Kara scanned the city, hoping to detect Dani's voice. She didn't risk calling her; a ring at the wrong time could lead to disaster if Dani was in immediate danger. Besides, her suit hardly had pockets for phones.
Kara did wear knee-length shorts under her skirt, mainly for modesty when flying. She might be a superhero, but she was cautious of her appearance.
"Where is she?" Kara murmured, her voice tinged with frustration. She couldn't locate Dani, and the unknown situation gnawed at her.
Meanwhile, in a lab somewhere below, a researcher, Dr. Hector Hammond, was in chaos. He was the lead scientist examining the alien's body but had somehow been infected with a yellow, fear-inducing substance left behind by the creature.
Consumed by terror, he had lost control, his massive head thrumming with dangerous psionic power. The lab lay in shambles, and bodies lay scattered among the wreckage. Dani, another researcher, and Dr. Hammond's own father, Senator Hammond, were pinned against the walls, unable to move.
"Please, Kara," Dani whispered, barely able to move, her faith in Kara unwavering. "Hurry…"
Kara's face lit up as she finally picked up on Dani's voice, locking in on her location and surging forward.
In one smooth motion, Kara crashed through the laboratory's wall like it was tissue paper.
"Kara?" Dani exclaimed, her relief evident, but then her eyes widened. "Who…are you?"
Kara tilted her head, amused. "Didn't you say you knew who I was?"
