Chapter 60 - Chapter 59

In the end, Alfred drove Kara back in Bruce's private jet.

Kara had been speculating whether this plane was actually a disguised fighter jet used for Batman's missions. Or maybe not. After all, it was just an ordinary small private plane. After Wayne Manor burned down, when Bruce decided to ask for Kara's help, Alfred urgently arranged for this jet.

In fact, it was a helicopter, which made sense since it could take off and land on the estate without needing a runway.

Before Kara left, Alfred tried to convince her to take a bath first. After fighting all night, she couldn't help but feel a bit sweaty.

Kara sighed in exasperation. It seemed like Alfred was determined to make her the "lady of the Wayne family." But no, thanks, she wasn't interested.

Besides, she hadn't brought a swimsuit, and with the current state of Wayne Manor, the only available place to bathe would be the pool behind the Batcave, right?

"What are your intentions, Alfred?" Kara thought sarcastically.

This elderly man, though always respectful, was doing everything in his power to make sure his young master settled down and gave him an heir. Although Alfred was the butler, he had raised Bruce since childhood, treating him almost like his own son.

Alfred had no family of his own, no wife or children, so he had always seen Bruce as his legacy.

But Bruce wasn't Kara's type.

When Alfred finally dropped her off at her family's farm, Kara found her family still awake, worried about her well-being. They had been waiting for her to make sure she was okay.

After saying goodbye to Alfred, Kara entered the living room with her parents, Martha and Jonathan, and her younger brother, Clark. There, she found them watching the news on TV.

The situation in Gotham had been so chaotic that the news had been covering the incident for hours. As usual, the reporters in Gotham didn't dare get too close to the scene of the chaos, reporting only from a safe distance.

To Kara's surprise, her image appeared on the screen.

The news speculated: "A new heroine in Gotham? What's her relationship with Batman?"

Her family watched Kara in silence, waiting for an explanation.

Although Kara didn't want to admit it, she had already revealed that she was going to help Batman, so she just shrugged. "Yeah, that's me."

She confessed the truth to them. After all, her biggest secret—being Kryptonian—was already known, and this was minor in comparison.

Yet, her family continued to stare at her with suspicion.

Kara was puzzled. "Why are you looking at me like that?" She thought they were worried about her exposing her true strength and added, "Don't worry, I didn't show off anything too unbelievable."

"Kara, who is this Batman?" Martha asked, more curious about Bruce's identity than anything else.

"He's... well, he's..."

"Is he your boyfriend?" Jonathan interrupted, dropping a bombshell.

Kara almost choked on her own breath. "What?"

Martha and Jonathan were looking at her with hopeful eyes, even Clark seemed to think the same.

So that's what they were expecting…

"No!" Kara vehemently denied, realizing immediately why Bruce always looked so resigned when Alfred pressured him about marriage. "When the older generation starts pushing for marriage, it's terrifying."

Frustrated, Kara ran out to the yard and pulled out her phone to call Perry White, her boss at the Daily Planet.

Despite having hung up on Perry about ten times earlier, he answered her call immediately. "What's up? Already tired of being home? Ready to come back to work tomorrow?" Perry joked, yawning.

"Not a chance. I haven't rested enough yet, and you can't take back your promise," Kara grumbled.

"By the way, I've got some info on Bruce Wayne for you," she continued, her tone full of mischief. "You can report tomorrow that the billionaire, while drunk, burned down his own mansion."

Perry burst out laughing. "Are you serious?"

"Yep, and make sure my name's on the article. If not, he'll deny everything," Kara added.

Even though she was poking fun at Bruce, she knew it was better this way. Bruce would much rather have this story in the news than the one about Ra's al Ghul and the League of Shadows.

The next day, Gotham returned to some semblance of normalcy. With the full support of Wayne Enterprises, the city's water supply was purified, and the toxic gas threat was slowly neutralized. The city survived with minimal damage compared to what could have been a total disaster.

Bruce kept his promise to let Kara interview him, although all he did was send her a couple of photos. The Batman suit he had promised to lend her had seemingly disappeared, leaving Kara silently cursing. If she had known, she would have taken the suit home herself.

Despite this, Perry was thrilled with the photos, much to Kara's surprise.

Later, when Commissioner Gordon activated the Bat-Signal, calling for Batman, Bruce thought that Gotham was finally at peace and he could rest. But Gordon handed him a playing card, announcing the arrival of the Joker in the city.
