Third POV
Keegan
Grandfather Oliver dropped papers in front of Keegan.
He plonked them with so much force that they would've landed in a thud if they were heavy. Keegan blinked rapidly, his ears ringing.
"You don't knock?" He raised his eyebrows.
"I don't have time for that. Read the documents." Grandfather pointed at the papers.
"Where is granny?" Keegan asked.
"She is drinking tea with Mrs Miles."
He read the papers five times over. His grandfather waited for him patiently.
He ended up reading for the sixth time to avoid looking up at his grandfather.
His grandmother walked in, and Keegan walked to her for a hug.
He went back to his seat, and stared at the hard copy in front of him. Then, he rubbed his eyes.
"There is no need." Grandfather Oliver sat on the other side of his desk, with granny Elizabeth next to him.
"The results are in black and white. You have a son!"
Keegan turned his attention to his granny. She shrugged.
"Do you hate us that much?" Grandfather stood from the leather seat of the office in the top floor and looked out through the glass wall.
"What are you talking about?" Keegan remained glued to his seat, his gaze moving as his grandfather moved.
"You hate us that much for you not to tell us that you have a son?" He said in a hoarse voice.
"A son? Me?" Keegan was trying to comprehend the words but all that didn't make sense. It had to be a prank. Someone must have set this up, as a joke. He would find that person!
"The DNA results will never lie, don't think about denying it." He turned and paced to the table.
"I had to ask Matthew to search everywhere, incase there were other children, but there were none."
"How do I have a son that I don't know of?" His forehead creased. He had always been careful.
"Because you are a womanizer!" Grandfather accused.
"I have told you to settle, to have children and..."
"To ensure that our legacy lives on." Keegan recited the words that he had heard a thousand times. Imitating his grandfather.
His grandfather glared at him, and his granny suppressed a smile.
"There is nothing I say that you take seriously." He closed his eyes, and pinched the bridge of his nose, pacing around the room.
"What do you want me to do?" Keegan sighed.
"To meet this woman, apologize to her, and tell her that you will be there for her and for your son."
"For goodness' sake! I don't have a son."
He stood from behind the desk, and observed the cars passing by on the ground. His grandfather went over to stand next to him.
"Why are you determined to make me meet this woman? Is she of high class?"
Grandfather shook his head.
"Really?" Keegan raised his eyebrows.
"I'm desperate, son." He exhaled.
His grandparents had been persuading him to meet someone. His grandfather was hell-bent on ensuring that it was a rich woman. He felt that Keegan's older brother had been tricked by a middle-class woman. He never wanted history to repeat itself, but at that moment, he felt that he didn't have a choice. He would accept any woman who would have children with Keegan.
"What about Anais?" Keegan challenged with a smirk.
"I know how you feel about her. You probably don't think that we notice these things."
Keegan barged out of the office and left his grandparents.
He had heard his grandfather's lamentations for a long time. They replayed themselves in his mind all the time.
No wonder I keep myself so busy with work, he thought.
Keegan went back to the office after texting Matthew.
"You are the only one who can take care of my great-grandchildren. You will never let them go hungry like their father intends." His grandfather said as soon as he opened the door.
"I am going to leave my business to my niece and nephew. Isn't that enough for them?"
Grandfather took a deep breath.
"Lizzy, please stop me before I do something drastic." Grandfather said dramatically.
"So, do you think that my brother would just let me take over?" Keegan asked.
"He wouldn't have a choice. The problem is that you don't have children of your own."
He understood what his grandfather meant. The presence of Keegan's children would secure the family's business more.
"My nephew and niece are going to be okay." He insisted.
"What about Mariëtte? The evil woman would fail to preserve our legacy. We worked hard to get where we are. We can't let the Smiths take over our business."
Perseus, Keegan's brother married Mariëtte Smith in community of property, without a prenup. What kind of an idiot did that?
Perseus was the heir, and he didn't care much about his own children. In fact, he wanted to spite their mother. He would inherit everything from their grandfather, and leave it to his wife, who wanted nothing to do with her stepchildren.
Keegan's phone rang. His grandfather was never going to let this go. So, he decided to put an end to this once and for all. He knew he didn't have a son.
"Talk to me Matthew," he said as he brought the phone close to his ear.
"Why are you talking to my PI?" Grandfather whispered.
Keegan walked out of the office as he listened to Matthew.
"The person that I have been investigating underwent an invitro at More Health facility," said the voice on the other end of the line.
His eyes widened in realization. Out of all the sperm, she chose his! Granted, he was a handsome baby, anybody would've wanted their baby to look like him.
He somehow forgot that he was once a sperm donor. He was supposed to have retrieved his sperm cells. How reckless!
He went back in to explain to his grandparents.
"How many other children do you have scattered all over the world?" Grandfather asked.
"I really have a son?" He shook his head in disbelief.
If this had happened under different circumstances, he would've been overjoyed. If this was his and Emberly's child when they were married, he would be celebrating.
"Answer the question." Grandfather Oliver glared at him.
"None. Just one."
"Grandfather, how did you do this?" He asked.
"How did you become a sperm donor?" Grandfather deflected.
"It was when I was in college. I was rebelling against dad. Then he blocked all my credit cards. I needed money."
"And now you are rebelling against me," he put his hands up.
He wondered if the woman chose him on purpose. Then she knew that she would use her son one day.
He needed to be careful, grandfather was too desperate to make wise decisions.
